My dad and I stopped in Amana after touring around Cedar Rapids and had a lovely afternoon visiting the general store, meat shop, and brewery. If you are looking for a slice of midwest life, make sure to stop by this region of the state to learn more about German settlers and the life they have made for themselves in the US. There is plenty to buy so make sure to bring that extra spending cash and a little patience as it is popular during the summer months and the winter holidays.

Drove through on a snowy day, had lunch at the Ox Yoke Cafe. Quaint, unique village, reminded me of Europe! Enjoyed very much!

Had WAY too much fun here exploring all the different shops/homes. So much to see and taste. It was fantastic!!! Spent a lot of money and met a lot of great people. Take the time and go into the antique shops, they are worth it.

Fun place to visit - several local small businesses offering unique & handmade items, good restaurants, and there is a good little nature a few minutes drive 1 mile - 3.5 mile loops. The History Center has some cool items & a short video explaining the history of the Amana Colonies. It's a good weekend getaway.

Such a spectacular place and a cultural gem in rural Iowa! Rich in history and tradition with a prideful community of residents who are incredibly friendly and welcoming. I spoke to the nicest woman at the general store who gave me some information about the community. It is so clean and pleasant. I enjoyed the browsing the general store, chocolate haus, meat shop, and the darling hotel. I look forward to going back and exploring more!

We visited this lovely little town Sunday afternoon, and there were not too many visitors. So we took our time to visit each of the stores, each of which has its own uniqueness and is fun to explore.Unlike many other historical places, this place has not become a tour trap but still pretty much keeps an atmosphere that is one of the kind. We really enjoyed it!

A really quaint and cute little area with small shops and boutiques. I believe it is supposed to be traditional German style stuff but there are shops with a variety of things. The general store has Christmas decor year round and many unique food items. I visited an art store and bought a print of a surrealistic painting. There is a t-shirt shop and a brewery and another restaurant. A good time in my opinion definitely worth a stop if you are in Iowa.

Beautiful community. Not extremely pricey but it will add up fast. 100% worth every penny. The food and shops is amazing!!! 90% of everything there is local made or produced.

Such an adorable little town with a little bit of something for everyone! Stay all day, walk around, enjoy the shops and the beauty. Or stay a weekend at the millwright! They have an amazing event venue that is breathtaking too. Its well worth the drive. Don't even question it!

These communities are beautiful. People there are so polite There is a lot of memory in their minds And they might tell you a story or 2. So many things to do from dining to walking, antiques, history You name it. Most definitely a must see and wonderful place to visit.

We showed up at 4pm in Amana and went to dinner first at Ronneburg. By the time we got out of dinner at 5 almost all the shops were closed. Luckily the toy store was open until 5:30 and the general store until 7. So we headed back out after breakfast the next morning. Most things opened at 10. There is tons of character to see here as well as beautiful flowers and landscaping. We liked that the buildings were the original ones not replicas like a lot of places . So much history was preserved here. Pretty much anything you could want to buy you can find here . The general store alone you could spend hours in.

What a fun place to visit! A short drive from Iowa City/UIowa (by Midwest standards). Great family owned restaurants. Wineries and breweries featuring local fare. Cute shops for all ages. Plenty of well marked parking area in Amana! Be ready to ‘get your steps’ though.

Most people were nice. Was working from camper and didn't have much time to get into places during the week because they close by 5 pm for the most part. Winery we liked best was Fireside. Did a tasting there with a small plate of nibbles. People knew..gluten free and were able to work with me on that. Liked Firefly wine and Dolche St Croix... think it was called. Another winery... felt like the guy was being a little rude... because I liked sweeter wines.. sent me across the street where the wine was so sweet it was like syrup... not for me. That was the White Cross Cellars winery. Go to Fireside instead!!

Wonderful town! I came here in early spring and will definitely come back when it's warmer out and all the plants are in bloom and grapevines are out!!

Super experience! We just passed through and stayed for 1 night, the place has spirit and history, only for mid summer we felt was little less busy, we wish they would get more visitors and customers!
