UPDATE: Nothing was resolved, she blamed having to bring her kid in because 2 employees were sick, I’m sure there were other employees who could have came in. Now my friend, her boyfriend, along with mine are now sick ALL with the same thing.Extremely upset with the management, I feel like we would have gotten a better outcome had I called the owner. NEVER coming back to this store.Nice store! Kinda pricey but it is also a tack shop. Decent customer service till the past weekend. I had purchased an item and the cashier rang my card once two many times, which proceeded with fraud calls from my bank. Then it said the amount went through when their card reader said it didn’t, cashier then had to call up their frantic manager with a sick kid to help. She then set her kid (around 4yrs old) on the counter and proceeded to take my card, out of her moms hand, bending over the counter in our faces (after we had already stepped back), coughing at us and deliberately blowing in our faces. My friend got sick a day after and is running a high grade temperature and cannot even get out of bed.With my card situation it did not charge me twice but she did say she was going to follow up to make sure it didn’t and never called when she said she was. She didn’t call me until my friend wrote a review.After my friend wrote a review, she repetitively called her and left voice mails each time, knowingly she was sick.They never once asked us for a discount, or any incentive to go back. I suppose it’s time to find a better tack store.

Love this store have always had a great experience until over this past week. Totally understand when things happen and you need to make things work. However, bringing a sick kid into your public work place isn’t the wises idea. The manager had brought her sick daughter in and as we were checking out she was on the counter crawling and making a scene. She fought over our debit card with her mom and said “I’ve got a runny nose and cough I’m going to make you sick.” And she indeed did, I currently have a 101 degree temp. It was very frustrating and unprofessional.

Nice store with a huge selection of western wear and riding gear. Employees were great but tried a bit TOO hard to be helpful. A little pricey, but not out of line for the quality of goods they carry. Location isn't excellent - in an industrial park off a frontage road from Rt. 30 outside Ames city limits. Lots of parking on a gravel lot.

Absolutely awesome!!! I was apprehensive to buy online but they had a hat I was looking for in stock. Unfortunately their inventory was off and I got an email a couple hours after placing my order. I emailed them expecting no reply and my money to be gone. Definitely not the case. A few minutes later I got an email from Ashley apologizing for the error and informing me it would ship in 10 to 14 days as soon as they got their shipment. A few days later I was emailed that it shipped. When I received the hat it was like the one pictured except the pin on the hat band. Small detail but to me it was important so I replied to Ashley. She thanked me for allowing them to correct the order and mailed me the correct pin. WOW you just don't get service like that these days!!! Awesome!!!!

My husband purchased a few items for me ahead of vacation. He specifically asked at time of purchase if he could return them as I wasn’t there to try on. Today (less than 2 weeks later) he went to return and is now told they can only put it on store credit? He wouldn’t have purchased the tops had they told him this to begin with. Highly frustrating to have the policy suddenly change 2 weeks later. This policy needs to be clearly communicated and posted, and honestly it’s a horrible policy and we will not be shopping here in the future.

A very well stocked western appeal. To horse horse accessories bridles halters exedra. My thoughts were they were pretty pricey if you're willing to pay anywhere between 45 and $80 for a shirt and forty-five $95 for a pair of jeans then you're in the right place. Other than that the store was well kept up employees were good at their job ,very nice and helpful.

Update: the owner Melanie reached out to me and we discussed this issue she was very understanding and listened to my concerns. Overall I felt i was listened to with my concerns and fell they will be addressed.Very disappointed in my most recent experience with them. Ordered a helmet in store because they didn't have the size i needed. Wrong helmet was ordered. No big deal. Told them i needed it by a certain date and Humboldt location said they would get it to ames first part of the week. First talked to them 4/21 so assumed it would be there by 4/26 never her anything so called Friday 4/28. Was told again it would be there beginning of that upcoming week. Again Wednesday 5/3 rolls around hadnt herd anything call again and then was told it hadn’t shipped from the manufacturer yet but when it ships shouldn’t take more then a week but I informed them the first time i called that the last time i had to pick up the helmet from was Saturday 5/6. So i asked if i could come return it and i would order it elsewhere. They said yes but kept repeating how it was out of their control which i totally understand. It was the fact i was lead to believe humbolt had them and they were getting one to ames for me to pick up. But then wasnt told until the 3rd time i called that they hadn’t even shipped from manufacturer. Anyways I ordered else where was delivered Friday so Saturday i went and returned the other one. The gal upfront who i had talked to more then once was kind of rude through out the whole situation mind you i was polite. Again I understand not their fault. I was more frustrated with the lack of communication. But also frustrated when i got to the store to return it and they wanted to put my return onto a gift card because they were “trying to get away from putting money back on the persons card” so beware if you try to return anything. (Didnt see that policy listed anywhere and also wasn’t told that on the phone) but at the end of the day i was able to return and get it credited back to my card. Also later that day i was called to be informed my helmet did arrive in a not so pleasant manner from the same gal that did our return. Overall not a very pleasant experience and disappointed in the communication not so much the fact that the helmet wasn’t correct.

