In early November I adopted the sweetest little cat- only 5 pounds and very unsure. Her name is now Florence and she is a robust and trim 8 pounds- she I beautiful and brimming with personality. She has changed my life! I am so proud of her and of the organization that helps find these loving animals homes. Thank you

My husband saw I had fallen in love with a Rabbit at MSPCA Nevin’s farm. He surprised me with him for my birthday. Our family had been searching for the right pet for a year and our hearts fell in love with Pinto. They did express to me they did not have much information on Pinto from his previous owner, only that he had a corneal scar and scar on his right ear. I spent a long time the day I was there, asking many questions about him to two different staff members. One was in the adoption center and the other worked in the Vet services. I asked in length about possible health conditions, what the rabbit would need, issues to watch out for, costs of medical care etc. NEVER did overgrowth of teeth needing to be shaven for life come up in conversation. Never was it mentioned that this breed is proned to have dental and breathing issues from breeding. We adopted Pinto. I noticed after a week of having him his right eye had discharge. I called the MSPCA and explained my concern considering we just got him and they told me to bring him back for evaluation. I explained the paperwork stated his exam was done under sedation so how could they have possibly evaluated him properly? By week 3, we bring him in to be evaluated and the Vet states his molars have overgrown and are blocking his tear ducts. He will need to have his teeth shaved every 4-6 weeks for life. They offered to cover the first teeth shaving but they could not book it until more than a month out. We asked what the cost is usually and they stated $400!! Who can afford that?? We took him home and I called vets in New Hampshire and Maine asking if there were more affordable options. The cheapest I could find would be $200 because he would need to be sedated every time they do this to him. Meanwhile, Pinto went from being sweet to aggressive and territorial. He would nip my ankles when I came in his room , stand on his hind legs in a “boxing” stance, he would run away in fear of me….all behaviours I did not see the first 3 weeks. In the first few weeks he nipped both my kids but I believe it was due to food aggression and fear. After that, he never nipped them again.I finally called back in to speak with a manager but actually spoke with the behavioural specialist there. I explained how there were so many failures from start to finish. This has been the most traumatic experience my family has been through. I asked to bring Pinto back and select another animal. They agreed to that or offered my adoption fee back (which I am grateful for) but explained to me when he returns he will be euthanised! I am not sure why that information was shared with me but it immediately made me feel uncomfortable, responsible for him and guilty. I started balling my eyes out and continued crying for the next day. We are already beyond disbelief we have to return him but now knowing he will be killed? I wish I could have been spared that at the very least. I made every attempt on Facebook groups to find someone willing to take him despite his health issues and was unsuccessful in finding someone. At which point, I had no other choice than to surrender him. I spoke to Caitlyn the behavioural specialist in immense detail about how horrific this experience has been. All the humans in Pinto’s life failed him and it deeply saddens me that their are no rehabilitation attempts made for Rabbits. She was very understanding and explained that Pinto’s life would not be a good one constantly being put under sedation and the fear of transporting him back and forth may worsen his behaviour. For those reasons, they have to euthanise him. I understood her explanation, however, he should have never been put forth for adoption without proper behavioural and medical examination. You shouldn’t make an animal seem more adoptable just for them to find a home. I have children and this could have mounted to worse. I’m horrified of the experience. I REALLY hope they learn from this and do better for the animals and the families.

We had a great experience at Nevins farm. Our experience starts out sad but has a more than happy ending! 2 weeks ago we had went and picked out a handsome 1 year old rabbit named Louie, he needed to be neutered so we had to wait a week. We were so excited, the wait felt so long. Unfortunately, we got the phone call that Louie didn’t make it through his neuter surgery likely due to an underlying condition. Of course this is not the Mspca veterinarians fault, things happen and surgery is always a risk. We were heart broken, we only met him once but we were anticipating him and preparing for a whole week. The staff at the mspca were so kind and sympathetic, over the phone we had let them know we will come look at other bunnies they have available. We live a little far so it was a 40 min drive for us to get there. When we got there, we found Doug. He was the complete opposite of Louie, he was 4lbs bigger than him and the hides we had setup at home for Louie were definitely too small for doug, but Doug just stood out to us. One of the wonderful staff members at the mspca helped us get to know Doug but letting us meet him on a more personal level, she even had a list of bunnies we may be interested in since Louie’s passing on a little sticky note. I really wish I remembered her name, but if you’re reading this, thank you so much and we greatly appreciate you and your kindness! Anyway, we came home with Doug and I wouldn’t have it any other way!

We saw several available ferrets on their website and called ahead to ask if they were still available/inquire about the adoption procedure. The woman we spoke to on the phone was very nice and encouraged us to come in person to meet them and apply. She even called us back with some additional information and again invited us to head over any time from 12-3.We hopped in the car and made the hour drive from Boston, but the vibe upon arriving was very different. We are a mixed race couple and were speaking Spanish as we waited, so I don't know if that was a factor. The families in front of us were greeted in a friendly manner, but the woman did not look up from the computer when it was our turn. When we explained we were there to meet Toby the ferret, she said "he's already been adopted." I mentioned that we had just called and been told all the ferrets were available to meet. Still not looking up from the computer, she snapped "all the ferrets are spoken for." We felt uncomfortable and saw ourselves out.I understand adoptions can happen quickly, and if all the ferrets were truly taken home in the time it took us to drive over, then that's great! I just wish the employees had given us the same respect as other visitors, or had at least had the courtesy to look at us and speak with the same politeness we gave her. We drove 2 hours round trip based on a phone conversation and were treated very differently when we arrived in person. We have previously had wonderful experiences at both the Boston and Salem locations, so I have no idea what prompted the coldness at Nevins today. I have literally never experienced/claimed discrimination before but my husband and I cannot think of another reason to explain why we were so clearly unwelcome compared to the other visitors.

