The volunteer/worker I was in communication with was Hannah and she was just so kind! She got back to me in a shorter amount of time about my adoption application than I thought I would receive. Talking to her and figuring out a time for me to come pick up my new baby(I adopted a beautiful little Siamese girl) was very easy and she was very understanding of when I'd be able to pick her up. I live in Minnesota and had to come pick up French Toast(my kitty) on a weekend when I got off work, I ended up being later than planned as well and Hannah was so wonderfully understanding and accommodating. She was also able to completely fill me in on French Toasts history that the humane society knew of and just things she knew from helping take care of her. The rest of the staff I met were also so kind and I could tell that they cared for the animals in their care very much! I couldn't have asked for a better experience picking up my baby, as well as a better match for a new member of my family! Thank you guys for helping me add French Toast to my family and for the lovely communication and experience at your humane society!

Shannon and Hanna were very professional yet down to earth, and they helped me with the adoption process of a FeLV+ cat they had saved from another shelter. They were very responsive with my application and did their due diligence by checking with my vet to ensure he would be well taken care of (which I love!). And they were so quick! I had my amazing boy home in just a few days, and you can tell they really care about all their animals. I wish I could have taken more home, but I will definitely be coming back if I ever need another cat :) Thank you!

I have adopted 1 dog and 2 cats from the Centralia Humane Society, and I’m sure I will go there in the future to adopt. The staff are great people who truly love the animals there. They dedicate their time and energy to make sure the dogs and cats in their care find the perfect homes for each of them! They know each pet by name and treat them all as if they were their own up until they find them a forever home!I may be bias due to getting 3 of the most amazing pets I’ve ever had from them, but I would 100% recommend the Centralia Humane Society for anyone looking to adopt.

Great respect for people who work for animal rescue. Special recognition to Gina Wilson who goes to tremendous effort to secure safe environment for cats/kittens. --To the extent of protecting them & providing a quality, safe environment until they can find a home. Beautifully perfect kittens. Perfectly innocent. Giving them a chance to have a life & maybe bring joy to others. Driven by a need to protect. Raised my consciousness when I came to understand her actions. Hope to mirror that behavior in my personal life.

I adopted my furbaby from the Centralia Humane Society in March of 2023. She is a love bug and has stolen my heart.❤I am thrilled I chose to make the drive to Centralia. There are so many animal shelters to choose from where I live but all too often smaller shelters are overlooked, which in turn means the animals in small-scale shelters have a higher chance of waiting a longer period of time for a home. My baby had been there since October of 2022.The ladies at the Centralia Humane Society are kind and caring. Their love for all fur babies is obvious.I have always taken good care of my dogs, with proper and timely vaccinations, vet appointments as required or necessary, and lots of love!Anyone who has done the same will not have an issue being approved.I will only have one dog at a time....but if I win the lottery. ..😉...watch out, CHS, I will be back!!

I foster two babies from CHS and this organization is always so helpful with anything and everything to do with taking care of my fosters! I only need to ask and our needs are met. They have so much love for each and every animal that comes into their care!

Centralia Humane Society is an outstanding organization. They take so much time getting to know each animal ensuring it goes to the right home. CHS knows what these animals have been through and is determined it doesn’t happen again. They are an awesome group of individuals who work tirelessly to care for and screen to find the perfect match. Everything they do is for the animals well being. Keep up the good work Centralia Humane Society!

We have adopted two cats from CHS. They are very thorough in vetting prospective owners, for which we are very grateful. We’ve seen too many dogs neglected, chained in their yards without food and/or water. These animals need people who truly care to care for them and will only let them be adopted by responsible people. CHS is great in my book! ❤️

I adopted my Squishy from CHS. Facility was clean, workers were knowledgeable and helpful, and I have remained in contact over the years with the workers who helped care for my girl before I took her home. They do contact references (as they should) to make sure the pets are going to good homes. ❤️

Adopted our sweet Isabella from CHS almost 4 yrs ago. Great shelter & they were so helpful throughout the adoption process. We felt very special to have been selected among the many applications that were submitted to give our princess the love she was & is still so deserving of. She has been the perfect fit for our family. Her adopted brother loved her from the very beginning & they are definitely a bonded pair. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts CHS. Please people give a furbaby the chance @ a new life. Adopt from your local shelter & don't shop. Support CHS!!!!

These people are awesome...they truly are concerned about who adopts; they want the best for the animals in their care. We like dealing with them so much that we came back and adopted a second dog!

We have been wanting to find a local shelter to support because we know the service provided is so very necessary. With 50 cats and 27 dogs at the shelter (at time of writing) we knew that this was an ideal shelter.I love animals, and by talking to the staff and volunteers, I could tell that they do, too. It can be emotional and physically challenging work, but it's completely worth it.I started volunteering that day. When I went back the next day, I could immediately tell the difference I had made when several of the cats flocked to me, as if we had been acquainted for years. A little love makes all the difference.

amazing staff that takes great care of the animals. this shelter is clean and the animals are well taken care of. the requirements for applications are not “intrusive” as some people claim they are thorough and ensure that the animals are going to their perfect home. the women who run the building are all volunteers and take time out of their own busy lives to make sure that these animals find the right homes for them

