We stopped here while taking a break from a bike ride on the High Trestle Trail. It was a warm day, so ice cream hit the spot!It felt like the shop was either understaffed or didn't have enough equipment, as the wait time was longer than at most other ice cream shops I've visited.The soft serve machine also stopped working while we waited, so one of the people in our group had to choose another flavor and reorder, since chocolate wasn't available. The staff members were friendly, and the one who had to announce that the chocolate wasn't available was very apologetic.

My friend & I stopped here for some ice cream while we were riding the High Trestle Trail, and it was very refreshing. The counter service was convenient and efficient, and the outdoor patio was serviceable. I had a simple chocolate malt and it tasted above average, so I was pleasantly satisfied. Prices are reasonable as well. It was just a couple of blocks off of the trail, so definitely worth the stop.

This is a small town gem. I work in Luther and am always telling people to stop here on their way back to Des Moines. They have some pretty unique flavors as well. The scotcharoo and banana split were a couple of pur favorites. I also really like the cake batter and oreo combo. They are dog friendly and have a water bowl out front for your furry friends too! Highly recommend!

They were busy but still served us quickly. Picnic tables all around. Walk-up window for ordering. Ice cream only.. soft serve and regular ice cream. No drinks. Reasonable prices especially compared to big name ice cream places.

Love this little ice cream shop! We make a trip here at least once a week in the summers and drive all the way from Ames. My girls LIBE the Superman ice cream. Never tried anything we didn’t like.

The ice cream here is absolutely amazing! It is the perfect small town, mom and pop, ice cream shop. We called to see if it was open due to some local power outages and I told the owner we were on coming from Ames. He called me back about five minutes later to give me alternate directions due to some working being done on the highway. That’s amazing customer service!!

A true gem! One of the best ice cream spots in Central Iowa. The service is always great and they even have a bowl of water for dogs. We love this spot and wish it was closer!

Stopped after hiking at Ledges. Service was quick and polite. Was thrilled to see they had my favorite, a Kit Kat flurry. However, when I took my first bite, there was bits of caramel in it. To the best of my knowledge, there is no caramel in a Kit Kat. When I asked the person at the window, she insisted it was a Kit Kat and we were done. So, whatever I got was tasty, but it wasn't what I ordered and no attempt was made to solve my concern. Probably won't be back as either the equipment wasn't properly cleaned or the staff doesn't know what a Kit Kat is.

Most amazing shakes I've had since leaving Marshalltown! Love the friendly service and outdoor seating! Even in the rain it is a joy to go to. Sometimes the teenagers can be a little overwhelming, but I would rather that be here instead of getting into trouble doing who knows what. Thank you Filling Station for a great summer pastime!

Quaint little ice cream shop in downtown Madrid (Iowa). Wild hand packed ice cream flavors including "Superman" "chocolate peanut butter" and "Birthday cake". Soft serve vanilla and chocolate (or swirled), blizzard-like concoctions, malts, waffle cones...

It is always nice to have a scoop of ice cream at a local shop! If I could change one thing, it would be to have their "scoop" ice cream, colder. I know it's probably harder to scoop out, but that ultra sub-zero ice cream is the best!

They make malts!! A good variety of flavors. They also have flurries. I think there is something for everyone. Out door seating. Polite staff. Go check it out!

Great place to stop and grab some ice cream on your bike ride through Madrid. You just have to go up to the window and state what you want; the building design isn't the most welcoming, but the people are!

Their turtle sunday was delish!! Their pup cup was the cutest thing ever and HUGE!!!
