We enjoyed terrific service, wonderful food, and a cozy ambience at the Ox Yoke Inn. They offer a family style option, with refills on family favorites, but we ordered from the menu, and shared a meal. It was delicious - and plenty of food!We are unfamiliar with German food, and we ordered Spaetzle just to try it. (Insider tip: it’s probably more enjoyable when you order gravy to eat with it. Now we know!)We made several purchases before leaving the restaurant, including local maple syrups. We would definitely eat at the Ox Yoke Inn again, if we’re in Amana Colonies.

The service and all the staff were wonderful. I would check their Facebook page before making the trip to see what their menu for the day will be. The Sunday before we were thrilled with the brunch. This Sunday the food was good we just enjoyed it more the weekend before. They kept fresh food coming out right up until it was time for the brunch to shut down both weekends. Needless to say the food is fresh, service is excellent and it is well worth the drive.

If you long for the days of yesteryear serving food as only your German mother could prepare, this is the place. Great food. Great service. Great atmosphere.Parking: Plenty of level parking with wheelchair ramp.

I had a party of three walk-in at around 4:00 PM on a Saturday. We were sat in the spacious "founder's room," which had one table occupied. The hostess was nice but our waitress did not seem to want to be there. We were asked about drinks and given the menus. There is a great selection of dishes: sandwiches, salads, soup, schnitzel, and other meat dishes. My table had pretzel bites which were tasty. The entrees came in about 20 minutes. The portions are very generous. However, everyone at my table agreed that their meal was too salty. Additionally, one member of my table never received her side dish she ordered at extra cost, we had to have the waitress redo the bill because she did not notice and never checked in after we were served. We opted not to do the $7 dessert because of the overly salted main dishes. Would it work in a pinch? Sure, but do I want to go back? Definitely not. Also, when I went to use the women's restroom upstairs the stalls had no locks, just shudder style doors, which of course, I am not keen on!

The optioned to have a family style with assorted choices which all were delicious. We ordered fried chicken and fried catfish. Both were cooked perfectly with a nice crispy breading. It was well worth the drive to have a great meal !Parking: We went during early afternoon and there was plenty of parking

We had a group of 8 and everyone really enjoyed what they ordered. I had the Wiener Schnitzel and it was excellent and the sides were just as good. The kids in our group all found something and really liked it. Would definitely go again!Kid-friendliness: Plenty of options for the kids.

I only gave the food one-star because 0-star was not an option. It's a sad day when the potatoes served in Amana taste & texture of canned potatoes. It's Mother's Day weekend, so they only had a buffet. Little flavor except overly sweet, and blah.Even worse was the unsmiling hostess. We had one person who is very limited on what he will eat. The server actually sighed when we asked if we could order a cheeseburger for him. His fries were the best thing we had.

Outstanding food!!! One of the best meals I've ever had. The main course and the sides were all top notch. Absolutely worth the drive! Our server Lisa is the best server we've ever had. She thought of EVERYthing and went way above and way beyond what was required or expected. She didn't miss a beat.A classic rock cover band was playing in the basement level and provided a quiet level of entertaining music that didn't make it difficult to speak at a normal conversation level. Highest recommendations!!!

I have been going to the Amana’s for forty years and the “great family style restaurant” phase is over. The service was terrible and the food was terrible. Instead of bringing out the first round of food and letting us eat, we waited for 20 mins then everything came out at once. The gravy for the mash potatoes had green beans in it, the mash potatoes had purple stains in them, and the sauerkraut had corn in it…now I know they are making food in mass quantity in the kitchen and food can get in where it is not supposed to be (like a fry in onion rings) but it definitely gave vibes of food being re-served. We also had kids with and they wanted some our beats and the waiter made a big to do about them having to order separate. They are little kids, and they made us order this huge thing of beats as a side because they could not eat the leftover beats that we had ordered. And pie is not included anymore, it is an extra charge. I am sorry to say it, as the I know the Brick Haus and Colony Inn are now closed and the Ox Yoke is one of the only remaining restaurants, but the great food of the Amanas is a thing of the past. Absolutely horrible experience, sadly will never go back.

