During the holiday season of 2022, I received horrible news that my best friend of 10 years had a mast cell tumor behind his eye. I can proudly say because of the great team here that he is cancer free!It took me 3 veterinarians to find someone I was comfortable with. Never once did i feel as though this was transactional. Everything was about my dogs health care. Moreover, I was very pleased with the pricing through the process. We utilized the funds available to best treat his needs without doing more or less than needed.I was very nervous, as this was my first surgery with any animal I had. I can not express how great the whole process was made through every staff member here. I must have called 20 times, and I was never let down with their comfort and expertise.Dr. Ulfelder is a highly skilled and an overall amazing surgeon. Being that the tumor was behind his eye, it was in a very sensitive spot to remove. She was able to get all of the tumor removed and not affect his blinking whatsoever!Thank you so much to her, especially, and thanks again to the staff.

The new exotics department at this practice is AMAZING. Dr. Berg and her techs worked hard to save my guinea pig Leo’s life. They are so communicative, sent twice daily updates including photos during his stay, thoroughly answered any questions I had, and provided very in-depth explanation of his condition. This team will always be my first choice for my exotic pets. Leonardo says thank you <3

Fantastic zoo/exotics medicine at Cape Cod Veterinary Specialists! Those of us who have exotic animals know that they deserve the highest standard of medical care - the same that we strive to provide to our cats and dogs. Unfortunately, finding a veterinary team with the expertise to handle the complexities of our tiny friends can be difficult. The South Shore is beyond fortunate to have Dr. Kyra Berg and her team of veterinary technicians at Cape Cod Veterinary Specialists in South Dennis and Buzzards Bay available to fill this need. Two of my female guinea pigs recently required diagnostics and surgery to address symptoms related to reproductive disease. Anesthesia and surgery for this species carries higher risks than in many other animals, but you would not know this from how swiftly my girls recovered and healed from their spays and mass removal. The incision sites were small, beautifully closed, and hardly visible throughout the healing process. Their pain was taken seriously and was managed through a multimodal approach both in hospital and at home. Communication with all staff was prompt and professional.Dr. Berg and team are skilled, compassionate, and dedicated to their patients. The girls were hospitalized overnight, and I felt that I left them in the hands of people who love them as I do. Just a wonderful crew from reception, to techs (thank you Lorelei and Katie!), to doctors. I cannot thank them enough!

I can not speak more highly of Dr Berg and the rest of the Zoo Exotics team at Cape Code Veterinary Specialists. When my regular vet Dr Lord @Oceanside Animal Hospital (also amazing) found abnormalities on my hedgehogs X-rays she referred me to Dr Berg and CCVS and I am so glad she did. The exotics team not only expedited our appointments due to the urgency but were incredibly kind hearted, patient, honest and treated him like their own beloved pet. This included recognizing when recovery from surgery was being hindered by stress and that he should go home early with special instructions. Veterinary care is expensive and my hedgie's care was not cheap but it could have been a lot worse both in cost and results. Everyone from reception, to radiology, to Dr Berg herself were incredible and it was worth every penny to know they were taking the best possible care of my boy and although we aren't out of the tunnel yet, we can see the light and can't be more thankful to CCVS.

My name is Kendal, I was an employee at this hospital before moving out of state. Every staff member is amazing. I miss working here! The team felt like a second family, even being the quiet one of the bunch. Anyways, I recently learned my family cat, who my Mother looks after in this area, is missing. I called them to see if anyone has brought her in, and I spoke with a lovely lady (probably going to misspell her name) Lorelei, who answered my phone call almost immediately. She was so kind and caring, and took down all of my information and said she would be in touch if she hears of any news. I wanted to write this review to let everyone know how wonderful this hospital is. The phone call just made me miss my Dennis team so much. I hope you all are doing amazing. Sendings hugs to all my friends who still work here. Xo, Kendal :)

