Dr Matthew Callaghan is excellent. The treatments are honest, professional and delivered with integrity and real care. We've been using Ipswich Animal Hospital for maybe 15 years now, and every encounter has been positive.Whether treating our puppies for the occasional ailments, delivering annual routine care or helping us in the toughest of times by coming into his office at 3:00 am as one of our puppies was passing, we've always been delighted. And BTW, that includes all the staff, from front desk onward! The only reason we gave them 5* is because 10* wasn't an available option!!

I went to a vet appointment with my mother for our cat Lil' tonight and it resulted in her needing to be put down. I was treated unbelievably rude by Dr. Callahan. He was pretty dismissive & cold from the beginning, as he assessed her, and seemed like he must have been having a bad night. I reached out to pet my cat and he immediately said "WE'VE GOT IT OK?! THANKS!" in a very snappy aggressive voice and pulled her away from me. I told him he had been rude in a non-confrontational voice and he asked if we wanted to take her somewhere else and said me petting her wouldn't help her feel better. I'm sorry, but I simply reached out & pet my dying cat in her last hours on earth. For him to snap at me for no reason when I only tried to pat her is completely uncalled for and unprofessional. I don't advise anyone who cares about their pet to go there. I'm not leaving anything out and hope this vet realizes the importance of a good doctor or vet's bedside manner and changes his. No one should be treated like that, especially when their cat is dying.

These guys are the best!! Dr Callaghan is outstanding, “bedside manner”, and our puppies love him!Over the years I’ve experienced many veterinarians, I can tell you that Ipswich Animal Hospital is absolutely top of the pack.

We took our young dog to Bulger ER after she presented as suddenly blind with severe GI issues. They encouraged us to euthanize. We took her to Dr. Callahan the next morning and he gave us hope. Diagnosed her with leukemia and started chemo. Saved her life!! Now she’s back to her happy puppy self. And she can see!!As a little chihuahua she likes about 6 people in the world and 3 of them work at Ipswich animal hospital.

My dog Rebel was hit by a pickup truck just after 6pm on a busy street near my parents house a few weeks back. From the outside everything seemed fine except his tail was pretty badly mangled so I knew at a minimum he was going to need stitches. Then there's that unknown question of 'Is there any internal injuries?'. My dad googled "emergency vets near me" because it's after 6pm on a Monday so most places are closed. He somehow got a hold of Dr. Callahan who offered to meet us back at the clinic. Dr. Callahan was amazingly professional and straight forward. I was a mess so I appreciated the fact that he laid everything out on the table on how things were going to go. He gave Rebel a full assessment and advised we keep an eye on him for any signs that could indicate internal issues. He also said that his tail would need to be amputated. Labs are happy dogs so even if it hurts they will continue to wag their tails and not let the wound heal. I watched Rebel all day Tuesday and he kept wagging his bandages off, further proving Dr. Callahan's point. On Wednesday he went back in and had the amputation as well as x-rays and blood work to check for internal damage. The entire staff at this place was kind and knowledgeable. To top all this off, when I brought Rebel back to get his stitches out, I had my 12 year old Lab Buddy with me. Dr. Callahan took the time to sit down with Buddy and explain a neurological issue that was starting to happen with Buddy's back legs. He then gave me recommendations on how to help him moving forward. I don't know if he realizes how much that meant to me because other Vets that I have expressed my concerns to about this very issue just reply with "oh he's old" or "it's probably arthritis". I always had a feeling it was something more! It is for these reasons and many more that I have decided to continue taking my dogs to Ipswich Animal Hospital for all their Veterinary needs moving forward. Many many thanks to Dr. Callahan and his amazing team!

I have been going here with several dogs for 10+ years and never had a problem until recently. They must’ve hired some new front desk staff because they were insulting and disrespectful to both me and my dogs and cats. They better figure out their front desk staff because they loose all of their clients.

Very disappointed with ipswich animal hospital. I have been begging for days for an examination for puppy after being a loyal customer for 10+ years with my older pets. The unprofessionalism on the phone and blatant ignorance from staff was mild blowing. Safe to say I will not be brining my new dog here and hopefully soon will be having my other dogs transferred out of their care. I do not recommend this place to anyone who even remotely cares about their pets since they sure don’t!!

Honestly really disappointed in this establishment. My cat Apollo had gone here and was even rescued by one of their vet techs and I adopted him from Ipswich Humane. We have since adopted another cat that needed care right away and I asked if I could bring him in for a full check up and to see if there was a blockage. I got told that because it had been a while since I had been in ( Covid and I had a baby) that I was a inactive client and they couldn't help me or my 10 month old kitten. I had to go spend thousands at the emergency room instead and drive into Boston and spent hours there. I am now bringing him to Newbury Animal hospital to have him on file there instead of Ipswich Animal hospital so if this happens again I can get him care locally. I was in tears on the phone begging for help for him since it was local and I also have a toddler I needed to get from school. I really think this could have been handled better as an existing client.

We've been taking our dogs here for 6 years. Dr. Callahan has been wonderful with them all.And when we had to help our Boxer unexpectedly cross the rainbow bridge, the care and compassion he showed was first class. He has helped with a multitude of illness, injury and curiosities since then. I highly recommend .

Dr. Callahan took care of my mom's dog for all 16 years of its life and was incredibly warm and compassionate when it was time to send her over the Rainbow Bridge. Forever grateful.

Have taken my two puppy's there as well as my parents dog. Dr Callahan is the nicest most professional vet I have ever dealt with thus far. He's straight forward, and honest in his opinions. Most vets I have been to try to get as much $$ out of you as possible and recommend needles things. Not here. he came into the room and started playing with the dogs as if they were his own. He was very nice and professional. I have enjoyed every experience thus far there and am happy with his work and his opinions on things. Most of all he listens, which surprisingly is hard to find out there! I have 4 dogs and they will all be going to Dr Callahan. Very pleased with this place and the service we have received.

Was told I was no longer a client because my dogs haven't been seen recently. One pup was spayed there, and my old girl had eve surgery! But because I'm old school and have worked around and many vets, am of the mentality you use a vet when you need them. This place turns you away when needed.Definitely finding a vet that cares more about animals, than money!

He may be a wonderful vet but that’s only if he likes you. My dog had a “physical” Dr C. Did nothing but listened to his heart and said it was fine. He said his ears were fine but he didn’t even look into them! Then said dog was fine for being a hundred years old! That was 5 weeks ago, my poor dog died yesterday at 13 years old. Don’t waste your time or money on this vet

Dr. Matt is fantastic. A pet lover and owner himself, he explains what he'd do if caring for his own dog, and takes the time to look at the full health of the animal. Wouldn't bring my lab anywhere else.

We bring our dog Tiki to see Dr. Callahan. Tiki is a rescue and is a little sassy at the vet. These guys treat her well and are very patient. This Sunday Tiki ate something bad and was acting poisoned. I called Dr. Callahan’s cell number off the clinics recording. He was out of town and still answered the call immediately. He took the time out of his personal life to help us out. I wish my doctor would do that-
