I’m not sure where to even start with this pet store, but this is probably honestly one of the worst pet stores I have ever seen. The lady working instantly jumped down our throat for asking a simple question. The fish tanks are absolutely disgusting. The guinea pigs live in a fish tank with absolutely no toys or enrichment. All of their rats are kept in tiny tanks with no ventilation, and if you know anything about rats (as you should if you’re selling them) they should not be kept in tanks due to having upper respiratory issues. They don’t even have water bottles or food. There is also a sick mouse that was up against the glass with visible uri symptoms. There were four different leopard geckos and one tank, the tank is probably no more than 5 gallons, and one of the geckos was very under weight and you could see every bone in his body. I am so ashamed at the way these animals are treated., It’s very obvious. This place cares more about making money off of them and giving them adequate housing. Sickening

I just went to Oaklands Tropical world today at 12:00pm, I got a terrarium kit with a baby green iguana, look at how cute she is. I can’t remember who helped me out but she was extremely helpful and informative. We got our little iguana all set up and fed and she’s doing amazing. She’s very sweet but a little skittish. The atmosphere is amazing and I got everything I needed for $300. Will be coming back again and hopefully they have a 6-7 ft tall tank for me in the future when this little iguana gets nice and big :)

Becky is actually the sweetest. You can tell she really cares about her animals and their well-being, as well as her customers! Whether you need help finding a pet or finding the resources to help them live the best life possible, she has your back. This is such a convenient place to shop for my pet rats food because the prices are great and so are the quality and customer services! I got my pet rats there in february and she provided me with all of the information on how they will grow and what cage size is best for them, as well as the best food and bedding for them. Forever shopping at Tropical World!

I took my daughters to Tropical World to pick out a Leopard Gecko as a new pet. Becky, the owner, spent a ton of time explaining everything we needed to know to create a healthy habitat for our new pet. She had a large selection of all of the necessities. When we selected our specific gecko, they were all so healthy looking. Our new gecko is calm, happy and already happily settled into her well appointed new home. I feel relieved knowing that we can continue to ask Becky questions as we raise our gecko. Very happy that she took the time to really help us make informed decisions today. My girls are thrilled, so I am also!

I love to go here for my fish needs. The owner is super helpful and the fish that she sells for the most part all have great body condition and are healthy. Only minor downside is because shes the only fish shop in the area she runs out of product quickly. With that being said the store gets restocked pretty fast. Definitely would recommend. I will say that if your new to fish keeping do your homework before purchasing fish because even though the owner is helpful it is a lot of info to leave to one person to tell you.

Got a hamster today I enjoyed the wide selection of animals and had lots of pet supplies but the animal enclosures are quite tiny and dirty. Overall the service was great.

Hit and miss. I support small businesses all the way, but some of the prices are double compared to other retailers for the exact same item. Some items have sat so long boxes are faded and dusty. However, I feel the owner works well, providing a variety of items for most pets with the small space they have. I have purchased pets here with 2 budgie parakeets, several fish and snails. I have not had any issues. I still stop in occasionally for the variety. The owner and I have spoken several times, she can come off as blunt and perhaps a little short at times but she is knowledgeable and is willing to special order items for you.

Some of the worst pet care I’ve ever seen. The animals are treated like disposable objects. They cohabitate many species that should NEVER be together. The animals are shoved in tiny, extremely improper, horrid setups. Dangerous products are used and animals are wounded and fighting one another. Please support another store. Do not give your money to these people as it’s just going to fund more neglect.

I have had a fish tank for 15 years. Recently I bought $50 worth of fish for my 55 gallon tank and have had nothing but trouble ever since! All the fish I had in the tank previously died within two days of adding the new fish. Several of the new fish died within the first few days as well. I’m still dealing with all kinds of fish and tank issues with the few I have left. Worst experience ever! I have never had so many issues with my tank in the 15 years I have had mine. I won’t be buying fish there again!

I can't believe this place is still open after hearing of all the interactions people have had with the owner and the awful customer service. She seems super nice and knowledgeable until some kind of switch flips and she's just not at all. I know of a few people who had planned to buy from her store but have chosen instead to order online or drive to Morgantown. The store is far too crowded, far too many small animals to one cage, guinea pigs had zero hay which is supposed to make up 80% of their diet, there was a dead, completely shriveled up lizard in one of the tanks. The smell alone in that place could send you right back out the door.

