What a wonderful little local business. They have always been more than great helping out with anything I have needed. If they didn't have it and were able to order it they did. Great selection of push mowers, snow blowers, weed eaters, and other supplies. They also fill propane for like $20.

It’s nice to have this neighborhood store for hardware and propane. But I don’t recommend them for repair service. I took two snowblowers in for a tuneup in mid October. I was told 2+ weeks and was fine with that. In two weeks I was called that I had a blower ready for pickup. I asked if there were two ready?The young gal calling became very irritated and stated she had already called everyone who had blowers ready. I explained I had two there dropped at the same time but, was treated rudely and told they would call when it was done.Third week in I stopped and talked to the employee at the front on Saturday. They located the blower and said it was probably waiting for parts. It wasn’t.On Monday following I stopped and talked to the repair guy,and he tells me they are 3 weeks out and they will get to it.Called on the 4th week out and told them I wanted to check on a repair. They said they were 3 weeks out on repair. I said mine has been there 4 weeks. He asked for my name and I told him. He confirmed it was still there and they would get to it. I pressed to try to get a date when and was told he had stuff there from September he still was working on.Today I’m going to return and pick it up without being repaired. I will no longer be shopping at this hardware.

Personal service that I don't think you'll find many other places. The employee came outside to look at our RV with us and figure out what part we needed to fix a propane leak. That was extremely kind, professional, and helpful. Got the part fixed for about $5. Thank you again!

The manager was very helpful when finding a replacement trimmer head for my gas trimmer. Even opened up a couple different packages to find the kit that fit best for my model! When I’m in Ankeny this place will be a go too store.

My rating is actually a 4.5. I love going to this location. I generally like the staff. Usually helpful and knowledgeable and reminds me of going to our hardware store in my hometown when I was a kid/teenager. Some things are sl pricey but customer service is def worth it. They will keep getting my business as it is local and would strongly recommend to any citizen of Ankeny.

If you want a small home feel, give this place a try. It’s family owned and operated and the staff is very friendly. Randy is always there and willing to help you find anything. Their small engine department is top notch also, however you need to plan ahead because they are very popular.Supper the local businessman and shop here.

Called first week of October to schedule snowblower for service and asked if they did pick up/delivery. Told would be a week or so as still working on mowers. Followed up weekly but no one called back with info on pick up each time. Then today (month later) they tell me that if someone brings one in, they go before me and not sure when might be around to pick up. Would not even verify if they still had my ticket back there. Lady was super snotty. Guess I need to look for alternatives. Whatever happened to good customer service?

Have used Ankeny Hardware for the past 20 years and have not had one bad experience. I have a few easy repairs done at the shop over the years and have had no issues. Very knowledgeable staff, especially with sometimes obscure home projects. Most times their input save time and effort doing these projects. Thanks Scott

For years now I have chosen to shop at Ankeny Hardware instead of the big box stores. The staff are usually friendly and helpful. I will no longer support them, however, since none of the employees wear any type of face covering. How well do they really care for their customers? Not much, apparently.

I've been going to Ankeny Hardware ever since we moved to our home in Ankeny, IA in 1999. I believe way back when I first started going to this store, it was actually a Ace Hardware. I love supporting local businesses and everyone there have been very nice and helpful. The prices could be a little lower, but overall I really like coming here instead of going to the big box store's like Lowes and Home DePot. I will continue to go to my local hardware as long as they keep their doors open, are helpful, friendly and the prices don't get outrageous.

Had to replace my snow blower during a heavy snowstorm this year. Staff was busy putting together blowers but still had time to treat me right. They delivered and were in the same ballpark as the big box stores who couldn't match their service.

I was very upset with their lawn mower service. I took my mower in to get serviced and got it back a week later. When I used it the same day I picked it up and died after a few minutes. I called them and they said I would have to bring it back. They said I could borrow their mower, but I’d have to return it after use. That was nice, but not efficient on my end. I took the mower back. They said they would put me on the top of the list and I’d get it back ASAP. I didn’t get a call until after a week. I went to get the mower once the weather was warmer. I asked if everything was good now and they confirmed. I used the mower and it died again. I called them and they said the same thing - I’d have to return it to get it checked and I could borrow their mower. I am beyond upset with their lawn mower service. I would not recommend them.

Great store, and excellent service! The staff is extremely knowledgeable, they just know the details of what they are selling, without having to usually look things up, which is common at the big box stores. Very friendly staff as well---Great job!

I walked in today and was greet by Tom, who was not helping any other customers. I asked to have some keys made and Tom responded that it was going to get very busy with customers soon so I would have to come back another time. I was confused because he was standing around doing nothing at the time, and I was indeed a customer. When I questioned him further as to why he couldn't help me, he told me that it was not his priority right now. I was totally shocked at how rude and dismissive, and unprofessional he was! Tom walked off without helping me, but I was helped by the owner. He was curtious and helpful, but said absolutely nothing about the behavior he had just witnessed from his employee. I can't imagine this is the kind of employee that anyone would tolerate. Totally unacceptable. You just lost my business! I would recommend that others do what Tom told me I should do--go to Home Depot or Walmart! So disappointed in Ankeny Hardware...

So glad they became a UPS pick up place. Every time I walk in this store, the people, atmosphere and even the smells make me want to take my time and just take it in. Easy-going and forever patient and helpful people. They make it easy to forget that Ankeny's growth has become a bit overwhelming for older folks.

Don't get your propane refilled here. They have great customer service but they are WAY more expensive then all the other places I have been to. They charge you like you are buying a new tank just for a refill. Normally I pay around $60ish to get my propane tanks refilled. This place charged me over $90!I guess I should have asked cost before I got my tanks filled, but i was just so use to places being around the same price...learned my lesson... I wont be going back to them..

I love going here. They've usually got what I need and the staff is helpful. I've rented equipment and bought lawncare products. I'll only travel to the box stores if I need a specialty item.

I have been looking for a new mower for awhile. I stopped by the Toro display at the Iowa State Fair. I talked to Rich from Ankeny Hardware about what I was looking for. He was very nice and knowledgeable on the mower I was looking. My wife and I decided to purchase a SS5000 Toro mower from his business. He and his entire team at Ankeny Hardware may my purchase experience very simple and fast. I recommend Ankeny Hardware to everyone.

Wow! Rich helped me not only find the correct hardware but even helping me mount it. I will never go to another hardware store if I can help at these big corporations like Home Depot and Lowe’s don’t even care about you enough to answer a question this is the route to go for sure

Would give ZERO stars if I could! Talked to some kid about renting a sod cutter, he told me they had one available. I drove all the way there only to find out they didn't. He apparently didn't know how to read the log...and then an older guy looked it up and then proceeded to basically tell me too bad! And when I asked if he even had any idea as to when it would be available, he just said "nope, you're just gonna have to come back and check again.". I certainly will not, nor will you get a penny of my money for anything in the future! Such a poorly run place!

Ankeny Hardware rocks!! You get that small town feel as soon as you walk in the door, and the next time you come back they remember you. They carry great brands, Toro and Stihl. I would much support the little man than the big box stores!

When I walked into the store the first thing i noticed is that NONE of the employees was wearing any kind of PPE (face masks, gloves, anything). With the COVID-19 pandemic in full swing this was shocking. As the parent of a child who has a tracheostomy and is on a ventilator, this kind of disregard to the health and safety of it's customers is absolutely unacceptable. I specifically chose a local store because I figured they need the business but if they aren't going to support public health I'm not going to support them.

Staff is friendly and gets you right to what you need. Can match bolts, screws, without having to second guess. They are the first place I go when I need to match. Make perfect keys also.
