Adopted our kitten John here and they were very kind letting us come by to meet all the cats. He was treated for fleas and dewormer right before we left and we were given all his medical history. Hes a love bug and we are so happy!

We picked up our sweet new kitty here. The people there really love the animals and the pets there are so adorable. They had a large variety of cats, and several kittens. It was hard to choose just one! ❤️ Highly recommend this shelter!

I filled out an application for a kitten at Care, and they didn't approve it based on the fact that my cats don't have a past vet history. I do have recent history of the both of them, and they have both have had their rabies shots/ exams. They've also gotten a clean bill of health, from the vet. What does past vet history have to do with anything? They deprived a cat of a good home, for such a foolish reason that doesn't make any sense at all. Who does that?

These guys are the best. I've adopted three rescued pit bulls from them through the years. They're always available and ready to help when an issue comes up.

My mom contacted this woman to help her with her dog because he was attacking people in the house. At this point everyone was fearful of the dog. Ruth, the 67 year old woman, told my mom she had a trainer that could help her. After my mom REPEATEDLY texted Ruth asking her to help her because no one could take the dog, my mom was running out of options. My mom loved her dog took the upmost care for her dog more than anyone I have ever met. They gave my mom a run around telling her the lady doesn’t do “phone calls” because only emails my mom doesn’t know how to email and she has told them this. Finally my step father was able to email her and the lady NEVER responded back. After my mom texted Ruth repeatedly, she was still getting a run around. Ruth then texted my mom to never get a dog again that she killed her dog, what kind person, not even person, PROFESSIONAL, SAYS THAT?!? She is a disgusting human being. Absolutely disgusting

I can't recommend CARE Southcoast enough. The volunteers are all super sweet and amazingly dedicated and they really do their best to help every cat they can -- even the ones with expensive medical issues (like my cat!). They are taking care of so many cats! Way more than is shown on their website, so it was really helpful to visit in person. I adopted my very first cat ever from them last fall and they helped me deal with every step of the process and were super responsive whenever I needed help.

Ruth is horrible person so you said but she only took email and told me the price for the assessment was $255 dollars plus travel pay and then I replied to her and asked for a date and time for her to do it and no answer Ana I text you on Monday begging you to call me and told you no one was safe in my house and I had no choice but to make the appointment and I heard nothing from you till today Saturday telling me never to get a dog again two day after I has to put him down on Thursday but I’m sorry I didn’t know you was 67 years old

I had an amazing experience adopting my cat from CARE. The volunteers (who also manage full-time jobs) do an amazing job caring for the rescued animals and dedicate so much money and energy to keeping them happy, healthy and cared for. The application process was easy, and they are very thorough in reviewing applicants and following up with references. This is great to see because it shows how dedicated they are to matching the cats and dogs with adopters that are the perfect fit for them. They genuinely care about all the animals and it's touching to see how excited they are when they're placed in good homes. They have open hours on the weekend and Monday evening so that you can stop by and meet all the cats. For people looking to adopt, I highly recommend CARE!

My friend and I do our best to volunteer here when it fits into our jam-packed schedules. Everyone is so kind and loving to the cats, and their incredibly hard work can't be credited enough. The shelter is clean and the cats get the best care!

Hi I have read some of the reviews on here and felt I should comment. I visited this shelter 3 times, I did not smell any urine and the cats were well cared for. This shelter takes in some cats that would otherwise be euthanized. We adopted Autumn who is the best cat EVER! such a sweet girl. I took her to my vet for a wellness check . clean bill of health no fleas's or worms. I have 2 dogs who co-exist with her but are not that happy. we have had some minor issues with chasing, etc but we would never return Autumn as we love her so much. She sleeps with us and love s to sit on my lap while watching tv! we have had no issues with her whatsoever. There is always an adjustment period with any new pet. Patience is the name of the game. Don't bash a place because a pet is not working out, it is really not fair when you see how hard the volunteer's work

While it was determined that my living situation would not be suitable for the cat I was potentially interested in adopting, the volunteer that reached out to me was responsive, professional, and placed a high importance on the well-being of the animals and adopters alike. Would definitely considering adopting from this shelter if the right cat comes by!