The staff here is so friendly and helpful! I work for ISU, and there were some minor issues with the tax exempt portion on my receipt. Shelby did a fantastic job helping me out with it, and getting everything figured out. She went above and beyond to help me out.I also love shopping here for my western wear, horse tack needs, and some of my show cattle needs. I can't say enough good things about this store and the staff that work here!

Made my first visit here last week, and I'm very impressed. If you're looking for anything related to western wear or tack, this is the place to go. If they don't have it, you probably don't need it. Super friendly staff too, which is icing on the cake. I will be back!

First time we were there. The staff was very friend and knowledgeable. We are new to having horses although my wife and I have ridden before. We had a bunch of questions and saddles and bits and everyone was extremely helpful. We will definitely be going back to purchase more things we need.

Huge selection of western items and horse tack. Love the higher selection of shoes and boots. Wished they carried larger women's clothes sizes though. Fantastic customer service.

Purchased a coat, got it home and noticed that a snap was missing. Went to return and was told it was a clearance item and nothing they could do about it. I didn’t know they put clearance in with the regular merchandise let alone put out defective merchandise. It’s very small writing on the tag if it is non-refundable. The employee said most people don’t realize it’s written on the tag and they don’t usually mention it to the customer. I will no longer shop there. Never had this type of service with Cavenders.

This store is one of my favorite western stores. They are well stocked with tack, western wear, and lots of saddles. They’ve got a great selection of footwear, belts, and even some nice furniture. The staff has always been friendly and knowledgable. I highly recommend a visit to this particular store, it’s well worth the drive.

They have a very large selection of boots like you won't find in the area. I've been here multiple time and there was always more to see in there selection. They also have a large selection of decor with look great. My favorite item is a belt I got there 11 years ago and still wear. Great place to stop when looking for some Western flare.

Only complaint: they are in one of the hottest COVID spots and don't require masks. Staff didn't wear them when we were there, so won't be an option for a while :(Room to park and turn around your truck and trailer which is super nice. They offer saddle fitting and trials which is great for hard-to-fit horses. Prices are average, sales and deals on new stuff are usually in the 10-20% range; but understandable since they have the widest and best selection around. Staff is helpful and friendly. Consignment is hit or miss so you just have to keep an eye out. Can find good deals on used saddles, just depends on what people decide to bring in.

Unique items, found my grandsons moccasins there. They found them for me at one of their other locations. Got them in time for Christmas. Very nice and very responsive. Called as soon as they came so Igot them in time for Christmas. Thanks!!

Live 2 hours away but will drive to Ames just for the friendly service and vast selection. Have purchased many things from the store, at shows, online, and both locations. Never had a bad experience, and prices are cheaper than other western stores. Been a loyal customer for over 10 years.

Great selection of "normal size" boots/s*** kickers (7-12 in mens), unfortunately they have very few pairs of 13, 14, 15. They have a decent stock of horse blankets that are cheap ($15) to "fancy" ($30). I have not looked too in depth, but the also appear to have a decent saddle selection with some even having some serious bling on the straps. I would recommend to people that want or need a new pair of boots that have a lower to medium budget.

Very large selection of Western wear and accessories. Don't look too poor when you go in there. We went as a family so my husband could get new work boots and someone kept an eye on me and the kids, and my husband the whole time. Not in a nice helpful way either, they seemed shocked we could afford boots.The boots themselves did not even last six months. And began to start coming apart within a month.If you like the western style, I totally recommend this place. If you are looking for traditional functional western wear, you might need to go on a road trip and head west.

Helpful staff with an incredible selection of boots. Also consignment shop for all things Western upstairs. I bought a beautiful pair of Corral boots on clearance. They offer boot stretching too.
