Came in on New Years Day and both employees were sitting up front chatting instead of cleaning the very obviously neglected rodent cages. One of the skinny pigs is visually ill and has an infection in both eyes. So disappointing to see in one of their newer stores. The employees need to be retrained. Those cages haven't been cleaned in at least a day. That is what neglect is in every sense of the word. Do better.

The dog baths are awesome! I don't think 2 towels are enough, and that's probably why the floors are always drenched? Minus that they have everything you need.

They have a wide array of delicious cat food and have numerous other products for animals at reasonable prices. The items in the store are well organized, and the environment is clean. Bonus star: they are willing to price match any prices from any competitors.

Animal neglect is clear to see EVERY single time I stop in here. Cages and enclosures are consistently left filthy. The bearded dragon enclosure was filled with several days worth of excrement. It had not even been surface cleaned in several days, closer to a week for sure. I’ve had ferrets for years so I know they can be messy… but the ferrets here are simply unkempt. I also have no idea what the ferrets are being fed because it looks the same as the rodent pellets they feed guinea pigs? Ferrets are carnivores so Im sure they’ve got that wrong too… ugh. I feel sorry for these animals and they deserve better. At least chow hound on northland drive takes good care of their animals. I actually got one of my ferrets from there because of how healthy she was. Do better.

We just recently moved and we LOVE this Chow Hound. They almost ALWAYS have kittens and actually let us in to love on them. The staff is always kind, courteous, and knowledgeable. We also love looking for their store kitten and giving it some loving, too!

I was so pleased to find "Taste of the Wild" dog food here. My usual supplier, "Family Farm," was out of wild boar variety that my dogs like 🐗I hope you start to carry Victor (TM) grain free with glucosamine and condriotin.

All the animals there looked like they weren’t taken care of very well. Many of them were moving around in their own excrement. Good thing the two cashiers were just chatting about makeup while they could be taking care of these helpless animals.

I had returned a bag of dog food that had a hole in it , but the manager at this location was hesitant to even let me even exchange it and when she finally agreed to let me exchange it , she brought me out an identical bag but come to find out it was expired and had tape on it where there was a huge cut in the top of the bag .

The staff are always so very helpful and kind. They remembered my dog Finnegan. He doesn't freak out anymore when he needs to get his nails trimmed. I also feel very comfortable giving him a bath there, knowing that it's been cleaned.

When they find pet food bags with holes, they teach their stockers to put a clear piece of tape over the hole and sell the bag as-is, for full price. A store manager and two separate employees that had worked at separate stores confirmed this. This is dangerous. Ask any vet.I returned a sliced/taped bag only to receive a replacement that I later found out also had a hole and was taped. When I returned for the second bag, having already spoken with the manager and having received assurances the problem would be corrected, I found THE ORIGINAL BAG HAD BEEN RETURNED TO THE SHELF. Not only did the manager lie to his customer, he knowingly put an unsafe bag of food back on the shelf after having been alerted to the problem.I spoke with employees of the store and two separate employees confirmed that stockers at all Chow Hound stores are taught to tape compromised bags.Chow Hound is aware of their unsafe practices and does not care about the safety of your pets. I spoke with a few of the food manufacturers and they agree that this practice is really dangerous. It can and and will lead to sick animals due to contamination. The manufacturers will be following up with Chow Hound, but in the meantime, please do not buy from them.

I was caring for a large elderly dog for a friend. He was having issues with his claws and toe pads. As an inexperienced dog person, I walked in a little desperate. Gigi immediately came to my aid by listening carefully, recommending products and explaining how to use them. Her knowledge and excellent customer service were a Godsend that day and the dog is doing much better. Well stocked store, great employee. Thank you.

