Our experience here was a positive one because the atmosphere was relaxed. The folks were helpful and gave good advice. They had a nice stock of crystal cherry shrimp and ghost shrimp along with a great selection of other aquatic animals (fish etc). Their filters and fish supplies were impressive for small-moderate fish tanks and even had a nice selection of smaller rimless tanks. It feels mega cramped walking through but you'll be hard-pressed to find a better selection of variety. Also the store chickens were cute!

Any store with animals is a must-go for our son. However, this is my first time walking my son in and my first impression wasn't good.Pros:-Parking is easy, plenty of fish to see, and lucky enough you'll see a random Silky Chicken inside!-He enjoys seeing the different variety of fishes, assortments of decorations, and the pretty birds in the back.Cons:- It is a bit crammed with narrow isles. Quite dark, which my son had me hold him the whole time.- The appearance inside hasn't been up kept. It was dirty and seemed a bit stuffy.- Absolutely no customer service. There were a total of about 4 staff on the floor. Not one greeted us with a "Hello" or took it upon themselves to ask, "Is there something I can assist you with?". My son was even ignored when he said HI to the man...If it weren't for my son, I'd most likely go elsewhere. Other than this, we'll be back for my son's entertainment.

Short version: very small, specializes in fish suppliesA neighborhood staple for many years. Went back for the first time in ages to get stuff for my desk betta. Had everything I was looking for and then some, and helpful staff. Reasonable price for live brine shrimp, which were healthy enough that they've started breeding. $2 got me enough to start a sustainable colony and I won't need to buy more for a very long time. Best selection of Hikari freeze-dried feeders I've found so far too.

Great selection of fish. Beautiful selection of bettas- not just the typical variety. Birds, guinea pigs too. Lots of pet supplies packed into the store. Helpful customer service.

Didn't realize they don't sell traditional cat/dog food when initially googling for pet stores. After walking in though, none of the fish/birds/reptiles looked like they had proper conditions to live in.

I’ve been going to Moanalua Pets since they were located at Gibson. Debbie & Miles are helpful and really good people. Get my dog (Rwby) her favorite treats. If you’re looking for fish for your aquarium look no further… Moanalua Pets is the place to go.

Very helpful staff, and a great selection of anything "aquatic." I will continue to come back to get my new axolotl (Squishy) special treats

Had exactly what I was looking for. A complete solution. Store is cramped but understandable for Hawaii, small local pet stores barely survive. As long as employees knew where to find everything it all works.

This business has been around for over 20 years. Definately, a place for exotic fish... Cichlids, tetras.. Etc. Though, small in size, the place is jam packed with a unique variety of fish as well as the typical ones you'd find in a pet store. Moanalua pets have more variety of fish than most pet stores on the island. The staff is knowledgeable, and the service is good. I highly recommend it!

This store is almost all fish Theu carry next to nothing for dogs and it smells bad. They take poor care of the fish tanks here. The smell was almost too much to take dispite the fact that i work with bacteria in a medical lab for a living

After a very disappointing and fruitless trip to my local Petco, I came here to restock my fish tank. The guy here was friendly and super helpful. I had very specific parameters, and he went though just about every fish that would work for me. He was very knowledgeable, and while conscious of prices, never made any assumptions about what I could/would spend. In the end, I got several fish that I'm happy with and am confident they will live together in my tank.I will definitely come here for all my fish needs in the future. I don't know if the prices are competitive with the big chain stores, but I don't care. The customer service is worth it!

the best place on the island to get bettas!!affordable prices, fish in healthy condition, fancy colors. they got a veryyy wide selection of both make and female wild types, giants, platinums, koi, coppers, long tails, short tails. and they’ll last longer than your typical petco/pet smart betta

Dirty and animals looked in poor shape. Went in to look at cute, possible new pets and came out sad. Places like this should take more and better care of the animals they sell.

Most filthy, disgusting, store I ever been to. So sketchy, they were selling parakeets for 15 dollars. Under priced even for stores like petsmart or petco which get their animals from large scale breeding mills. Probably a front for drug dealers. The poor fishes tanks were so grotesque and haven’t been cleaned in at least a few months. It seemed like they ran out of fish tanks so they started using Miscellaneous items as fish tanks for those poor betas. Most were in soda and wine bottles but others were in buckets and candle holders. And their was also a cat who must have eaten one or two fish because their where tanks on the floor with no aquarium cover. They also had Chameleons in improper cages. The fish looked sickly and diseased, so did the birds and chameleons.

Extremely well stocked and locally owned pet store. Pretty small but has a great selection of stuff fresh water fish we haven't been able to find at any other shops on island. Staff is super helpful and friendly even when they're busy.

This place is cramped and difficult to get around in when it's busy but living in Hawaii you understand space is a premium. The staff is nice and patient but what brings me here is that they are one of the only places on the island that sells discus fish and the selection is good. And, by the way, the fact that they have dedicated parking spots in front of their store is great.

I enjoy the variety of fishes, they seem to always have something I'm looking for. Great selection of fish some aquatic plants lots of bettas. Sometimes I just like to go there to look at the new fishes in stock and sometimes I just end up with a new friend.

Overcrowded. Good luck getting help to purchase anything. Staff is usually busy helping someone else and wont bother to look your way until they have finished making their sale. I have often come in, waited about 10-15 minutes to get someones attention, failed, and left. One miraculous day, there were no customers in the shop and i was helped immediately and wonderfully. Shop needs an overhaul on organizing, and perhaps a better customer service policy. Overall, prices are decent (better than petco) and i would still rather purchase fish and supplies here over petsmart or petco.

I've purchased 4 fish from this store, on two separate occasions. The first time was a nice experience, helpful staff, and the fish was healthy and is still doing well... But the second purchase I made was three fish, one of which started showing signs of illness the day after purchase. I called the store and the clerk said the manager (or owner) would call me back with advice for the fish, but he never called back. I tried again the next day and was told the same thing, but again, no call back... Sadly the fish ended up dying. I'm not sure why I never got a call back to help save my poor fish, but I do know they don't guarantee a healthy fish from this store. The fish was $40, so maybe they just didn't want to deal with the fact that they sold me a sick fish?

Lots of bad reviews recently. This place isn't clean like Petco but compare it to any other local shop around here and they're doing well with their little space.Rude workers? I don't know about that. They could be better educated though. I wouldn't come here with questions, just get in and get out with what you need. It's too small to be wasting time here.Still the best assortment of betta fish around. Still selling volcano shrimp olpae ula.

I come here almost everyday and it's never disappointing. I can stay in this store for hours and still find something new and interesting. They have a very good selection in fish for such a small store.

Do you want my advice?Moanalua pets is a terrible place to call never actually bean to their store but I have called them like 100 times, and why not call them well they have terrible service. The hang up on all of my calls. I am trying to find homes for my guinea pigs and I was even thinking of giving them to the store for free! But I can’t even talk to them to find out if they will take them!!

They have a normal selection of fish comparable to Petsmart. And small selection of food. That's it. Good customer service. Not every pet store on island has live fish.

Went in to buy my first set of Opae lua shrimp. Got attended by this young worker who clearly didn’t know anything. I should’ve walked away and not buy anything. It’s been 3 days and all the shrimp are dead. Don’t buy Opae lua shrimp here unless attended by someone knowledgeable and useful.
