This vet clinic killed our dog! Do not take your animals here! Our dog had two different types of cancer for years (which we didn't know) and we were told it was fatty tissue, we continued to ask what was wrong and were told not to worry about it. When we took her to an ER vet clinic we were told she had a list of conditions that we didn't even know she had; heart murmur, mitral valve disease, anemia, and and that Den Herder was over medicating her, which made her bleed to death as well. When I asked to talk to the doctor the receptionist was a snot. We paid thousands of dollars, including medications, before going to the ER, thousands of dollars at the ER and then we were charged 400 dollars for her ashes!! Our dog was only 7 and the love of our life. No stars.Todd,Thanks for the response, however, I did just that. I contacted Dr. Garrett two days after we got home from Blue Pearl and left a message for him to call me and he never did. I called him again today and all he did was read Frankie's chart to me. Believe me, I have read the chart. She wasn't just a dog to us, she was my husband's emotional support dog since being back from Iraq. You all had us spend thousands of dollars on unnecessary medications and visits to your clinic and then the Blue Pearl ER Clinc, money we didn't necessarily have to spend in one week. When we got there it was obvious to them and us our dog was dying. How do you go from you all saying one day shes good to two days later she's dying?!? I hope nobody else has to go through the pain and suffering we have had to. Our two other dogs are heartbroken and won't eat at times without Frankie here, they have lost their alpha. The house doesn't know how to run. My husband is without his best friend and my 5 children are all heartbroken. You missed so many conditions, were over medicating, which aided in Frankie's death within a week after we noticed something wasn't right. I think it's time to brush up on some veterinarian care. All Dr. Garrett wanted to say was he didn't agree with the new findings from Blue Pearl. Very unprofessional and sad, sad, sad. Frankie was 7 and the love of our lives. Dr. Garrett said, "dogs die".

Everyone from the front desk to the vet was amazing and very nice. We just moved back to the area from Florida and needed to find a new vet. This was the first time in years after getting her vaccinations she wasn’t in pain, during the 24 hours after shots. I have definitely already told 5+ people how great the experience was.

I couldn't ask for a better and more helpful group of people. I trust them with my cats and am lucky to have such a great resource in town. They've been great about working us in if needed and are always willing to answer questions over the phone or through text/email.No bad experiences, would absolutely recommend.

Brought in my cat that recently decided he wanted to move in with me. Poor cat has an infection so we brought him in to be treated. I was treated with respect by all the staff. The shot of antibiotics they gave him has already helped this guy out. He’s already breathing better after 8 hours. I’m extremely thankful that they worked within my budget and even gave me print out estimate for his neuter. I’m thankful they were more concerned with getting his health in order before monetary gain of unnecessary tests/ X-rays/ surgeries. I will definitely be bringing my fur babies back to this office again.

Our sincere thanks and appreciation to Dr . Alicen and the entire staff for giving our Forrest exceptional care. The outcome was not what we had hoped but we went from an almost immediate appointment to an overnight stay then Dr. Alicen even took him for an early morning MRI. Our last moments with him were caring and compassionate and all about Forrest. We couldn't asked for a better team in a very sad situation. Thank you

My bearded dragon Zeus recently got really sick and I went into Den Herders to get him checked. Unfortunately, my beardie had Cancer and we had to put him down. I was so upset and tried my best to not cry in the business but I could not hold it back. They were very understanding and gave me as much time as I needed with him. They gave me a mold of his front feet with his name and they also sent me a letter in the mail expressing their condolences. I was never expecting to have a business care so much about their client. I appreciate them so much and Idk what I would have done without all their kindness and care. Thank you so much Den Herder and your amazing employees. This 5 stars is well deserved. ❤️

First off never ever purchase a Sago Palm if you have a pet.Long story short our cat ate a portion of a sago palm. I can’t thank and express how grateful we were for the care that Dr. Knudson gave to our cat. He went ABOVE and beyond. I could feel his passion/ care in his voice and by how he treated us.One of my favorite things was how Dr. Knudson explained everything in layman’s terms which allowed us to help make decisions along with Dr Knudson on the care for our cat. He took the time which I have never felt from another office before.Thanks for saving our cat and allowing him to have more birthdays!! ❤️

Lori was amazing she walked me through everything she was doing with my cats and gave me peace of mind. My cats took very well to her I do not see myself going to a different vet everyone was very sweet and put up with my one cat constantly howling because she was not happy! Very good with the animals, top notch care! The most expensive Vetrinary clinic in Waterloo,Iowa.appointments are sometimes difficult to get at certain times however the place is very clean and my dog seems to love going to his appointments.

