This is where we discovered our kitten, Mika. Everyone is really accommodating. When I was a pet parent, it was dogs. This kitten is very adorable; the folks who care for these adorable animals treat them like their own children. Donations of food and supplies will be made for the dogs and cats. Anyone could lend a hand to those people. Much obliged.

They have an amazing staff. Lot's of beautiful kittens,teenage and cats. So many different types and colors. The dog selection for the large breeds was a nice variety. The young lady who helped us was kind and knowledgeable (i believe her name was mary). We will be splitting our donations between here and Hobart.

I adopted a grey male cat named Mittens from here this last year. I kept meaning to give an update. He is Rocket now and quickly made our home his home. He is joy to have. This place was so helpful during a hard time after losing my cat Sir Biscuits. They even let my son play with puppies in the back for fun. It made his day. They seem to really love the animals that I saw. Thank you!

I love this place! The manager Nicole and the owner Fredia were very nice and helpful.I received a call saying that I would be the father of my first Pomsky! She had her vaccinations and was clean and bathed when I came to pick her up. I flew all the way from the west coast to get her and it was worth it. The experience was great and if you live nearby please go check them out!

Them people gave my baby away. So my cat sage was stolen from me and then taken to the shelter every time I called the lady told me to talk to my mom about it mind you my mom said that she never told the lady not to talk to me about MY CAT now I call again and she tells me I have to wait till he’s fixed and then come fill out an application I say okay I call today and ask about sage she says he went “home” yesterday trynna rub it my face she then adds with “nice good doctors” I will get her name and post more. They lied to me about my baby and I’m not done talking about it either

My brother adopted his first cat from here, 8 years ago she is now the best cat kid ever. She loves everything and her catch is she's a Diva!! Even in these hard times we donate something they are in need of, however I hope anyone else who can help will. Please

This review is conflicted. Adopted q pup a week or so ago. Why give a dog a label of pitt mix when u really dont know? Dont get me wrong I love the breed . The mother looked like a regular ol mixed breed medium size dog. The pup who is still very young slightly looks like a pitt. Admittedly they dont know who or what the father is. Im not even sure this pup is a pitt mix.

The people there are very friendly and informative. The building is clean and the animals look great and very cared for. I went to adopt a senior cat and found Ci Ci I am so glad I did. I will be bringing home my forever baby Monday!!! Thank you so much to Gary Humane Society.

Wonderful caring people. The fur baby's are well cared for and the entire facility was clean . I'd love to adopt a pet but 250$ is way out of what I can afford. Other wise I'd get one or 2 pets. That's just too much money to pay all at once. I could do a layaway plan or payments . To me it seems unfair that I can give a precious for baby a good home but be I can't fork out 250 or more they'd rather keep the babies in a cage.

I had a dog named Lola who was abused and abandoned. By the time I got her she had lost her hearing. I already have 2 dogs so its hard to care for another by myself. It took a lot of patience and calling, a space finally opened up for her. I'm so happy they helped me and my brother says its a really nice place. I appreciate it and if you read this, her vision is fine.

I really feel like they front desk lady did not want to help me. The dog I wanted was sent to Valpo and then I chose another one and filled the application out. We were probably one of the first people to have seen the dog and we were told she just came in that morning. They are opened at 11am, we were there by 11:30am. She told me that they were waiting for someone to claim the pup, and the person who approves the applications wait 5 days until she could adopt the puppy out instead of 3 days, she specifically told me to wait until Thursday. Well, I called today to see if the pup's family came to claim her. Well, the lady didn't tell me that, she said the pup has already been approved for another person. How is that? She told me to call Thursday to check on my application and here we are on Monday. I think it's safe to say I probably not go back. I am heartbroken.

This is the WORST PLACE EVER!!! I’ve tried to secure a place for my cats for a while because I would be moving out of the country. I tried calling and they NEVER have openings or the never answer calls! I finally got through and the lady simply asked how old was one of the cats. I replied with his age and she SNAPPED! She yelled at me and told me that “she would never put a cat at that age under that stress”. She then immediately hung up! She never asked for the other cats ages nor explained that they don’t take cats over a certain age.

Miracles happen here! A tiny dog was brought in curled up in a ball with most of his hair gone.I made plans to adopt him as soon as he was available.Ten days later when I picked him up his eyes were clear and his coat shiny; wagging his happy tail... a miracle for sure!Thanks!

Very clean place. They really do care and take care of the animals. They make you feel better about having to give up your pet for personal reasons on why you can no longer look after your pet. They make you feel comfortable soon as you walk in the door.

Awesome staff dedicated to to an awesome cause. We adopted their "Simba", our Max! I highly recommend these people in assisting you in your pet adoption! All of the furever pets were well cared for in all aspects!

the owner was very rude and I did not appreciate the way my family and I were treated, let alone the way she treated her staff. She appeared more interested in keeping the dogs in crates and unadopted than facilitating a good family with adoptions of a dog looking for a home.

I've always supported, just adopted a kitty and the process was painless. I love the fact they do a background check before approval. Highly recommend if you are looking to adopt!

I dropped off a pup that had just shown up in my backyard. I didn't rhink I would be able to keep him because I already had 3 german shepherds, but husband told me we would work it out because I was really distressed and had falling in live with the pup. As soon as they opened, less than 24 hours, I called to let then know I wanted him back. They told me I had to a fee of $200.00. At this point that hadn't even checked to see if he was chipped or not. I even stressed the fact that it wasn't 24 hours and was told I still had to pay. Smh. Never again. I hope he finds a good home. He was the sweetest, most loving dog. :(

I was looking to adopt a cat. The folks at the humane society were wonderful and helpful! As a group they are true animal lovers and caretakers. I came home with a wonderful little grey Kitty.

Very rude we wanted for 15 min before the lady at the front even tried to get someone for us. Then we fell in love with a puppy and did the whole 6 page app just for theme to tell me u can not adopt a pit bull if you live n Gary why the he'll do you have a humaine society in gary if they make it impossible for someone trying to save a dog's life I know the rules n was willing to abide by them but was still told no. So we left with my 2 year old crying because the lady was so rude. I will never recommend. Anyone go there this is just another reason Gary has such a bad rap sheet.
