This fish tank shop is wonderful and the owners are super nice and helpful. I get all my aquarium supplies here, they have a great selection of aquarium plants for freshwater tanks. They have a great selection of salt water tank supplies as well.

I drove around all over the place for two days trying to find a decent fish store. Yall... This is it... It's amazing.. Fresh or salt water. And everything in between.. Wonderful customer service.. It's a good thing that I don't live any closer! They would get my whole paycheck.

The best aquarium store in the Chicagoland area! The owners have helped me created a beautiful, fresh planted aquarium start to finish. Tony always gives solid advice on aquarium set up, filter care and fish mates.I will not go anywhere else. I have, there is no comparison.Plus, the store plays great music while you shop.For fish friends, this shop is a must see!

Really nice fish store, they helped me out a lot in choosing tank mates for my first fish 20 gallon tank. I got 5 cherry shrimp and 6 green neon tetras from them to start and they acclimated really well! Highly recommend!

A gem. This family-owned fish store is one of the best, with a top selection of freshwater and saltwater fish. The owners are wonderful, friendly people who want your fish tank to be successful and will give you excellent care instructions. The place is small, but it has a wide selection and the fish tanks are very clean and maintained very well. I would highly recommend this business.

Great service, healthy fish, what more can you ask for. You can't put a price on healthy fish, as an unhealthy one can decimate your existing residents.This is the only fish shop I've visited, ever, where I have not seen Ich in their freshwater tanks out of all the stores I've visited.Here's my new fish, shrimp, and Vallisneria plant that I got today, placed in my quarantine tank.Here's a goby I bought a month later.---Update 2/21/2022:Ocean Design has the Reticulated Algae Eater (Crossocheilus reticulatus) in stock, and these healthy specimens are quite nice-looking, with a prominent dark spot near the tail and reflective silver black-rimmed scales! These are supposedly the best at eating the unappetizing black-beard algae which is why I purchased them, which they're eating in the picture attached.

I was so lucky to find Ocean Design Aquarium early in my aquarium hobby because I need go no further in my search. Everything I have needed from advice to fish and supplies is here. Most pleasant owners and full of knowledge.One example...My aquarium was having a bad brown algae problem and I researched on line a hundred solutions. Asked Tony...he said Ottocinclus... sold me one for 5 bucks... problem solved. Tank was immaculate in 2-3 days and such a cute little sucker.Don't want to get long winded so I'll finish by saying can't say enough how great they are!Thank You!

Owners Linda and Tony are so helpful and will help you find the right fish for any conditions and level of experience, so this is a great place to get started for beginners, too!

I really love this spot. There is a great freshwater selection and Anthony and his wife are very helpful! Their fish are healthy and the Otos I got had no problem acclimating to the tank. The tank-bred Rummynose tetras are feisty and love their new tank. Highly recommend you stop by!

This is one of my favorite stores to visit. Tony and Linda are very informative and always willing to listen. If you have any questions about fish or aquarium equipment they will do their utmost to assist you. Top quality plants and fish! Worth the 45min drive for us!

I really enjoyed this fish store and spent a bit too much money. They have a large select of unique rocks and wood. The plants they had were amazing! The were quite a lot of freshwater tanks with a good selection. I wish the prices were just a bit cheaper so I could buy more.

Great family owned aquarium store. I've been buying all my fish from them for over 10 years. Fish are always very healthy and active. Good fresh and salt water selections. Bring your water to them and they'll check out the chemicals for free.

Some of the kindest, and best people I have every got the chance to meet. I came here years ago when I needed fish food for a goldfish tank, then I broke that one down and sold everything. I recently came back to the hobby and got started in fresh and saltwater, I got almost all my fish here. Totally worth for me to take a 40 min drive here because of the owners alone. I got 2 clownish, a mandarin fish here, and my Cory catfish and tetra fish here. I probovallky will only ever get my fish from here in the future. I love coming in here!

I was excited to see this place based on the reviews but turns out the review pictures really do show everything.. its so tiny! And the prices are the highest in the area but no qt? No thanks.. def a bummer.

I don't know why I'm sharing this because I'll be giving away my secret spot for fish keeping. Very good selection of fish over your average big box pet store. And knowledgeable about the hobby. They're local (at least to me) so I'd rather spend my $ there.Update: they carry Aquarium Co-op products now

I searched far and wide for healthy/vibrant guppies and finally found success at Ocean Design! I called beforehand to make sure and was told they had an assortment. They definitely have quite the collection and not only guppies. The tanks seem to be healthy, as I didn't see one dying or sickly fish. I was there a while before I decided and the gentlemen assisting was kind and patient. I ended up buying six guppies and a snail for my 20 gallon, and three cardinal tetras for my Koi beta tank. They are all acclimated and seem to be doing well 👏🏼

I really want to like this place, the owners are super nice and knowledgeable. But, every coral I've brought home has had aptaisia and/or some undesirable hitchhiker just as bad or worse. Their marine fish seem nice, but I recommend quarantining them to be sure.
