Camping … but for those who need to feel special and pay an extra $30 for an overpriced, lack of variety stock. The salespeople are like vultures and completely lack customer service skills. Throughout our thirty-minute walk-around we were approached by five salespeople asking us if we wanted to pay $30 to join their exclusive membership club, which gets you what I have no idea. I understand them asking us this as it is required to shop there, but for the first time being in the store, we just wanted to look around first. They were very pushy and rude when we nicely said we’d think about it each time. Even if we had been thinking about it, the pushiness and rudeness of the staff combined with the uppity, snobby atmosphere and prices to match left us with a bad taste in our mouths- so we went over to Dick’s Sporting Goods and Bass Pro Shops where you can find three times as much variety and the prices being half of what they are at REI. This store is a gross misrepresentation of what camping really is, but what else could you expect from Ann Arbor?

I was so glad to give away our road bikes 9 years ago and buy 2 (Ghost) mountain bikes to replace them.One disappointment is the battery powered, electronic odometer.We had 40 year old mechanical odometers on our road bikes. While they may not be as precise as the battery powered ones, they are far more accurate.2 years ago, the batteries needed replacing. Fortunately, I noticed it right away and replaced batteries in both bikes before missing out on logging too many miles. But, since then the battery powered electronic gizmo works only sometimes--might miss an entire five mile stretch before recording milage again.

Something on my REI city bike wasn’t working. David in the bike shop fixed it right up. He knows his stuff and was really helpful and talked me through what was going on and how to maintain the bike.

Love this store. Great selection of top notch quality outdoor gear. I always go in for one item, expecting to be in and out, but walk out an hour later with multiple new camping 'toys'. The staff is always super helpful, knowledgeable about the store products, and won't hesitate to tell you where to go to get a better deal, if it isn't found in their store.

REI has an excellent selection of outdoors equipment and clothes. I like shopping in person or going online first, then trying things out in the store. A great thing about REI has always been the staff. They are generally very knowledgeable and very helpful.

Clean fantastic store. Gender neutral restrooms. Friendly, funny staff. Stuff is expensive here ($80 hoodie, for example) but they have a clearance rack.

Everytime, without fail, when I go there, they do not have in-house the items I need and always tell me to order online. I end up lingering and enjoy seeing the current items they carry. But, I leave frustrated again that I have to go online. 😔

Honestly who doesn’t love rei.Yesterday I utilized the bike shop for the first time and was blown away. Being newish to Michigan, I was very nervous to bring my triathlon bike in for service, after years of utilizing a specific endurance bike shop in Colorado that specialized in triathlon. Because triathlon bikes are not the type of bike REI sells, I just assumed it might be an issue.The associate David was incredibly kind and patient as I tried to explain what hiccups I was experiencing with my bike. He walked through a few things with me so he could best understand my concerns, instead of just checking the bike in and saying he’d call when ready. He also offered varying services that he thought would be better than what I asked for given my bike is new, but did so in a way that was informative and not just pushing a higher service bill.I shop rei for all my rock and ice climbing needs, and I’m stoked to be able to use them for my other sports as well.

This store is Amazing. How I waited so long to check it out is beyond me.. in the two visits I’ve had, both of the staff I interacted with were incredibly helpful and positive people. Bob in the shoe department helped me pick an excellent pair of hiking boots for Alaska, and made sure to mention I break them in before the trip. Great thinking. Emil was beyond helpful in providing a head to toe recommendation for the weather and climate I’d encounter on my trip and ways to layer for it. What a cool store! Will be back

Bike shop service is incredible. Customer service is fantastic– the employee (I think his name is David) walks you through everything before you make a decision. Turnaround time is fast and everything is always very well done. Highly recommend, especially if you are a co-op member

They have a great return policy! I bought a bathing suit online, it didn't fit right but I was too lazy to return it lol. Fast forward 4 months it finally sunk in how it was wasteful to keep something I'll never wear, and I was able to still return it for a full refund (unworn with tags).

Staff are very helpful and friendly. Have never had a problem returning or exchanging something I have purchased online or in store. Good quality goods and decent clearance prices. I like to purchase when I am emailed a discount code but would pay if I didn’t because of the excellent customer service.

Love trying on new gear here. When I needed a new backpack suitcase, staff helped me try on different ones to find one most comfortable for my petite frame. They found me a bag that wasn’t even on my list, and was the cheapest! I come here for all my sporting needs and for clothes.

This is my home base REI and I like it. I’m a co-op member and appreciate the benefits for the nominal membership fee. It has repaid itself numerous times in the last two years.I enjoy tent camping an average of 45-60 days a year in National Forests around the country and appreciate the product knowledge and opinions of experienced members of their staff when I see them on the floor. You can read all the reviews you want to online, but there’s no substitute to having a real conversation with a specialist who has used the equipment when making a choice on a critical piece of gear. I’ve had to returned a couple items when they didn’t work out and this was never a problem.On my last two visits I did notice that the men’s bathroom was out of paper and the towel dispenser door appeared to be broken, hanging down off the wall like a sad puppy. Just a nit, but for such a gorgeous store, quite surprising. I’m sure they’ll take care of the problem.You will like this store, may connect with a member of the staff on the floor you’ll go to time and time again for advice. This is priceless for the avid outdoors person.

They were absolutely swamped this past weekend due to shopping for the holidays and Black Friday sales but the staff was still so patient and kind. Had questions in regards to a few items and they helped me out a ton. Really enjoyed my time there and will be definitely be a repeat customer at this location.

I was always a little skeptical about this store. Their clothing and some of the gear is priced high but is basically on par for those brands elsewhere. Getting back to more outdoor focused recreation like hiking and biking made me reconsider and join as a member. I would stop in here and there or order from their website. Then, I finally ordered a new mountain bike, unfortunately not through REI due to lack of inventory. I popped in for some new MTB pedals and noticed their menu of bike services they offer. I was very impressed with the member pricing as well as the turnaround time when I inquired about going fully tubeless. Within the last couple weeks, I have been back multiple times to get my bike fully dialed in and each bike shop employee has been beyond excellent each time. I feel fully taken care at each interaction as they take a quick look at the issue, brainstorm potential fixes, and then promptly get me on my way but not before explaining what they did. Amazing customer service, especially in the bike shop.

REI bike shop is the best in Ann Arbor in my opinion! They do great work, are super knowledgable, and have quick turnarounds! David in the bike department is so kind, patient, thorough, knowledgable and accommodating. Pat was great too! Ordered Xmas gifts online from here. Got what I ordered in mail only to find out what I got was marked up almost double. On top of that items I ordered were not what I was expecting and super thin mesh material. Return thru the mail wasn’t horrible only took 3 wks to process.

Customer experience should be seamless. Corporate if your reading this I will be happy to travel to your stores as a customer experience specialist! Great store and very helpful staff only complaint is the clothes clearance rack in the back was to high for me and other customers to reach. I had to go and find a staff member to help every time I wanted to look at something. Also, customers should be able to know the price of an item instead of having to ask. I had to ask a few times how much something cost because there was no price on it. And when checking out, the credit card terminal does not show how much items ring up so it’s a guessing game til the store clerk tells you the final total. Probably not a big deal if you have one or two items but I had a mix of regular price and clearance items. Customer experience helps drive the competitive advantage and I know you guys can do better. I’m very happy the store was open and your support for Black Live Matter Movement. Thanks guys!