In this farm you can find many pets for the home and be part of the family. I love it.

The staff is always friendly and they put the animals first. Because they put the animals first you can no longer visit the dogs without picking a dog from a list and then they will let you meet the dog. A few of us didn't know that prior to going and were a little disappointed even if I do understand why.

The MSPCA at Nevins Farm is a beautiful property to care for many breeds of animals! Thankfully thanks to people’s generous donations my beautiful kitty had an infected uterus.. I’m sadly disabled and cannot afford to cover this type of emergency.. these ANGELS got me funding to cover the cost of the spading and aftercare with all my kitty’s vaccinations and microchipping ! I don’t know what I would’ve done without them! They were caring and explained every step of the way way they were doing.. My kitty is on the mend and i’m so grateful! Please donate to the MSPCA! They rescue every breed of animal to give a second chance at a quality life

What an excellent job at organized chaos. From pre informing you on what you need to do, to drop off, pick up, and explaining everything. Communication was top notch 100%. I was there at 650 before they opened to a line of people already there. I was checked in and on my way by 712. The level of experience, compassion and work ethic really shows here. They bailed me out huge with my female rescue and I can't stress enough how wonderful they were. Highly recommend to anyone. What an amazing group of people. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart. You guys are awesome!!!

Christina, the clinic manager, was rude and uncaring. Was at Nevins farm to unfortunately euthanize my dear friend Cici. She has no business working with the public, let alone be the manager. On the other hand, assistant manager Claire was fantastic. She calmed my daughters nerves and made the process a little less painful. A special thank you goes out to Danielle who facilitated this difficult process.

Was very disappointed in the poor communication demonstrated. Inquired multiple times if an animal was available because we would be driving over an hour away, Just to be told when we got there no sorry he cannot go alone it has to be together. Otherwise the facility and staff themselves were amazing

While many come here to see the animals and to play with them the only current option is to either become a volunteer or to go online. While it makes sense that the animals get stressed out by humans it would have at least been nice to see them even if it was just a walk thru. I was though able to see the rabbits 🐇 without an appointment but we weren’t able to hold them. You might want to call, make an appointment and look at the animals online before heading over.

Wonderful experience at Nevins Farm last Friday! We visited the place during their Fee-Waived Adoptathon for small animals and birds. The rescued animals looked very well kept and happy. Adopted a few beautiful finches that afternoon.

My family has always adopted animals from Nevins Farm. The staff is lovely and they do exceptional work in rescuing and helping animals and their people. My husband and I adopted a sweet senior girl from them on Sunday. She's a wonderful addition to our family.

Needed a mouser cat.Went to Nevins they first recommended a barn cat. They didn’t have any & told me to keep checking back with them.So I kept checking back with them then my 3rd visit was told they would not adopt a barn cat to me because I live in an apartment complex.Told me it would have to be an indoor cat.Kept checking back to find a cat that would match with me.About my seventh visit I found a cat that was indoor & seemed to really like me.Filled out an adoption form & waited with the cat to be approved.Went to the car to get the carrier. After about an hour they informed me that they now wouldn’t approve me for any cats.I felt bad after spending all that time with that cat. After all that,I left angry, sad, depressed, disappointed.I’m absolutely heartbroken.😿💔About 3 weeks later I went & found a cat through Lowell Humane Society no problems at all. When Nevins gives you a hard time just go to Lowell Humane society

I adopted two kittens from the Metheun MSPCA on December 8 2021. The foster family who cared for them did such a wonderful job. Two weeks prior to the adoption they sent me pictures and gave me information about the kitten’s personalities. The foster parent sent me a laser mouse and 12 pack of kitten food along with a kind note about the arrival of the kittens. I’m so appreciative of this high level of fostering because the kittens are both very socially acclimated and happy. Thank you.

We adopted our wonderful kitten Twix and brought her home November 30 2021, and she has been the biggest joy in our lives. Nevins Farm took great care of her, made sure she went home spayed and microchipped and ready for her forever home. She is doing well and healthy and we couldn’t be happier or more grateful! Their adoption process is also straightforward and fair! Would definitely recommend going here first if your looking to adopt! Thank you so much to all the wonderful staff at Nevins Farm for taking such great care of our baby and all the other animals in need you care for!

Had to put my cat to sleep. The staff were very kind to me and my son. They let us take as much time as we needed. My cat was adopted from them 15 yrs ago. So it was a very hard to let her go. Would recommend for adopting and for surrendering. Or even for a tough decision like putting your pet down.

We adopted a bonded pair of cats here, aged 5 and 15. I was gently warned that the older one was a hospice adoption, she was in early kidney failure. I'm happy to update that she lived another playful 6 years to age 21. Daphne, her surrogate kitten, is doing great at 11!

My family has adopted many pets from here. The staff and volunteers are amazing. This is a great place to visit, even if you're not adopting, to look at animals. There will occasionally be a volunteer who will let you touch a rabbit or chicken. You can always pet the cats, but cannot pet the dogs. You cannot pet the farm animals. You can view the farm animals when the main building is closed. They accept donationations of old bedding and towels. We have never had to surrender an animal, but I understand they like to talk with the owner about the animals temperament at the time of surrender. The shelter treats their animals humanely. Thw dogs get adopted very quickly! Great place. The adoption fees are reasonable. There is a bathroom in the main building, but I did not notice if it is accessible.