Stopped here for dinner after walking around the Amana colonies. We each ordered fried chicken, pork chops and a Parmesan crusted walleye. We ordered their family style menus and had beets, green beans, corn, mashed potatoes and gravy, cottage cheese, and a broccoli salad to share. The sides are refillable but the portions are so big we had to take out some with the first batch. The entrees were all very good too. They had a variety of pies and cakes and we had a good slice of rhubarb strawberry pie.

Good place to dine while visiting the Amana Colonies! Great service and a large variety of German & American food.Nearby activities: Lots of small shops to visit like The furniture factory, Millstream Brewery, fudge store, a rock shop, etc.Walkability: Everything is within walking distance in this Colony.Food & drinks: Authentic German & American food can be enjoyed at several restaurants.

Update 08-NOV-2023I've stopped by Amana colonies a few times since my last update and each time have had lunch here. Can't eat as much as before so have selected plates meals but is still a good amount of food. Service and food have been consistent and am looking forward to the next time I visit.DEC-2019When visiting Amana Colonies this is the place I like to have lunch. Family style is a few dollars more but the unlimited sides are all delicious. I like the veal schnitzel that comes with spatzel. Waiters are nice and food comes out quick.

To be honest it was just OK. Chicken was over cooked, and sides were simple and bland. Def not worth $19. I will say the bar downstairs was really the star of the experience.

Good tasting food, good amount so bring your hunger! Spatzle with cheese and bacon, Ruben burger, and open-faced roast beef with mashed potatoes and gravy were very enjoyable for our meal. It wasn't crowded, but did make reservations when we got there for a time that suited us. Only had one waitress by that time, she had her hands full, so I didn't get to try the excellent looking dessert tray with many choices of pies and cakes...darn, maybe next time!

It's been years since my family has been to Ox Yoke Inn. Not as great as I remember as a kid but wasn't horrible either. Not busy at all at 5pm on a Monday night (Halloween). One order was for the oven baked steak and we got pot roast. My sirloin was cooked to perfection, no complaints. The corn tasted old or overcooked, potatoes and gravy were good. The service was lacking, by the time the server got to us to order drinks, we were ready to order everything. Food came out fairly quick, server came to check up once, then we waited & waited & waited for our server to come back. For not being very busy, I feel the server should've been more attentive. Finally got our bill and take out containers.

On our visit to Amana Villages, we stopped by this restaurant and were not disappointed. We asked the waitress what her favorite dish was and she said the Jager Schnitzel. That's what I got. It was amazing and the pork was so juicy! All the other foods looked so good and the service was great. The place was clean and showed the 1800s setting really well. Highly recommended.

My family has been coming to Amana since late 50s and I have been coming off and on since 80s and it was always amazing food and service but this is the first time I have been back in at least a decade or two and it was not the same. Food is still really good except the family style dinner came with salad n ranch not coleslaw. Walleye was good. The service was poor as our waiter was pushy and forgetting everything. We ordered a salad to share with ranch and he brought that last which was very frustrating as it should of came out with bread and cottage cheese. The hostess staff were nice but talking in front of customers about how it sucks they are so busy and "over it". Our margaritas were very good. This was my husbands first time in Amana and he was disappointed with his restaurant experience.