Saturday afternoon, during a 3 day weekend, we had an unexpected, serious, incident with our 4 yo CordiBoi. He had a large gash under his armpit, of unexplained origin. His skin was cut down to the muscle, with the silver membrane showing. What a shock! Chaos and confusion and concern took over. What do I do? How did this happen? Do I wait til Tuesday?(obviously no, was the only clear answer) from.the moment I called, calm took over. The receptionist took all necessary info and got us right in. The vet tech was also very calm and thorough. Dr Glauberg was amazing. He asked all pertinate information and clearly explained every thing that needed to be done. From anesthesia to surgery to wound care. I felt relived our boy would be in good care. My baby boy is home tonight where ge should be, like it never even happened. Maybe the worry is part of being a pet parent. I would like to sincerely thank the team , for providing complete, expertise, and thourough care to our innocent, dependant, family member, who is well on the mend. Thank you everyone for taking care of the pet parents too!

Amazing, kind, and caring staff. I brought my cat in here last night and the staff immediately gave him the attention he needed. They were very attentive and super nice throughout the entire process. When saying our goodbyes they let us take our time and went beyond my expectations with things the memorialize him. Staff made it so he was extraordinarily comfortable in his last moments. They turned an awful situation into a memory I’ll never forget. I greatly appreciate them all for that!

On our first day of vacation in Chatham our dog accidentally swallowed a naproxen pill. I immediately called cape cod vet specialists in a panic.. they advised me to call animal poison first and then bring her immediately to their hospital where I was greeted and Lina was taken immediately for assessment. At first she was ok but day 2 she began having GI bleeding that’s expected with this. She stayed 4 days in their care where they took the best care of her and called me with updates. I was informed of every step of her care and when I visited she had her little iv port attached but was otherwise so happy and in good spirits. This facility truly cares deeply for their animals and takes every precaution to save the animal and they’re so friendly and hospitable!!! So thankful we brought our Lina home safe and slowly back to good health🙏

Dr Emily Ulfelder is the most heartfelt and compassionate Veterinarian I’ve ever had the privilege to meet. I’ve had many dogs in my lifetime with a few good Veterinarians. She surpasses all. Dealing with an older dog with an age related illness is heartbreaking for most of us. I feel beyond fortunate and blessed to have her expertise, warmth and genuine understanding at such a difficult time.

We were at our summer camp when our 12 week old puppy started vomiting. At first she seemed ok but over the course of the day she got dehydrated, lethargic, and shaky. We brought he in and they were so incredibly kind. They took such good care of her and she is back home with us and on the mend thanks to their wonderful staff!

Really very grateful for CCVS; when my dog woke up this morning, he was very lethargic and for the first time in his whole life, he didn't wag his tail; it just hung there. It was very alarming and I thought up all sorts of nightmares.CCVS answered the phone immediately on the weekend, said I could bring him in immediately, and everyone there from the receptionist to the nurses and doctors were unbelievably kind.Ultimately, it wasn't an emergency - he had "swimmer's tail", essentially a pulled muscle from too much wagging! The doctor I saw suspected this immediately on seeing him but did due diligence and checked for a lot of other possible conditions before confirming her initial impression. When I later read more about swimmer's tail, all the literature said the doctor should do exactly what she did, which was comforting (and impressive!). I felt very relieved and confident when I left. The price also felt very reasonable for same-day, immediate urgent care with a team this talented. Thanks so much - I feel much better and I know my dog will soon too!

The doctor was knowledgeable, but I have a 13 year old dog that had aspirated pneumonia. He was sent home. No meds for pain. He was uncomfortable and didn't move. A second trip to them for meds. Also, He has heart disease and high bp and is on meds. Also, the receptionist was professional, yet not approachable. My vet is waiting for the x-rays. The receptionist, C said "she has payroll to do, people called out. Clerical will come last." My vet is WAITING for the x-rays in order to triage. She's a gem.

When my dog couldn’t stop vomiting and multiple doctors couldn’t figure out why she couldn’t stop, Dr. Carvalho at CCVS did not stop until she figured out what was going on with my dog. She got me a day of appointment with a neurologist, did multiple tests and medication trials until finding the right one. She is the best doctor I have ever gone to. All of the staff have been incredibly kind and caring and communicative while we kept coming back to the ER over a 3 week period to get her better. I’m so grateful for the amazing communication and care given to my pup. It was expensive but I knew she was being taken care of while she was there, and I appreciate the staff giving the estimates up front all the time before doing anything. Thank you so much for helping Winnie get back to her normal self!!