I recently switched to Den Herder after years of going to a different vet. Within the first 6 months of being a patient, they’ve fixed my “mystery” pets! My old vet very much seemed to be one of those bad apples who were just in it to take money. At Den Herder they actually HELP and find permanent solutions. I love that they have multiple doctors on board so they can collaborate together and make sure nothing gets missed. I took my cat in with a problem thinking it was one thing, but turns out it was something else entirely that was found because they are so thorough and truly care about your pet! I now recommend Den Herder to all of my friends and family!

Love Dr Lori Cherney! She's been my ferret vet for years and now dog vet! All of the staff are extremely friendly and helpful, especially Rachel! I've had more than one late night emergency, and they have been phenomenal. Highly recommend this vet.

My first visit very friendly recommended by family members are taking their dogs. They’re a bit disappointed in the fact that there is no emergency dog clinic available in the Waterloo Cedarfalls area even though all of these vets around here post himself as emergency visits and contacts no way you can’t get any one to help you if you have an emergency with your pet and less you drive to Cedar Rapids. No kidding.

Best Vet in Black Hawk County. Dr. Lori is amazing. All the Vets there are wonderful and the staff is great. A little higher priced but well worth it. I want my animals to have the best care and if that is paying a little extra for that extra love and well-being care for my fur babies it's always worth it. I have been to other vets that basically told me my animal was dying. After going to Den Herber they have saved the life of not 1 but 2 of my babies. I will forever be grateful for their kind hearts and awesome vets who work above and beyond.

Posting for a second time because I’m pretty sure they had my first review blocked or removed which doesn’t surprise me.Original Review: “ If I could give this place zero stars I would. Took me awhile to write this on the account of me mourning my animal. I understand this is a business and they have to make money. However, they were not honest with us about the price of our treatment. When we expressed our frustration and lack of ability to pay, the whole staff’s demeanor towards us changed. The “head nurse” (think her name was Jan maybe or Joyce) was incredibly unprofessional, and callous. Thankfully my animal made a full recovery without their assistance. On a separate occasion I made the mistake of attempting to take my animal there again for assistance and they refused to service me and my animal. That animal ended up dying, because there were no other available vets at the moment. Again, I understand they have a right to refuse service. This experience was my own, but I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone that doesn’t have tons and tons of money to pay for additional costs that aren’t disclosed at the start of treatment.”

Extremely happy with our experience at Den Herder. Our long time local vet suddenly closed and recommended Den Herder. Our pup was already scheduled for spay surgery and they honored our original date and everything went perfectly. Both a nurse and Dr Garrett called after surgery to let me know how it went and how our pup was doing. Dr Garrett even called the following day to check in on her. Everyone is so nice and compassionate. I couldn't have asked for a smoother transition. Looking forward to continuing with Dr Garrett for years to come. Thank you!

I've been vetting here now for years! I am finally done. I've spent well over $2,000 already this year plus in the last 5 probably more than $9,000. I have missed 1 appointment a couple years ago and had to pay in advance twice because of it which is my fault I get it. But since I've never missed an appointment. I called today because my cat is sick and I need to get him in. We prefer Lori because she is amazing. She was not available for appointment so we booked with Sam. I explained that I was driving in the call and I will state that office staff has been rude a few times now, the lady I was talking to today told me that if I couldn't pre pay the visit then she can't book it. I have not had to pre pay in over 2 years. I've had at least 10 appointments with all my animals since then and have not had to pre pay. And I am driving I am not going to pull out my card while driving so I told them I am taking my service else where. This is not the first time office staff has been rude in how they say things or talk to people. I very been a good paying client for a long time now since before they moved to their new office and I'm sick of office staff thinking they can talk to people any type of way. I tell you I'm taking my animals elsewhere and your just happily saying okay... Seems like you don't even want to tey and keep your clients. VERY DISAPPOINTED in the way things are being handled.

Expensive but very good health care for pets. They are very thorough and seem to really care about the animals that they see. If you can afford it I highly recommend. But if you don't have the extra money, this place isn't very affordable. They do take care of animals that most places don't. I have a bearded dragon and it's hard to find a vet for him.

Very caring. Used their veterinary services. I had to have my cat put to sleep today. They have a very nice private room for you to be with your pet as long as you need. They explained everything that was going to.happen. I had 3 options as of what to do.with my kitty. Very caring and understanding.

Our vets office recently closed their doors. Our male German Shepherd Remington had an ear infection. We took him to Den Herder for the 1st time a few weeks ago. He has always been nervous in a vets office. He was nice and calm, tail not tucked between his legs and no whining!! Remington did absolutely amazing there. They also complimented us on how well behaved and how well he looked for being 8 years old!
