We were hoping for a quintessential American diner experience, and I suppose we succeeded, as it was a mixed bag of good and mediocre. First of all, the counter service was great. The young man was extremely polite and good at his job. Our lunches came out fast, too, in about 10 minutes. My husband and son had chicken tenders and fries, with cheese on my son’s fries. They thought it was just okay. My grilled chicken wrap was mostly good, the chicken especially, but there was a black-mottled lettuce leaf and some of the chopped onion pieces were size of my thumbnail. I didn’t eat those. Most tragic of all, the cheese curd dish was very small for $6 and they weren’t quite hot enough, so they were dense with no pull or squeak. While the adjoining store and bakery looked interesting, we have zero interest in stopping at a Maid-Rite again.

My wife and I stopped here for lunch. This site is attached to an Amish store. We both had a chicken sandwich, the menu note it is a local favorite, and for good reason! The chicken is battered, lightly, and I think deep-fried. The bun is a soft, wonderful chabia roll. You chose what you want on it. We had tomatoes, pickles, mayo, and lettuce. We also had an order of potato tots hot and yummy. If you are driving by this, it could be a really nice stop.

Awesome experience at this location. This was our first time trying Maid-rite, the loose burger thing sounded really fun. We got the signature loose burger with onions, pickles and mustard. I liked it more than expected, the beef tasted good with the toppings and everything about the burger just worked really well. The beef was the right amount of lean and not greasy. Would definitely get it again if there were locations in Kansas City, Missouri. Their fried okra were awesome and cooked perfectly. The staff were really nice, and the service was prompt. Their pies are also very delicious! Didn’t get to try their giant cinnamon rolls but maybe next time.

Saw and article to try this place out. The only thing you want to try that is better than average is the maid-rite loose meat sandwich. Mega rite is just extra meat. Try other combinations. My wife got the taco salad and it was only decent. Bonus star for the Amish bakery and store.

Travelers need not wait long after crossing the border into Iowa to enjoy an Iowa classic, the loose-meat sandwich known locally as a Maid-Rite. Served traditionally with your choice of ketchup, mustard, and perhaps pickles or cheese, the sandwiches are simple, yet filling. You can get pop or a milkshake to compliment your meal. I stop by here at least once a week. Friendly staff, delicious home cooked style food, and can spend an hour wandering around the store. So much to see, so little time. Overall, two thumbs up in my book. I recommend the XL pulled pork sandwich.

People let's greet your customers in a fashion that is pleasant. We stood at the counter 9 minutes and never git a response until we asked if you were open just to have you say don't sit at the counter!We own restaurants in Des Moines and Lake Panorama and work our tails off for quality service and presentation. Sent email to Maid Rite Corporate that you need re trained here or the owner needs to revisit your skill set. Your poor demeanor is nit an attractive trait.

Totally different to childhood Maid-Rites. The memory is simple: ground beef (80/20), grated onion and salt. Here it is half inch squares of onion and I got the works on my sandwich; ketchup mustard and pickle. "She" told me later I should have had it plain . . .This store is one with an Amish Gift Shop. Every child gauged toy, puzzle, science and gadget is available here. Order food at the counter, they bring it out to you.I enjoyed the experience.

Just passing through the area I was extremely happy to find a location that was open and serving folks inside their eating establishment. Good for you all not cowing down to all this mania!👍 The good was good, the service was quick and the ability to come in off the road, sit down and eat at a table was very welcome! The gift shop is expansive and has quite a selection.

ATE ONE IN AND DINED OUT TOO. I CAN EAT A MAID-RITE ON THE ROAD WITHOUT SPILLING ONE MORSEL OF BEEF BITE ON THE FLOOR OF MY CAR OR DRIVERS'S SEAT! THAT IS A SPECIAL IOWAN SKILL! I LIKE MINE WITH KETCHUP, MUSTARD, & SWEET RELISH (NOT ALWAYS AVAILABLE, DISAPPOINTING, AT THE DINERS!) GREAT TASTE! I'M SALAVATING NOW JUST WRITING ABOUT THEM! CHOC SHAKE AND FRIES/ONION RINGS AND A ROOTBEER SMALL CHASER! Mmmmm Outstanding!(Years ago, they said if you weren't offered a Spoon wt your sandwich, you were given the burger for free!) TOO COSTLY TO DO NOW! HAH!

My grilled chicken was the worst sandwich I have ever had! No flavor and super dry! I couldn't even finish it. And apparently they leave their squirt ketchup sitting out overnight and our bottle was starting to turn rancid so I went and asked for to go packets of ketchup so I knew my ketchup would be fresh! Price was way too expensive for the quality of food.

Stopped in on way back to Des Moines from Texaa and 4 people working yet nobody came to counter to assist. No wonder why this company is losing franchise owners. Harf to get smart help!No help no food. Bought candy in the general store and stopped at Arby's in Osceola up the interstate.

I've been wanting to come here for half my life and -- IT WAS TOTALLY WORTH IT! One of the highlights of my road trip. Really enjoyed the ambience of the location. Service was great and quick, and the place was very clean, even after an obvious lunch rush. Bathrooms were also tidy. This is a great stop if you're on the road and want something regionally unique and tasty.

We loved the shop attached to the maid rite & decided to eat there. Very nice, large room plenty of tables. We always love maid rite but the food we ordered, burger & chili was way overpriced for what we got my husband had hardly any meat on his burger & the chili was not good at all, which I don’t usually order chili at maid rite but it was $8 for a very small foam bowl! Actually, would have been fine if my husband would have gotten an actual burger with some meat on it! Anyway, we left a little perplexed & went home & ate…. $20 not well spent

If you haven’t had a loose meat sandwich, you owe it to yourself to give Iowa original a try. Make sure you grab a spoon because the meat will end up falling out. We missed the turn to the parking lot because the sign doesn’t face the road. It is attached to the Amish Country Store and their sign is easy to see.

Tenderloin was very good. Milkshakes are excellent! We had 5 people in our group and we had quick, friendly service. Restaurant is attached to a nice Amish store.A very short distance from Interstate 35, which makes this place a nice alternative to the typical fastfood stops along an interstate.

Easy to find as soon as you enter the state from Kansas. Located in connection with the Iowa welcome center and country store, complete with buggy parking. Lots of great food and exceptional service. Many handmade products and items at the connected store. Amish horse and buggies all around the area make it a sightseeing adventure!

I’ve ate at Naid Rites for 50 years. The Mega Rite is anything but a mega rite. Less ground beef than any Maid Rite sandwich I’ve ever had. I have been stopping at this one for 15 years every few months and the amount of ground beef is less. I get the price has increased but the sandwich shouldn’t. I won’t be stopping again at this Maid Rite

Ordered a blue cheese rite and fried pickles. The girl that delivered it literally threw it on the table. The meat was dry and old with (not exaggerating) 2 small pieces of blue cheese on it (less than a dime size combined). Pickles weren't even cooked and when I asked for the ranch I ordered, I got rolled eyes and a sigh and was told they would have to make it. Also, I got less than a half cup full of sweet tea as they were out of that also. Won't be back unfortunately. Definitely wouldn't recommend.

Great sandwich. Not your average fast food greasy gut bomb. The meat is seasoned perfectly and moist but not greasy. Can't wait to stop again.
