We tried to have Lady groomed at Petsmart but they had to stop the appt immediately because of her fear/aggression. Hair of the Dog was able to groom her completely, including her most difficult sensitive areas (legs/feet) without her becoming too aggressive. They suggested an appointment time and schedule which will hopefully teach her to calm down at the groomers. I was really worried that grooming her was going to be a major issue for the rest of her life but HOTD seems to be the perfect solution. I am so grateful they made such an effort to keep her calm during the session.

I took my cat for the first time to this shop, and she turned out beautiful. I have had a hard time finding a groomer for cats, but this place is amazing. Wendy is the groomer that did my cat, and what a wonderful job she did, I will be using them from now on.

I could not be happier with my experience with Hair of the Dog! We are moving to Lothian, MD so I wanted to find a good local groomer for my doodle. My other two babies are short haired rescues so he is the only one that needs a lot of TLC!! Curb side drop off was so easy- done in 4 hours and when I pulled up they recognized my car and brought Potter right out to me. The bandana they put on him was Gryffindor themed and ARE YOU KIDDING ME (his name is potter so like how did they do that!!!) I got a report card for Potter after his grooming session and my god it almost brought tears to my eyes- I can tell how much they cared about my dog! Amy was his groomer and she was so friendly and did a fantastic job. Can't wait to see you again Amy!!!

HOTD is by far the best groomers around! We've been taking our fur children here for months and I swear they come out looking even better than the last time. The staff is always friendly and prompt. Storm and Taboo look forward to their spa days and I look forward to the report cards. Keep doing the great job!! Definitely recommend!

They take really good care of my Bella! They are professional and truly love what they do. I get a report card and photo each time she is groomed. They are also following strict guidelines to keep all of the customers safe. I recommend this grooming salon!

My wife and I moved to the area from DC a couple of years back and had taken our pup to and from DC to his old groomer which is just not sustainable from a distance standpoint. I was so glad to find hair of the dog. The groomers are very friendly and professional and whenever I call they’re very nice and patient. I like the text line and you get a text when your dog is ready. My dogs groom looks excellent each time. My only complaint is the price. I think it’s about $20 too high for the groom itself then you add on tip and it’s close to $200. For the area that seems expensive. I didn’t even pay that in dc. That being said, I’m happy with the quality of my dogs groom and I know he is treated well when he’s there. The ladies who work there are excellent!

Best ever grooming salon. They were so patient with Milo on his first ever grooming visit and Rudy came home looking like he was ready for the Westminster Dog Show! And...be sure to try the blueberry facial it smells sooooo good!!!

I loved the experience! I have an 8 year old handicap German Shepherd. I called and asked that they take special care of him. The staff is great and understanding. He looked beautiful and smelled great! Best experience I ever had taking my dog to the groomer!

Paws down, the best dog grooming business in Maryland. Our F1B Golden Doodle gets treated like a rockstar every-time. The gals really care about providing a whole spa experience for Teddy. Highly recommended!!

My dog is an elderly toy poodle who has had issues in the past with going to the groomer, he cannot see well and can be very snappy and challenging to work with. Hair of the Dog Grooming was able to accommodate him & give him the best haircut he’s had in years. We are so thankful we’ve found a great & gentle groomer in Calvert. Thank you!

I took my 2 yorkies 13 y/o sibs who have been groomed every 3 months their entire lives by at least 4 different groomers. I've never called to complain to any groomer until today. By far these people are over priced ($180 including tip) and full of excuses. Neither dog were trimmed around the eyes. My female's ears were neither trimmed nor tipped. I took her back in after I realized but was told she was flailing, so for her safety her ears were not trimmed. Also, I clearly know that it was not possible to cut her toenails so short without quicking them. I cut both of my Yorkies nails between visits, I can see the styptic on every nail! And yet I'm told they grinded her nails. Never in 13 yrs has this Yorkie tolerated that! To add injury to insult, the groomer advised she tolerated a dremmel on her nails! Please! Perhaps she was in pain and terrorized so she would not tolerate having the hair trimmed around her eyes and ears? Lies, lies, and more lies as the manager wanted to educate me on "we won't push the dog which might cause injury." Funny, no groomer has ever had these issues except when they attempted to grind nails!! No, you have an inexperienced groomer. Never have the ears and hair around the eyes not been trimmed (both dogs). Good customer service would first require telling the owner before presenting the dogs if you were unable to complete the cut. Number 2, $160 for a bath and nail trim? Please know I did not ask for a refund or discount. That is not my motivation. I don't know what has happened in today's society when a customer calls with concerns that her pet would have experienced pain from quicking the nails, sees the evidence and does not receive a full cut. Their answer was to bring my female back to tip her ears. I asked immediately before leaving the shop. Why would I put her thru the stress of going back? I'm happy to work with someone inexperienced but don't lie to the customer and least of all as a manager attempt to defend incomplete work that a customer paid for. I believe if you have a short haired dog needing a bath you'd be ok. But if I could score zero I would because your defensive inadequate customer service leaves a lot to be desired. I want better for my fur babies!!

