My wife wanted a string of party lights hung on our porch and I needed a couple support poles and hardware to hang them. Went to the big box stores and the place with the helpful hardware man and they were all unhelpful… Went to True Value Clarendon Hills and the owner hooked me up with 10 foot - 1/2 inch conduit poles. He even drilled holes in the top then gave me eye-hook bolts and supporting fasteners. Total 100% customer support and satisfaction was his goal. I greatly appreciate his knowledge and kindness! This is old school hometown, friendly service that is hard to find these days. I will be taking all my hardware business here going forward.

I love having them nearby. Good selection of common items but their real value comes from the convenience of having them near by, and the ability to tap into the knowledge of the owners.They're always helpful when I come in looking for help with an oddball project.And, you feel like they're looking out for you, especially when there's a chance you might be getting over your head.Quick example,.. when I went in with questions about maybe finding a better option for clamping my whole-house ground to the gas line after I rerouted it, I didn't just get pointed to the electrical aisle. The first thing out of the owner's mouth (or was it his brother's?) was 'You're not disconnecting your ground, are you?'. I knew enough to have a backup in place, but it's nice to have someone who knows what they're doing looking out for the best interests of their customers.Support your local hardware store... they might save you from yourself some day. ;-)

Stopped in for some pest control items and the staff was incredibly helpful and even made sure I got the right stuff that was safe for my pet to be around. Knowledgeable and friendly staff proves shopping at locally owned establishments beats the big box stores every time!

I am completely and utterly useless at home improvement stuff. I've gone here twice with pictures and both times they have helped me. Each of the workers were very patient when explaining what I need to do, as well.

A great neighborhood hardware store. I was greeted immediately when I walked in and directed to the exact location of what I was looking for. The person in charge was very knowledgeable and attentive. Loved the whole experience.

I love this place. It has a lot of extra items I didn't expect for the kitchen, household cleaning, bandaids, laundry items, storage bins, coffee makers, coffee filters, dollies, electric drills, cooking utensils, baking items, etc. It's a great store.

They know plumbing, electrical and many things that break and need replacement on your house. I would gladly pay 5 times as much for a screw, bolt, outdoor security light bulb ect. here to avoid chasing fleeing employees at the big hardware outlets when I need assistance, but CHH prices are reasonable. When you consider the time, parking and effort to buy something at the big stores, trying CHH first will keep you sane.

I like this store. The prices are a bit higher but the owner is extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Even compared to other small (i.e. non-big-box) stores, they are still at the top of my list in terms of helpfulness.
