Truthfully, this is a typical West Marine boating store. The price of the items is much as you'd expect, as is the selection. There is not a lot to set this franchise apart from most others... until you talk to someone.The bumpers and their riggings you see are a direct result of talking to a store clerk who really used his boater's brain. You could tell he's been on the water for a bit. First, rather than pointing me to an already made, way overpriced bumper system, the young man who helped me actually spent a few minutes talking to me. He recommended the cheapest version of the items I needed, and we even went over the knots I should use, a full cleat and half cleat straight knot. It's strong as can be and a breeze to undo. And believe it or not, I actually saved a bundle at a West Marine!Of course, as a small store, they didn't have everything I needed on hand. I did have to order a few things on-line. But it's not a big deal, really; shipping is free if I pick it up at the store.Why not 5 stars? Because it's not so exceptional as to warrant the best possible rating. Three stars is an average rating, and average is not bad. It's average. The store itself is average, but the service is exceptional - 4 stars. That's a good rating, truly.

West Marine always has what I want. I couldn't give the fifth star because I think they often times overcharge. Still, if you need nautical supplies, chances are they will have it.

Great people in the Kent Island store. Ordered 100ft of 5/16 galvanized anchor chain and picked it up 2 days later. Only hiccup was a computer problem wouldn't allow my rewards to be applied. They worked on it and called for help. I believed it was just a big sale swamped the servers. In the end I saved the points for after the holidays.

Decent selection and friendly staff. Only started going here when boaters world shut down. 85 degrees and humid in store. My shirt was soaked immediately and I was hasty in my selection and ended up buying a shirt to change in to when I got in car. When your the only gig in town, you have no competition to keep you honest and raise the standard of service. If you can't provide comfortable atmosphere at reasonable temperatures on the hot days, don't open. That or give a discount for discomfort. I miss boaters world. They would have put this company out of business if owner didn't liquidate assets to save a dying film company. I don't complain, but I will speak up because the customer determines status quo and I'm doing my part to raise the bar. My experience today was one star, but I gave three so you're welcome. 3 sucks in the real world

Friendly and helpful staff, good selection of inventory. Always love coming to this place, but a bit overpriced. Sometimes just end up buying online, but otherwise a high quality WM.

I had one of our boats down and called looking for part the parts guy was very helpful . He didn't have everything I was looking for and helped me find what he didn't have locally. Very good customer service and support. Thanks to him the boat is up and running . The crew is back to work

You can shop only for essential items. What’s essential for one differs from another. If you aren’t sure where exactly what you need essentially is located in the store...don’t bother going in. These young kids did not even offer to ask if they could help me find what I needed. We know which stores are afraid of #LockdownLarry and which ones aren’t. We drove over to the West Marine in Deale and they allowed us to look around for what we needed and did not rush us out! I will not spend another freaking penny in the Kent Island Store ever!

Terrible customer service, walked in looking for help to find some parts, 3 salespersons just talked around the cash register. When I walked up to them and asked if someone could help me, only 1 looked at me, and never responded. I then asked why no one would help me and the person behind the cash register said sorry I was busy, even though he wasn’t helping anyone, and still didn’t offer to help,, so I just walked out

This is a fantastic store… It’s sad that the employees are disrespecting the owners by closing 25 minutes in advance of scheduled closing. Standing at the front door locking people out at 4:35 PM when everything is clearly posted that closing time is at 5 PM.

Lots of boating supplies are available here. I've heard the nickname "worst marine" but don't find it appropriate. The stuff isn't free or cheap, but overall a great supply store for boating.