She comes home looking and smelling like a new dog every time. They are professional and reliable. I have even taken my long haired cat to them! The team at Hair of the Dog is incredible! They did an excellent job at grooming my Mini Australian Shepherd. I thought that it was a great value for everything the service included. Your first visit you even get a free upgrade, so my pup got the fizzy foot bath and toothbrush. I will definitely be a loyal customer!

I VERY highly recommend Hair of the Dog for your grooming needs! Our fur baby has the body of a 90 lb pit mix and the heart of a lap dog. Needless to say, we worry about him when we have to leave him somewhere. Hair of the Dog is FANTASTIC with him and we know he's loved and in good hands when he is there for his baths! The price and quality of their work is excellent and to top it off, we get a "report card" and a photo after every visit, which I LOVE! I can't recommend this business enough; professional, caring, and great value for the cost!

The staff is very friendly and always makes me feel like my pups are important to them and they treat them as if they were their own.Nina is their groomer and is always accommodating to my request to ensure all three of our small dogs are taken care of above just being groomed ,while in her care.They receive a “report card” after their visitWhich gives a report as to all aspects of the time they spent at Hair of the Dog. Including how they acted and reacted.They have many extra services and pampering add ones to make you pet look and small their best!Five stars every visit!!.

I was looking for a new groomer when my previous one closed. As luck would have it Hair of the Dog Opened up super close to my house. These ladies are AMAZING!!! Seriously, they do a fantastic job on my Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. She comes home looking and smelling wonderful. They provide a photo and report card for your information and best of all, she comes home happy! The groomers on staff are very professional and super sweet. I always recommend Hair of the Dog when someone is looking for a groomer. LOVE them!!

Elyssa takes amazing care of our pups on their spa days! She’s very attentive and helps us choose treatments that fit their needs (and ours!) so that they’re getting the most out of their visit!!But I trust ALL of the girls their with my loves!! I can’t say that for any other grooming salon!!I love getting their report cards after every groom with pictures of them so that I can see them having a blast!! (And I can also see what areas were struggles so we can work on them at home to make things a little easier for the girls at the salon! Haha.)Can’t imagine taking our babies anywhere else!

We took our Havanese puppy for his first grooming here and he looked absolutely handsome! They were attentive to the fact this was his first time and took the proper precautions to make sure it was a great first experience for him. They also have really great COVID response built into the drop-off and pick-up. Our puppy’s fur looked and smelled amazing after his spa day! I loved that they provided him with a bow tie and report card. We loved his new look and are looking forward to our next appointment with them and will definitely be bringing our other animals! Great service, prices, and quality of work!

Outstanding, patient, and caring groomer! My 17-year-old dog does not trust or like people she doesn’t know. She will growl and even snap if necessary. This was our 1st time at “Hair of the Dog”. I was concerned she would need to be muzzled (and even suggested they do so). They bathed, ground her long nails (with a grinder, not a clipper - soooo much better and safer, and less stressful for the dog), and cut her hair to our specifications. To top it off, they sent us a report via email of her chart (I’d expect a chart at the vet, but not the groomer - WOW! Above and beyond!) detailing everything they did and how she tolerated it, her behavior, etc. She came home with normal energy level and looking peaceful and happy. If anything, she looked like she’d had an amazing massage haha. She probably feels GREAT!!!Highly recommend “Hair of the Dog”!

Hair of the Dog is fantastic! I love the online scheduling, grooming report cards, and clear COVID protocols. The staff treats us like family and they greet our doodle , Trooper with excitement. Trooper loves his groomer Stephanie. Doodles are often difficult to groom and Stephanie does a wonderful job. We won’t go anywhere else.

We did the walk in service to get our dog's nails cut. Everyone was super friendly and helpful and I will definitely continue going back. I usually just take my dog once every 2 months to get bathed and everything at Petco, but I've repeatedly tried telling them to cut her nails shorter. Well Hair of the Dog, cut them as short as they can be, while still not cutting her at all. Now that's some skill! And it was only $15! Highly recommend!
