The staff and owners of Newtonville Pet have been consistently helpful, even though I have never purchased a pet from them. My three parrots and three dogs are rescues - and they have always been welcomed during our visits. It is very hard to find affordable wing and talon trimming at pet stores OR veterinarians. But Newtonville provides both. One of my birds requires extra TLC because of injuries - and the staff is very patient with her. My large rotti-mix panics when his nails are trimmed; 80 pounds of terrified dog. But the people at Newtonville Pet remain calm and he is comforted by that. This store deserves community support. The larger pet stores want to wipe out the small, independent pet stores. Don't let that happen ! Those larger stores are mostly staffed with young, inexperienced workers. Newtonville Pet has experienced, highly qualified personnel, who remember both the customers and the individual needs of the pets they bring in.

Newtonville Pet is a lovely pet store, I love all its animals, especially the puppies, but I'm not sure where they come from and they have quite expensive pricing for some things. I like how it is family run and sometimes they give you advice on how to treat the animals, and the puppies get to play with each other. But their habitats are little cages, I wish that was a bigger space since energetic puppies need more room. Also, I barely see the dogs get out. When I ask them they say "They need to rest. They're too energetic." And that makes no sense to me since if they run around that would wear them out. I told them that to but the answer was final. I like the parakeets, but sometimes I hear birds on the other side of the wall. Why are there so much more birds that customers can't see? I don't like secrets being kept from me. But I do appreciate when the dogs are out that they clean up after them immediately, and they have toys to play with. And here's a tip: I think they should sell mice/rats. I like the frogs and fish but sometimes I see all the fish in the habitat are dead, and they don't take them out. I don't like seeing dead things, too sad. There's a corn snake that's been there forever, and I feel kind of bad. The price on that snake won't go down, so I fear it may live there for the rest of its life. All in all, I appreciate all the hard work there with a few complaints. It's still better than Petco/Petsmart.

I think this place is great. I just got a wheaten terrier from the store. Everything was friendly and big and nice!