I honestly believe that the staff here love animals, but I'm sorry to say the positives ended there on our visit. Our dog needed emergency care, we called ahead and were told a visit would be 1-3 hours. We drove there and were told it would be 5-7 hours. Those wait times didn't bother me, what bothered me was how we were spoken to - you are treated as less than human and spoken to with the type of "HR speak" that is so uncompassionate it has no place in an emergency setting. The staff kept repeating themselves, interrupting, and wouldn't let us ask even simple questions until I finally had to ask them to "speak to us like we're humans". Eventually we went into a room for our dog to have her vitals taken. The front staff came in to have us sign paperwork and apologized for how the previous conversation went - that turned out to be a non-apology that went on for over three minutes without me being able to ask a single question. When I did get to ask if we'd be charged then, or once we would get to see the vet, I was interrupted once again. We handed them back the clipboard and walked out.I appreciate anyone who cares enough about animals to have an emergency clinic. I appreciate that short-staffing can cause long delays. What I find unacceptable was how the staff here lacked any compassion, refused to answer questions about even basic appointment matters, and interrupted us repeatedly to the point that we felt out dog would not get the care she deserved. If you can't be in a stressful environment and still maintain compassion, you should not be working in an emergency medical field. To anyone looking to come here, save yourself the stress and uncertainty, drive to the emergency clinic in Plymouth instead. It was a night and day difference for us.

It always happens on a Sunday! Grateful they were there. Despite being busy the vet took as much time as I needed to explain and answer any questions. Costs were explained up front and it was worth any amount to have my girl taken care of. Thank you!

This vet refused to give a simple test (lyme disease) for a dear friend of mines dog. They either offered a $5000 kidney flush or dismissal of the pet. He took him somewhere else the next day expecting to put his furbaby to rest but they completed the simple test (which tested positive) and are able to treat the dog.How can a practice not willingly administer a simple test but rather suggest an insane prodecure first without one?

I have been to Cape Cod Veterinary Specialists in Dennis a few times for various emergencies and each time my dog and I have been treated respectfully, kindly, and professionally. Most recently, on a Sunday morning, we brought in our 14 year old dog, who was obviously desperately ill. In spite of being busy with other emergency cases, they rushed her in and got her diagnosed and stabilized, explained the situation to us (sadly, she had little chance of survival), took the time to confer by phone with our regular vet, and treated all of us gently and kindly as we came to terms with the situation and helped her to the peaceful end in she deserved, in the comfort of our arms. Kudos to Dr. Lee and all the staff, whose obvious love of animals and compassion for us made a truly awful day a little bit more bearable.

I was referred here by my vet for some tests on my 4 year old kitty Loon, I’ve never really had a bad experience at any vet in over 30 years, today was no different. The staff here was absolutely phenomenal, caring, compassionate and thorough. Loon is in good health, I am relieved and in awe of this facility. THANK YOU SO MUCH for your kindness and compassion.

I just called this place and like some other reviews wrote, they gave me the HR answer.... "we obviously can't know until we see her, it will also be a 1-3 hour wait, and it will cost $250 flat rate." I hung up. I called VEG Boston. They will consult with a vet and tell you if you need to bring your dog in or not on the phone. If you are wondering if your dog needs to see the vet or not, I recommend calling VEG Boston before bringing your pet to this practice. It feels like they don’t care about your pet and just want you to pay a fee before even telling you if you should be there or not. There's likely a 1-3 hour wait because they don't save anyone their time or money and just tell everyone to bring in their pet. A place I'd never bring my pet even if it were an emergency at this point.

