This location used to be a Walgreens store, so this Dollar General is huge. It is clean and they have a great selection. THEY HAVE A FRESH PRODUCE SECTION! The prices are marked slightly higher than average, but it is still a great addition to the community. The pictures uploaded by the owner is not this location, so I was sure to take some of my own. Sorry for the blury ones.

Always get more than I expected. They at some point will have everything I need and then some. Though I'd get some learning items for the kids and, wow overboard. Over chair organization is key for little learners. Summer items, reusable bags, summer hats. Best time is now. Luau supplies, gardening and seeds, memorial, 4th of July....all items in stock, but I'm sure not for long.

Went in looking for a simple Android charger. Nothing simple about the store. It was dirty and dingy. This store could use more improvement on the store organization -- but being they are short of help and always having to restock boxes, its understandable.

I just ran in to pick up an item and I paid with my debit card NO PROBLEM. As I was walking out, I heard one employee tell another employee to “put that sign back on the door because I don’t want to be busy today.” I watched her put the sign on the door. The sign read: “Credit/Debit system down- cash only” … so essentially they are lying about their system being down just to deter customers from shopping. Real professional. I’m sure corporate would not approve.*edit* I raised them a star thanks to their manager Kechara(?) stepping up and going out of her way to assist me today in a big way.

I just left. The lady with reddish braids with a ribbon in her hair and grey shirt on addressed me with so much attitude! IF YOU DONT WANT TO WORK THEN QUIT. All I wanted to do was return something and she said no. I went to a different one and they let me return it without any issue.

Store manager very unprofessional stop taking customers to finish a personal call.. The associate who step up to try and get the very long line down state he was not even clocked in when she pulled him to check out customers..She actually went to her car to finish her call while there was a long line. Very unprofessional and selfish. This is literally the worst location ever.

The customer service is always slow and the clueless workers are always unattentive, playing with their phones and they don't seem to show interest towards customers. A lot of the merchandise is on the shelves damaged because it didn't pass quality control and the store reeks. I think this store is in this shape because of the low income area that it is placed in. Another slap in the face for low income residents.One of the worst chain of stores.I don't patronize any of them!!

I love Dollar General so conveniently located. I run in there and when I pull on the parking lot my dog starts to whimper he knows I always bring back his favorite treat.

This place was good and clean when they first opened but I have been back recently and holy cow has it gone down hill. What drives a location to be this bad? Is it the management, the customers, the employees?

Worst Customer Service today that I ever had....I quit utilizing this location originally because the store never opened on time....today because I needed candles 🕯because my electricity is out and I told cashier about my situation....she was completely uncaring and rude....if I needed to pack my own bags because I didn't use the plastic bags you provided she should have tol6me so wouldn't have held up the lin...she became very curt and rude to Customers behind me....you have lost a lot of business...need proper training told me so I didn't have have said something....i

New post 1/3/2023This store in Gary/ Miller is now dumpy. I don't blame the workers, I blame management.2021The Gary store on Lake Street is clean and easy to get through the isles. The staff is nice, but sometimes short handed.. I am happy one is close to my home..The Dollar General Storesneed to use this store as a template to redo all the other stores that are dumpy.Chesterton and Michigan City stores are the worst unkempt stores I have been in a very long time. The cashier at Chesterton was rude, he clearly didn't want to be at his job. I wouldn't either that store was a dump.

My experience at this dollar general was great the employees answered my questions and walked me to each items I was looking for, it just they had limited stock of alot of items but the store was organized and clean. Also, the produce items was arranged properly (i had to go to the back of the cooler to get a fresh item) and they had sells of practically everything.

I love this Dollar General. It's clean and have so many different items (and produce too)that other Dollar General doesn't have. Sometimes I find myself in this store almost an hour just looking. Keep up the good work guys! See you soon.

It's 5:23 and they say they are closed while the website says they are open while one of their workers stands in the front conversing with her little friends looking like some good rats and this girl is supposed to be a supervisor but always wearing a dub rag looking very unprofessional wish I could give sero stars because with people like that running this store this place is a joke.

3:00 pm on October 26, doors are closed, no sign explaining why and no one is answering phone. Horrible. I was there this morning at 930 on January 18 and there's a sign saying they're closed. Dollar general needs to shut down that store if they don't have employees

The location has potential but was under stocked. Was glad to see healthier food options on shelves and the candle selection is way better for the price than most other retailers.

They have good quality stuff 70% off. Velour blankets , socks, just all types of things. Staff just nice and friendly people. The manager will come over to help also.

The new store is clean and well organized. But the tap to pay with my phone didn't work, so I had to leave the line, go outside to get a credit card, then wait in line again.

Terrible service. Had to wait in line forever just to be belittled by the associate. I always try to see the good and make a positive out of a negative. But i will never step foot and any Dollar general as long as i live! I refuse to put a penny in a place that have no respect for their customers..

FRESH PRODUCE! UPDATE: They now have a couple of Morningstar Farms products! I have been buying all my groceries at DG since they opened but take a break every month and go to Meijer (barf emoji!) and spend $150.00 on veggie/vegan items. Soon, I will be able to stay right here! Wonderful store that has eschewed the stereotypes and hate associated with Gary. Most importantly, they have fresh produce and a wide selection of groceries. I was able to complete my grocery list, along with pet items, hygiene, and vitamins, for just under $55. If they add just a few more veggie and vegan items, this will be my exclusive grocery spot! I have lived in Gary for 20 years and have never been able to buy groceries--certainly not produce--this close to home. I see there is already someone on here saying, "Get security." Well, if that were to happen, I would not be back. I do not patronize stores that buy into the hateful narratives about Gary by adding security in Gary locations (but not at locations in other towns). People who want "security" can go to Merrillville and stay there; we don't need them. We do, however, need a nice clean grocery store and a good selection of fresh produce. I am grateful for this store and hope it continues!

Good store,great selection,good customer service nice manager,there is a cashier name of Jessica, skinny,rough complexion very rude and sarcastic to the customers swears when angry, staring down all the customers like they are thieves I hope this get sent to the corporate office for review
