This is a great place to apt a pet from. There prices are very reasonable. They charge less that what it takes them to take care of the pet. Occasionally someone or business will even sponsor them all so they are free. Overall a great place and work to place animals in the right home. Recently got a cat from there who's owner had passed away. She has adapted and doing great.

My roommate and I got the sweetest kitten from here. The inmate who was working with the smaller kittens in the cat room was very nice and very friendly. However, the staff up front seemed to be put out by helping us do paperwork to adopt our new pet initially but then perked up to make the visit a positive one overall. Te trip can't be bad when you leave with a kitten!

This is the cleanest animal shelter there is in our surrounding counties. Not only have I adopted one dog here I am looking to adopt a kitten here too. The staff is very friendly and helpful as well. They are just a caring place over all for these animals. This puts a Hugh smile on my face. My daughter would come to the shelter just to look at the fur babies when going to college at UPike. It was a little pick me up. So 5 stars all day long for this shelter and if looking to adopt would suggest to look here first.

Today is the year anniversary of picking up our puppy who was 6 months old at the time. Seeing him thrive after being saved by the shelter has been life changing. He’s such a gift to our family. The shelter works hard to do their best for the animals and potential owners. For around $20 we got our new family member, a bag of food, and mandatory fixing. The staff is friendly and helpful.

The staff is extremely rude especially the lady answering calls. I will NEVER RECOMMEND ANYONE TO ADOPT AN ANIMAL FROM HERE.

I got my precious Chloe from there. She is so entertaining and fun to have around. Glad I could take her to her forever home! :)

I went to adopt a catto fren for the one I have at home. I was able to view the available cats with no issue, and since I was not able to commit to taking her to the vet to be fixed on Friday (two days post adoption), they gave me a certificate and an appointment for the next available date. Staff was friendly, supportive and available during my visit, and the facility is clearly cleaned and maintained on a regular basis.Anyone looking for a furever friend, PLEASE adopt from a shelter. Those babies need a good home, and while they're safe at the shelter, it's a sad existence to spend your life in a cage or otherwise neglected. Have a heart and bring home your best friend from PCAS!

I will not adopt from this Shelter. Been trying to find a Pet was blocked from their Facebook page and I am an animal Lover don't know Who or Why I was blocked to view thier page. Says a lot about the Director or Who ever is responsible for this I will no longer donate to this shelter either.

Never answer their phone. It rings and rings and rings. Then it stops. And you hear dead silence coming from their end.

I just bought a kitten from here! He has ear mites, Fleas all over him, he had litter matted in his fur, so skinny. This poor kitten has been so neglected. The negligence here is real!

My mother and I drove three hours here to adopt two poodles. The staff was so very sweet and helpful and seem to really care about the animals. The facility was clean and the price to adopt here is very very reasonable which lets you know they put the animals finding a home as top priority. We love our little dogs so much! We found them on petfinder and its first come first serve so we made sure to be there as soon as they opened! Thank you Pike County Animal Shelter you are truly doing the Lord`s work!

They're horrible if you're trying to do the right thing by bringing a stray dog to them and you can't take said dog to live qith you because the place you live doesn't allow pets just for them to say "sorry but you don't have a pikeville license" of course not I was on my way home from work from neighboring county all they did was say "sorry there's nothing we can " and after asking what I could do I just get a shoulder shrug like "like not our problem pal"theyre horrible and I hope they have the days that they deserve

They are super rough with the animals upon intake. That's in front of the people bringing them. I can only imagine what they do to them when no one can see. I didn't even want to bring this little dog due to my experiences with that place & other people's, but I rent & have too many outside animals as it was. There's no way that we could afford to give the mange to our other animals. He was the most obedient dog that I have ever seen. I pray that he don't get out to sleep. Also, inmates should be watched a lot closer than they are. He is always rough. The girls are as well. The workers lie. I went back looking for a stray dog that I brought there & I was told he was there waiting to get adopted but was not there. At that point, I was told that it went to "rescue". It was also the same day. I got scared because I was told how they do things around there. It needs some serious supervision. I don't agree with kill shelters PERIOD but they do euthanize there. I am not sure how often but they do. I despise the place.I apologize greatly for the size of this review but someone has to be their voice!!!! People need to open their mouths.