We wanted a new kitten for our family. We were reaching out to different shelters with no email/return phone call back or if they did respond they were very short and non informative. We decided to reach out to C.A.R.E.left a voice mail and later that evening Heidi contacted me. I submitted an application that night and she invited me to the shelter the next day (even though it was not open to the public). We were greated by two very nice volunteer ladies who were cleaning. The cats looked very well cared for, the shelter looked and smelled very clean. The two nice volunteers were very sincere and knew about almost every kitten/cat there. We fell in love with two kittens and contacted Heidi right away and she was very receptive to every text all day. She text me about 3:00 said approved (application submitted and approved within 6 hours) and you are welcome to come pick up tonight. Off we went to pick the kittens up and there were all sorts of caring foster people, volunteers, and helpers there caring for the kittens/cats. Andrew reviewed everything with is talked to us about caring for them and checked them to make sure they were infact ready to go.We left feeling so good at the fact that not only did we adopt to kittens that needed a home but we got them from C.A.R.E. It was a great feeling to be in a shelter that had so much love for eachother and the animals. These people are all volunteers and most of the have full time jobs as well, and caring for animals is a big responsibility. We will recommend them to everyone!Thank you C.A.R.E. for doing what you do and making a difference to so many😘

I just wanted to let you all know that my beautiful girl Cleo that I adopted there in 2016 has gone... I'm absolutely heartbroken right now. I just wanted you to know. She's the beauty who actually jumped out of the cage into my arms the day I was fortunate to get her😭

My family first put our application on a dog on 6/24. We continued to have to email the to get any progress with the adoption process. It is now 7/31 and we still have not even met the dogs. We ended up going to Lighthouse Animal Shelter a week ago and put in an application. The adoption process was done within less than a week, I am now at home with a perfect dog and could not be happier with my experience at Lighthouse!

We adopted a cat there last summer and he has such and amazing personality. They know each cat very well and take care of individual needs. Good people, great cats.

These volunteers and Foster parents are dedicated. Cats are able to walk around and interact with adopters. Better than a shelter. Easy but thorough process. Location does have limited parking.

I've adopted many animals and this place is by far the worst. It's extremely dirty. I've volunteered at many shelters and have never seen a place so dirty. The stench of urine was overwhelming. There was a woman there that made a comment to the cat I adopted.. She said hopefully these people dont abandon you. In his papers they had the woman's name, address and phone number that surrendered him. That information should be confidential. The cat was supposed to be house broken and he urinated all over my daughter's room. I've come home to poop on the bed. I've called them numerous times and haven't gotten a response. He is also infested with fleas and now my other cat has them so I had to get them treated. I could go on and on. I'vecalled them with no returned calls.. Originally my daughter and I were going to ask about volunteering at the shelter but now I'm stuck with this cat that's ruining my home so I'm all set.

I have learned a valuable lesson about this place. If you fall in love with an animal they have be certain that the animal is available by everyone that works there along with the people who say were they go. I have 2 children that have a broken heart thinking we were going to be new parents to this one cat that is on there web site as available. And once seen we were told she was available and the people there even put a hold for us. And now we are told the cat is going to a care taker there who has been "eyeing her up for a while" I just think things are run so messed up. I dont recamend falling in love with an animal until "the boss tells you different" :(

We picked up our little ones, Pecan and Almond. Though the shelter is small to is run entirely by volunteer staff and thrives off donations from the people. The staff are kind and determined to find the best home for all their animals.

I adopted a cat from them who they took in after it was simply abandoned in a building after it's owners moved away. The cat's attributes are exactly as they stated. They are doing their best to help animals in a place where many animals get neglected, abused, and hurt.

I bought a kitty there. They treat their cats very great. They are always cleaning up in there. They let you let the pet and take out any cat you want. The staff is amazing.