Dined for the 1st time in over 10 years at the Ox Yoke Inn in Amana on Tuesday. We arrived just before noon and were seated immediately. I must say, the place appeared to not have changed much over the years, as we first dined there over 40 years ago. The building, both inside and out still has the "old world" charm to it, everything seemed clean and tidy, and after driving there for nearly 2hrs., I actually checked out the men's room first. You know we include reviews of the facilities in our reviews, as we believe it VERY important for businesses to have clean restrooms for travelers. The Ox Yoke Inn scored a 5 star rating on cleanliness. As for the food...Suzie was our waitress, and she took care of us from start to finish. It's obvious that she had worked there for some time, and we appreciated her answering questions that we had.The Ox Yoke Inn offers 2 kind of" plates," and I'll copy portions of those explanations from their website menu:Plated Special: includes one serving of potatoes, gravy, vegetable, dinner roll and Ox Strawberry Jam, except where noted. No refills.Family Style Dinners, which include: "refillable Cottage Cheese with Chives, Salad of the Day, Vegetable, Potatoes and Gravy, Bread Basket and our Ox Strawberry Jam. Sauerkraut and Pickled Beets upon request. All leftovers are discarded. Refills may not be carried out."I had the Rueben Sandwich with Onion Rings (pic included,) my wife had a bowl of Chili, and her sister had the Roast Beef Dinner - plated. We all had desserts, and my choice was the German Chocolate Cake. Folks, this took me back some 50 years when my Mom made it. Yeah, it was that good. So, Ox Yoke Inn here's our grades for ya on this REALLY nice Fall day:Cleanliness: 5 stars.Staff (especially Suzie): 5 stars.Food: 5 stars.Keep it up!Parking: PLENTY of parking in the rear.

We went to the ox yoke yesterday to celebrate my son's confirmation. We had a large party, and I asked for a private room so we would not be distrubed. We were put into an room in the basement of the resturant which was fine. However I specifically asked for a large room to be given to us to allow our small children in the group to run around. To not have a divider in the room, I was told by the group reservation manager, that it would be an extra $200, I was okay with this too, and paid the fee.The group reservation manager asked how many was expected in our party and I told her approx 25....I signed the contract. When we showed up on Sunday, there was a curtain divider in the middle of the room, I mentioned to the waiter we were suppossed to have access to the full room, and our waiter seemed to not know what was going on, apparently this was not communicated to him.The Downstairs room seemed dirty and outdated. We had full view of the kitchen downstairs, (Gross) & no access to the beer stub, etc.The bathrooms were not available for us either, we had to hunt to find out where the lightswitch was at, outside of the bathroom door. All of this should have been prepared for us ahead of time. Have the entire room open as I paid for, have a clean room downstairs. Why was the downstairs kitchen door wide open for us to view inside? Why wasn't the bathrooms prepared and ready for us...It seemed like everything was rushed and no attn to detail...& no communcation to the waiter. We were told that they could handle our party, we had (one) waiter for our entire party....He worked really hard, and I think he was doing the best job he could do, but he needed help...If the Ox Yoke was not able to provide adequate staff to support our size of party, they should not have took our reservation. The food served was sub par at best, I remember the quality of food at the ox yoke to have been so much better. My rule is, If I can cook better than the resturant we are eating at, than I don't want to go back...and this was the case with this food...it wasn't horrible, but NOT worth the $30/Plate we paid for it.After the meal was over we went to pay...We had 5 guests that could not attend, and we got charged for the no shows...I WAS NEVER told this by the group sales manager I booked this reservation with....I was told in a rather curt manner by the front desk clerk, that it was in my contract and I should have known that....Which it may have been, but good business practice would be for the manager to review this to make sure this is known by the customer, and to make sure we definately have the correct head count to prevent increased costs...If we ever have a family event again I will not be going back to the Ox Yoke...This resturant has really gone down hill, and not nearly the same as I remember it...The food was Okay, service was sub par, I paid extra for room accomdations I did not get, and paid extra for members of our party that could not make it.If you plan to have a group event at the ox yoke, make sure you read the contract in detail, so you don't get taken advantage of...

The desserts were excellent as were the mushrooms, onion rings and cheese curds. The german fare was pretty standard. Opt for the weiner schnitzel over the jager schnitzel. Nice place but be prepared to wait for seating, even when you see empty tables. Luckily, there are a lot of fun things to look at while you wait. The strawberry spread on the dinner rolls is amazing.
