The first day it snowed this year my snowblower wouldn't start. They got me all fixed up the same day and back together. Well the night they brought it back to me I accidentally drove over a snow covered extension cord on the back patio that was connected to the christmas lights. A 100 foot extension cord whipped and wrapped around the auger and was so tight I couldn't get it loose. Called Ace and they got right out here picked it up, unstuck and running again in a few hours. Greatest service I've ever had. I will be doing all of my hardware and small engine service at this location.

There is something about a hometown hardware store. Going here takes me back to my days in college working at the Ace up in Ames. For those on the East end of Altoona, I highly recommend checking out Ace before driving out west. I can be to the store and back to my house with what I need in less than 10 minutes. Also, the Ace Clark and Kensington and Royal paint is some of the best i have used. In our last two houses I have used all the hot new paints, from Behr, to Pratt and Lambert, to Ben Moore, to Valspar, and for the money, I think the Ace paint is top notch.

Visited twice over the course of a weekend. First visit I came to get a new lawn mower blade. The store associate was sitting in a lawn chair when I arrived and seemed annoyed that I asked him where the item was. Picked what I thought it was (it wasn’t - my fault for not looking prior to purchasing), and then the associate had to cash me out which again, seemed like he didn’t want to. Just an overall bad attitude. I had never been to this Ace and it wasn’t a great experience. Ended up picking a different store to get the right item.Now I needed to return said blade that didn’t fit. Was actually dreading it because I didn’t want to deal with the first guy again. But it was a different person who was pleasant and courteous - got my return processed quick!Overall, seems like a nice but small Ace location. But there is better ones in the metro area.

Cashier was friendly, manager was nice enough. I went to rent a boom lift, which was simple enough. But felt that because I was young and female, the male manager was showing concern for ME renting the lift, asking if I knew how to use it, explaining things I told him I already knew, and just showed a lot of concern for me being the one renting it, UP UNTIL my MALE business partner showed up with his pickup truck to tow the lift. As soon as the manager saw him, he immediately stopped fussing and showing concern, and basically helped drop the lift on the hitch and went back inside. Im in no way accusing anyone of ANYTHING, im just saying how my experience was, and how I perceived it, because I want people, especially female, to just have a heads up, so they know what to expect. But I digress, as I said, had no problems and staff was friendly, rental process super easy! DO recommend!

Dropped off 2 screens at Altoona Ace Hardware to fix bent frames. After 3 weeks (sent to Nevada) Ace called me to let me know the screens were done, drove to the store. Still in Nevada! Second call today, ready to be picked up. Picked up screens, took them home, the pins did not line up! 1 side the actual frame was upside-down. Shoddy work, very disappointed with Ace! Will never set foot in this place again!

Manager on duty on Saturday 02/04/2023 I want to give a personal thanks to. She was the most helpful hardware associate me and my fiance has ever had in every department we were needing things for his job last minute. If I lived in Altoona, I would enjoy working at that Ace :)

Odd and End’s items ! This store is fine and it’s where you can find small buss fuses for power cords plug in’s for electronics charger’s and plug in starter’s for old medicine cabinets with Florence lights, like I said those odd home items and miscellaneous stuff.

Love this store! Lots of variety and pleasant staff! I have purchased flowers, bird feed and houses, batteries, solar lights, paint and brushes, benches and other small items. Always very accommodating and helpful! They are a wonderful asset to the city of Altoona! I highly recommend patronage of their service!

Ride a## people. You go into the store and no one ever comes around to ask if you need help. The employees stay hidden up front behind the cash register.

Always helpful, some of the newer staff are very off-putting following me and my young children around the store pretending to put things away or straighten things up while watching you like you're stealing. not sure who hired these young dudes but may want to train them a little better.

Not annoying, friendly and helpful staff. I find it very annoyed when repeatedly get asked if I need help while I'm shopping. I think it's rude and a little disrespectful, It interrupts your thought. I normally reply "no thanks, I'm just shopping" so when I get asked the same scripted question by the same employee every 5 minutes "Can I help you find something?" Its frustrating, I know how to shop.

I have dealt with Ace stores in many states where “Ace is the place with the helpful hardware person”. This place is the place with the clueless hardware person. The staff has no idea as to basic items, when asked for something as simple as a storm window clip they have no idea to even look for such, ask for valve packing and their response is “what is that”, call and ask what size of plexiglass they have and you get put on hold, then after five minutes you get disconnected, so call back and ask for sizes of clear acrylic sheets on hand and get asked what it will be used for, then put on hold again and be disconnected. Go in and get a copy of a key made, when handed the key Zi am told that it probably eill not work as they do not have the correct module for their new key cutter, the key did not work, when compared with the key they were to have copied there was a significant difference. Next time I will just go to Porters