I feel very let down with this organization. Me, my husband and son been waiting to find the perfect pup, and we thought we did. Me and my son went to meet her and we really had a great connection, we met all the requirements-so we thought- and yet we still wasn't "chosen" for the adoption. If your looking for somewhere to go and get straight forward answers-this is NOT the place I'd go. I was under the impression that they spayed the pets, then they said we was responsible for that ,on top of the hefty 150$ adoption fee . They told us it would be a few days, and it was, but they called and left a voicemail and no details to why we wasn't chosen.. We have a fenced in back yard and the dog would of never been left alone or put in a kennel. We would of been good pup owners but wasn't even given a chance. I also didn't like the tone the lady took with me when we was there and I told the pup to sit and it did -and she snapped at me that the dog didn't know commands. I feel that the dog had better manners then the owner. If we get a dog in the future it WILL NOT BE FROM HERE .

Contrary to a recent supportive message that said basically you must have done something wrong that you have a bad review posted, I understand exactly what many of them are saying. My mother is a long time supporter of animal shelters and had a number of long time pets. She is older now and we thought a pet would be good for her as she lives alone, but next to me. I went several times to look at cats and that first encounter was fine, the girl was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable of the pets. Thats where it stopped though I filled out a rather intrusive set of questions they wanted answered so I could pick up a pet I had seen I thought would work. Although the form said a few days or week at the most after three weeks of nothing I went back by to see what the issue was. After another wait I finally got a call from the supervisor who wanted to know more about my mom. She made and appointment to see us in a few days as I recall. The time came and she called to say she had to do other things but would get to us later. I told my mom that by the tone of her voice I had a feeling we would be another person she just decides to ignore.. One month or more passed and so we went over on a day she was there. You could tell by her attitude and posture that she wasn't happy we had the nerve to show up. I told her we would like to look at the cats and pick one out. She refused to let us go in with some excuse they were working on a cat room. Well they have about 8 of them so I doubt that was an issue. She questioned about mom not driving and I told her I live next door and would be responsible for anything that needed to be done. And I had given her my phone number because mom sometimes hits the wrong button an cuts people off. We told her of the experience she had with pets and supporting since the 1940s animal shelters continuing to last week. So her answer instead of how nice you'r doing that was, "I don't care what you paid to anyone I am am in Charge here". I had seen the previous comments here on line so I knew what to expect. I ask to see the cats so we could pick one out. She said she wanted to go in to make room for us to look. After we stood on the porch for 10 more minutes she and a different girl came out and the girl who was there when I came back after the three weeks of no calls said that I had told her my mother didn't want a cat. I told her that was untrue or we wouldn't have gone to all this trouble. With that the supervisor who was obviously enjoying putting us down said "We decided you are not getting a pet".So to those who managed to adopt a pet I say great for youand the Humane society is great for Pets, but not so Humane to the people who love them and want to give them a good home.

Their processes for adoptions and their decision criteria is opaque. The runs are full of rough rocks with aging feces. Their listing, in our experience, was bait and switch. The dog was clearly not a mix of the breeds advertised. Forcing the whole family to meet the pet before their deciding who to give it to is a flawed approach that seeds disappointment and resentment.

The staff is unprofessional, and I was accused of "dishonesty" in regards to cats that my father owns that I could not provide information for on the spot. Instead of simply denying my application, they took the time to call me and tell me about "other applications" that would make "a better home" for the cat that I applied for. This is my first time in the adoption process as a young adult in college, and their staff made sure to shoot me down such a disheartening way. Their supervisor insulted and accused me over the phone. My father called and let her know that how she handled the situation and accused me of dishonesty was unprofessional, she called him back and left him a voicemail that he immediately deleted. I have never dealt, or even heard of, employees with this type of behavior.

Please read. Terrible service. If you attempt to adopt an animal here, you will wait. And wait. And continue waiting while you recieve the run around. You can call. But you will only recieve an answering machine. If you do speak to someone, they will be of no help and continue telling you "Dont worry, well call you." They wont. Even after all the waiting and the patiently call to check on your application. You will still be denied for some arbitrary reason. The worst part about my experience, is, it's the animal that ends up suffering. Rather than be adopted out to a large three story home with a 2 acre yard, the animal is forced to remain in a small kennel because the staff deemed it so. I absolutely will discourage anyone from doing business with this establishment. I will shout it from the rooftops if need be. The staff and the business model needs to change. There is nothing great about this place. If you plan on adopting be prepared to wait at MINIMUM of 1 WEEK! Before getting denied. Please, go to the other nearby facilities. I love animals. Dogs especially, but some people and their power trips, are too much.

I was forced to surrender a special needs chihuahua, Scooter Bug. There were good reasons for my difficult decision. I felt that she needed more time from someone who doesn’t work full time, and I also felt it would be better for her. The people at the shelter were very sweet and understanding until the posted Scooter Bug on Petfinder. Then they commented that her previous owner didn’t want to be bothered with her....shaming me. I had planned to make donations to them once I was once again employed and had the money. I won’t donate a penny now to them!Judith Walsh

My son and I tried to adopt a dog there and they treat you as a criminal. They took over two weeks and still didn't decide on our adoption. So not donate to these people. They are not concerned about placing dogs in homes only getting your money. While the dogs stay penned.