I normally don't like to write anything negative in a review so I will preface this with some positive notes prior to the things I dislike about this business. First of all, there are a lot of things to find in this store, so it does have quite the variety of products to choose from. The owner is fairly knowledgeable regarding her products and animals that she sells. I bought 2 cockatiels there (one male and one female) and they have been healthy and good natured.The issue that I have with Tropical World is the customer service. The owner is always eager to sell you something, absolutely, but when I called in regarding advice to the birds she sold me, she was not eager to assist me then. I know that she breeds her own birds, she told me so when she sold me the nesting box that I purchased. When my female laid her first eggs, I didn't know what to do and wanted to make sure my bird and her babies would be safe. When I called her and told her that my birds had eggs, she immediately got defensive and said, "You can't sell them without a license,so good luck with that." I told her that I didn't have any interest in selling them, just to make sure they would survive. She still kept going on about me selling my birds and how that would be illegal and that I should just do my own research on Google in regards to how to raise them, and how to get my license to sell them. She had given advice regarding bird care before so it felt like she didn't want another person selling birds to take business away from hers. Again, that was and is not my intent.She was rude the entire time and I have never gone back, nor will I ever return to the business again.I called one of the pet stores in Morgantown that I use to frequent when I lived there and was helped within minutes. Have your own opinions about this place, but I will not deal with a rude business, no matter what you may sell.

The lady was very rude and disrespectful she tried to get me to by this that I didn't need or have money for. I got a bird I had everything that it needed food cage everything the lady kept trying to get me to by things that a bird couldn't even eat it was gerbil food it even said not for other animals than I told her no I didn't have the and that not even for the bird she wouldn't even give me my chang after buying the bird as if she was gonna take it for something in the store she was trying to force me into doing than we decided to not even get the bird from how rude she was and said that there was no refunds. Yet said on her door refunds are accepted..and she did not take care of anything of the animals there was dead birds in there eating each other and didn't clean there cages NEVER GOING BACK THERE

I am absolutely disgusted that someone would ever treat these animals without a care in the world. This place needs shut down. This lady was neglecting these poor animals. She had rats and mice and many other poor animals stacked on top of each other and killing each other. The owner made me pay extra. I should’ve only payed like 30 bucks for what I got She made me pay over half a hundred dollars for a few things. I don’t recommend and I will never go back to this place ever again.

Was a huge help getting my new fish tank set up. A lot of inventory which does make it a little cramped but nice to have a pet store locally. Purchased roughly 25 fish over last three months and have only lost 2. Thank you Becky.

Becky is great, I happen to at work the hours that the store is open. Last minute out of town trip and I forgot to get dog food. Stopped by Becky had already closed, she saw I was there asked if I needed help with something, told her my situation and she was more than glad to let me in and sell me the Fromm I needed. Can't get that kind of service just anywhere. Definite repeat customer

Do not go there! This lady is nuts! My husband and I only ever shopped there twice and both times we had a bad experience. First with a very rude employee then the second time they gave me bad information regarding feeder fish for my turtle. I posted about the bad information and supplied the right information to them and now I am banned from the store and receiving threats. 😅

The people who own it and work it are extremely self centered and rude. They act as if the only customers that matter are friends of theirs. Worst business in oakland maryland. Sell your fish or plan on going to scales n tails in levale maryland. Better quality fish and better customer service. I will drive to Cumberland for a jar of fish food before I ever set foot in this establishment again...

Disgusting. I would give this place zero stars if I could. This place is inhuman. The animals look very depressed in their cage. Each beta fish Lives in a separate “tank”. Each “tank” was so small the fish could not turn around if they tried. It was about the size of a ping pong ball, literally that small. The other animals where very cramped, the rats where laying on top of each, do to the small cage. The rabbits had a tiny cage, there where two large rabbits in one cage. The birds where in a cage where they could not fly, I would estimate that there were 20-30 birds in the cage. Truly sad, and depressing. There was a speaker playing very loud music right beside the fish tanks. The woman working their was very loud and was talking about how she was going to take a smoke break. Please do not support this store. If you are looking for an animal, please go to a shelter, not a store that treats these poor animals like this. As long as you continue to buy from a place like this, they will continue to supply. If you buy from a shelter they will get animals that have been abandoned, abuse and , etc. you can save an animals life. Thanks for understanding. Please care about these animals.

When I was at this pet store I tested one of the squeaky toys to see if it was worth the price and the person who was working said that I needed to stop acting like a 5 year old and started to yell. Do not recommen to anyone. Very rude people who work there and overall horrible service not to mention the layout it is very hard to walk and is very crowded.

Feel ripped off. I bought a ferret and a large ferret starter kit. They recommend using their ferret food so they tell you they're swapping the one in the starter kit for theirs when in reality you pay for both and only receive theirs! Why get charged for 2 things and only receive one!

If the cramped/over crowded dingy store with harsh smells was not bad enough, this could be the worst customer experience I have seen. The appalling and rude treatment of another young employee by an older employee, verbally abusing the employee with cursing and harsh language in front of myself and my young daughter. Terrible. I will not be returning and I don't recommend anyone go there...not worth the single star.
