This place is incredible, like stepping back 100 years...can't advise you enough to swing by if you're in the area. Amana is a great Lil town to, main Street is amazing...

Off the beating path in High Amana, well worth making the trip for. Lots of cool knick knacks, local history books and local products, very old-fashioned. Grab an Amana root beer or an ice cream novelty and wander around.

Such a fantastic town and store. I love visiting here each time. Walking in has such a great feeling, the smells, sights, and ambience of the store are great. The staff has always been wonderful. They have a good selection of Amana products if you don't have time to go to all of the individual locations. There is also a large Christmas store inside. The Beer bread and beef jerky are some of my favorite things to grab when I'm there. Lots of souvenirs, try visiting during one of the festivals.

It was really nice to step back 100 years to see what the Amanas were like before the depression. We had a very nice conversation with the shop keeper.

Happened upon the Amana Colonies by sheer good luck: what a great example of serendipity!Lady at this store is lovely; items are both beautiful and reasonably-priced.Rest of The Colony villages also worth at least driving by, if one does not have the time to stop.History of these locations is fascinating. Loved our visit.

This is a very cute store. I haven't been in many old fashioned general stores, but this fits my mental image of what one would look like. They have a good selection of traditional German items, along with some typical general store items (like soda and candy). It was fun to browse, and my kiddo and I played a round of checkers!

Fun place to shop and explore history. Look up and down because there are things to see from floor to ceiling. Store clerk was so friendly. Bought some handmade items while here as well as a mix and match 6 pack of millstream soda. Definitely worth a stop while visiting all the Amana towns.

Very few items for the everyday tourist to buy. Not at all what I expected. The building itself is extremely interesting, both inside and out. Like the rest of the attractions in the Amanas it is fascinating, but I guess it should not be a surprise because of the history of the area, that there is a fully functional neighborhood surrounding the General Store.

The history of the High Amana General Store is so intriguing. Its interesting to be able to see how the building used to function. The items being sold in the General Store are amazing as well. I recommend making a trek to this store as the building and items are beautiful.

Can't remember when was the last time, but in this occasion we did the full visit with the visitors office and the video and chatt with the lady in charge, I heard some good descriptions of the overall workings and evolution of the settlement since a century ago, and she mentioned the concept of Europe in Iowa with menonites, Amish, swedish and other, which may be an opportunity to put together a lesson plan.

Lots of interesting things to look at as well as things to purchase with many items coming directly from German. I bought a Christmas pyramid that I love! Friendly staff but not clingy.

Great selection of gifts and unique food items. The flavored coffee in the basement is some of the best around. They will even grind it for you.