First shelter I have been in where dogs were attentive and wagging tails. They watched me intently and with interest, as if expecting a treat, some play time or a walk. Very few hiding themselves away. Perhaps this speaks of good treatment, lack if overcrowding, gentle handling from shelter staff. Animals even perked up when a shelter staff came in. It's a lovely facility, also. Nice to see a community that cares so well for its homeless animals. Would encourage licals to come in and increase play tine and interactions with pets here to increase any stress relief for these animals. Saw a dog and kitten adopted while I was here. Lucky animals and lucky homes where they are going.

Why is it a low income person can not get help getting an animal fixed when both husband and wife works and could get an animal fix. They tell if you do not get the animal from them they can't help. Well this couple didn't get their animal there. Is that humane? Some humane society. I'll keep the animals coming. If there was a zero on ratings I would give them one.

Took my son to look at the animals. We saw a kitten we may want to adopt. The animals looked like they could use a bath. Honestly even the little puppies were really dirty! Otherwise it looks as tho they are well cared for. We enjoyed our tour and were free to roam and look at the animals. No one bothered us or complained at us (even tho my son has ADHD and at times can be bouncing off the walls) they seemed to be pretty laid back and easy to consult if we needed help. There weren't as many animals as I'm used to seeing as I'm from a big city in ohio and this is in rural Kentucky. They could definately use some donations to hire some extra people to help care for the pets, and some supplies. They are a great little shelter and do a good job. My son had a great visit (altho he wanted every animal in the place to come home with us lol) and I felt like it was a humane place for the animals to be. That is what's most important.

We was lied to when we brought a hurt dog there from off the road side. We named him Blaze. We was coming back to adopt him because we was told we couldn't adopt him for 2 weeks due to him having the mange as well as other health problems. We called to check on him not even 48 hrs later & they said he was already adopted. That was a lie because he was ate up with the mange. I was told that he was put down. They LIE to ppl!!!!!Inmates from the jail also are on work release there & I seen with my own eyes how ROUGH the one inmate got with him. I will never make the mistake of taking another animal there. EVER!

One of the absolute best animal shelter I've ever step in, the employees are incredibly friendly and very helpful on questions and over all pet knowledge. If I had to say whats the best part of this place is how clean and tidy it is as well, I won't say nothing too bad about another certain establishment that also deals with strays in the neighboring area that isn't cleanly in the least but I wouldn't recommend any other place but here.👍

Absolutely horrible excuse for a shelter. I found a dog on the side of the road. This poor dog was skin and bones and covered in ticks and bugs. He didn't barely have the strength to eat the food I tried giving him. So I took him to the shelter less than 2 miles from where I found him and they said since I wasn't a county resident they couldn't take him and they also said they weren't taking in any animals. Just really thought the point of a shelter was to save animals.

Very pleasant people. I called ahead and they allowed me to bring in my Chihuahua to pick out a cat that gets along with him. They were very understaffed the day I went, and they still did an excellent job taking care of me.

I was donating to this shelter because the shelter really needed it, well at least for the dogs. These people were very rude to me& still are, yet I'm not doing it for the people who work at the shelter. I'm donating stuff for the dogs! I also saw a dog who was crying out for help...when a rescue team went to the shelter on a Saturday, the shelter was closed& he arrived there at 2:30pm. Doesn't it say that they're open till 4pm. They don't take this job seriously& treat it like it's just another job& that's it. I don't even believe that they actually even like working at the shelter!

Adopted a German Shepard mix 8 weeks old. My husband and I are sharing our new house and gave our almost 4 year old American Bully a sister. The hardest thing is picking out a name. Thank you pike county animal shelter!!!

I called them over a month ago and asked them to come and set traps in Broad Bottom because it is running over with strays. I was told they would be out the next day to speak to me. They took my address and number, and I've been waiting ever since. I've tried to call for two weeks and even on open business days I get the recording thatbsays they are closed on the first ring. How is it that they have inmates working there doing all the dirty work but we can't get them to do what they are supposed to do? I bet they get some kinda funding for the inmates that work there too. 0/10