Yall are awesome. My cat was acting strange and I couldn't figure out why so I brought him here and they discovered he had a eaten something and it was stuck inside him. They talked with me through all the options and how they could help me in anyway. It was a super rough night for my baby and I and they helped find the problem, start the next step and were super compassionate. I can't thank you enough, you guys saved my kitty. Zoot had surgery last night at the buzzards bay location and is already home and recovering with me. Know your pets are in good hands with the people here❤️

I can't say enough about them! I've had to go the Dennis location twice for emergency issues with 2 different dogs. Each time I was greeted with friendly caring staff that was more than helpful throughout the process. The doctors are experienced, thorough and kind. They patiently explained their diagnose and answered all my questions. They even followed up with a call the next day! Although the initial cost may seem high, they are well worth it and any additional medications of tests are reasonable. Their care and assessments were spot on and they are thoughtful with dispensing medications. I highly recommended them.

The staff was incredibly kind & compassionate when I brought in my 9 year old German shepherd Ava who had become suddenly life threateningly ill. I was struggling a lot with the decision to put her to sleep. I was offered additional testing to give me piece of mind, which made all the difference to me.They gave me all the time I needed alone with her. They set her up very nicely with blankets & made her comfortable. I made the decision to bring my dog home for burial. She was sent home with us in a nice white box, they even wrote her name with a heart next to it.I truly appreciate the compassion we were shown during a heartbreaking time. We also received a condolences card in the mail which was so thoughtful.

My dog was very ill with a stomach bug. With Covid, many veterinary practices take a few hours to even see a patient. Although they were busy, the wait was minimal. Josh, who came to the car both times was so kind and compassionate. The Vet called with an analysis and recommendations. She gave me choices that would be In the best interest of my fur baby. They followed up with calls to see how she was. I cannot say enough about them. Highly recommend.

I was very pleased with the service I received today from CCVS in Dennis. I was in town for vacation and my dog became ill. I called the office prior to my arrival to confirm they could see her. The receptionist was extremely friendly, patient and informative. Upon my arrival, she was courteous and efficient. My dog was triaged by a tech within minutes of arrival and the initial consultation with the vet occurred within 15-20 minutes of arrival. After the vet consultation, I returned to the waiting room when my dog demonstrated why she was at the office. I requested some paper towels to clean up after her, but the receptionist very sweetly told me not to worry about it and proceeded to clean up the mess. My dog was then taken back for treatment. She spent about 30 minutes getting treatment and upon completion, a vet tech walked me through the next steps of my dog's at home care and then checked me out. The charge for the visit was about what I expected for emergency care, but the peace of mind I felt after the visit was worth it.

My dog was experiencing internal bleeding and the doctors took her right in and set about figuring out what was going on. Dr. Boyle was so sweet and considerate and understood what my dog and I were going through with a very bad diagnosis. I was so glad that my dog could get such immediate and considerate care. Thank you.

Staff is always helpful! They always triage your pet within minutes of walking in the door so if they needed to be stabilized, they'd do that. If your pet is stable, you will be waiting but the facility is clean, has plenty of seating, TV, magazines, etc. Honestly better than the human ER 😅I've had to take my pets to this ER 3 times, always for weird illnesses that show up between 3am and 6am before our normal vet is even open and I'd rather wait 3hr+ in a medical facility than at home where I don't know what to do it something went wrong. This ER is always extremely busy since it's the only 24 hour pet hospital on the Cape. They have a Bourne location right off the bridge that's *usually* a little less busy. Be patient, be kind.

I brought my 5 month old pup to CCVS this afternoon when he was sick and not acting like himself. Mary and MC at the front desk were so warm, friendly, and professional. Though they were very busy, Mary and MC squeezed my pup in to be seen by a doctor. Dr. Lee was very kind, thorough, and knowledgable and I felt beyond comfortable knowing my pup was in such good hands. Thank you again to everyone CCVS for taking such good care of Tucker. You all went above and beyond today!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all staff and doctors. The hardest thing as a pet parent is to have to let go of your baby. The staff and the doctor were incredibly understanding and sensitive. This is THE ONLY clinic on Cape Cod that would let you be with your baby during this heart wrenching moment. The staff set up a cozy area to the side yard of the clinic where you can cuddle up with your animal. The doctor came outside once we were ready to let go, and we were holding the animal during this process. So incredibly compassionate! Thank you!