Lauren O just worked enough acts of mercy to gain heaven seven times! I am OLD and was trying to navigate the online ordering and club sites. The results were frustrating and I did ponder whether I had been kidnapped and warped to another planet. Like a rescuing angel, Lauren decrypted my mess, and miraculously generated a flawless order to be expedited the next day to my home. Picture both our minds being a combination of Wiley Coyote experiencing his worst and the Tasmanian Devil of Warner Brothers whirling in his most frenzied dervish. Never once did Lauren cower at the challenge: she was calm, asked the right questions, used critical and analytic thinking, and directed me patiently through my difficulties (which consumed over an hour). What a woman, hear her roar! Success was sweet, but never as sweet as Lauren O of Knapp’s Corner Chow Hound 💕

Messed up my online order (extremely similar bag of my brand of dog food. I had to look twice.) and then fixed it with their last bag of what I needed, literally in seconds, as I looked like a "Karen" going off to find it myself. And they were so nice about it!

Super friendly staff! We came in for the pet wash and it was super clean and ready for us to use. The tub was awesome and didn't hurt my back at all. The shampoo and conditioner was all lined up with instructions. Super simple! They even had ear cleaners, q-tips, and cotton balls to help with the dryer. God knows my pup needed those!! As the dryer was her mortal enemy, I couldn't get her 100% but definitely dry enough to let the fan back home finish the job! Very impressed with the whole experience, from the friendly people at the door to the amazing cashiers to check us out when we had finished. Would definitely to back again! Thanks!!!!

I go here quite often for my pet supplies. I get my dog's food here since it's one of the only places I can find it. They always have fat, alive Super worms for my Bearded Dragon. I like their points system, and their services offered there!

Great store, helpful employees. Always have what I am looking for with my cat. Only downsize is the parking. The workout people next door always take the spots by the door. A bit of a walk to and from the car carrying bags of food and treats.

The store on the East Beltline in Knapp Corner has horrible 😫 customer service. I walked around the cat area and No one asked if I needed help. The girls were more worried about some turtle that was in the store!? I have seen on previous occasions that they do not rotate their products properly in the store. I have seen expired pet treats. I have worked in customer service for years. I think I will either take my money to the store on Cascade Road where you are appreciated or Pet Supplies Plus!!Also if I could have given this location a zero stars I would have.

This is for corporate. I've been giving my large dog a bath at the Grand Haven Chowhound for 13 years and have always been pleased with my experience until today. (10/18/2021). Being that I have a larger dog I need a wash bay with a ramp and bay number one was the only one that had a working ramp but the blow dryer didn't work in # 1so we had to use #2 to get dry. The spray wouldn't shut off and in both bays the hooks for the sprayers were ripped off the walls. After mentioning my unhappiness with the conditions I was told that corporate was going to give a major upgrade soon and the employees were told not to spend any money making the repairs and that they have been told for about 2 years that their upgrade would be soon. Being that I am a loyal customer I will continue to wash my dog there but the employees say they are ashamed of the condition of their wash bays.

Great place to buy healthy food n grain free snacks for dogs. $12.99 to wash n groom your pet. (Even if you don't wash or clean your dog, or use any of their products, and just groom him/her, and even clean up after yourself. Leaving them a clean room. They'll still charge you $12.99.) Which I think sucks. But whatever. I have 2 Huskies. And other than being ripped off. I like going there, for toys n treats.

The place is great, got everything for ur pets! And then some!I had adopted a kitten there yesterday. Not a bad prosess, and kitten is great and cute! The only thing is....they did not offer a cardboard kitten carrier! If u dident have a actual cat carrier then you were not able to take the kitten or cat you adopted!So i had to buy one, not a problem just dident account for buying it.Thanks again for your help and the new kitten.

This is my favorite pet store. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. I love to bring my dog to help socialize him, and they carry his favorite chew sticks. They also have a loyalty program, so every so many bags of food are free!

I had gone to Meijer for waste bags they were out so I googled pet stores in the area and was thrilled to find Chow Hound right on the opposite corner of Knapp and East Beltline. I found the waste bags and much more I will continue to buy my waste bags thanks Chow Hound!
