I was arrested driving through Denison and they took my dog to the pound. When I was finally able to pick him up he was covered in urine and feces. The smell was unbearable. The lady who worked here was nice but that's the only plus from this situation... Obviously they don't keep the kennels clean and they must not pick up feces.

Went there once to see if they could help a very young family of bunnies that got dug out of their home while doing some landscaping. Was the first time I had ever been inside. The place is dirty stinks to high heaven is cluttered to no end and the cats I seen running loose all had runny eyes matted in the corners and the overall appearance of the animals was very dirty. They didn't take the bunnies but she did give me a little bit of powdered milk/formula and a dropper so that I could feed the bunnies myself. Just from the smell and appearance of the animals that were there I would not consider adopting from there for fear of fleas or any animal illness that may or may not be on the property. If your looking to adopt I would go to a bigger city and stay clear of this place.

It's a City owned Pound. The woman running it seems friendly enough, but I don't think she has the animal's best interest at mind. It guess the name does say 'Pound' not rescue/shelter..but you'd assume there would be better care. The pens are always filthy, she's only there an hour or so a day. She's the dog groomer for a Veterinarian's office, but a lot of the 'hairy' dogs are in poor conditions; as a groomer you'd think she'd know the importance of keeping the hair un-matted for the sake of sanitary issues and pure comfort of the dog.She refuses to hire help, or take volunteer work; the animals never are walked from what I've seen. I've been told she'll do "under the table" type of sales if it's a pet she thinks she can get more money for. It seems she'll put all the animals to sleep if she desires to go on vacation. She placed so many rules on how she'll take a dog or a cat. I just started taking strays/rescue animals to Omaha/Council Bluffs, I feel driving a bit further is better whether your giving or receiving an animal.
