Update March 2024Terrible customer service. I made the giant mistake of asking an associate for help after spending 30 minutes trunk to find a fitting to plug an ice maker line. I was treated so poorly I wound up walking out highly upset. I do my best to handle things on my own but in the rare times I need help I reluctantly ask. What a mistake. Hostile and belligerent is the best I can say for the person I asked assistance. Front desk/register associates are much more kind and customer service oriented. I will never enter this place again and will travel to home depot or buy online in the future. Was such a beautiful only to be ruined by this person.*****Expensive but they generally have everything you need from a hardware store. Beats driving into town to Lowes or home depot. Glad they are in HKI.

Bought an overpriced propane tank. i can get it cheaper in other places like Costco and homedepot lowes. Plus, they charge an extra fee for filling up your new propane tank. Where in most places it's already comes filled. And they make you wait like 30min or more get it filled up after you made your purchase.

Elizabeth Austin is an outstanding employee of City Mill Hawaii Kai. She gave me great service and took the time to help me find the correct nuts and washers for my husband’s wheelchair foot pedal. She was so helpful and I really appreciated her patience and kindness!

I went in with the need to get new p-traps and connectors for the sink in the kitchen and bathrooms. George & Wayne were perfect. I had some idea and these fellas made it easy. They were not condescending about their vast knowledge and my little knowledge. These two guys were great, helping with the heart of a teacher. These guys need to be recognized for the great customer service and friendly attitude.

No customer service available when called. Apparently cashier answered and needed to get information and availability, but was told she couldn't check because of her customers in line. So I asked if someone else could help she told me not really. What happened to customer service even when you call? Am I NOT A CUSTOMER?

The check out staff is always great and friendly. However, there are some employees who can’t be bothered to do anything including helping you if you’re standing there waiting to be helped… maybe it’s because I’m haole, or maybe it’s because I’m a woman, but it’s unacceptable. I will say that my husband doesn’t have problems getting help here (also haole), so I think I may have just encountered a few bad apples…every time.

They didn't have what I was looking for today but it's on order. They've been busy during the pandemic and like most hardware stores, their storage inventory is low. But I've always had a good shopping experience and their furniture is surprisingly priced low in comparison to an actual furniture store and it's good quality.

Nice hardware store. Not a big as the big box stores but big enough to solve your home and garden problems. Staff are a lot more helpful too, which makes a difference. Locally-owned! Love it!

My girlfriend lives out this way so I stop by here a lot. It's convenient and has basics, but gone is the aloha spirit from this place. Last two times I was here were not good experiences. The cashier, an older lady, didn't say hi when I did (my pet peeve). I could tell she didn't want to be there, but she was pretty rude and abrasive. Another one of them didn't even look at at me. He just scanned, charged and didn't say a word. Manners go a long way. I think City Mill needs to work on employee training for all of the cashiers. Maybe I'm asking too much, but I grew up old school when we were taught to treat others with courtesy and look them in the eye. I might as well go to Home Depot where at least I get a better deal.

This particular location makes you feel like you're part of their family. They greet me every time as though I'm an uncover critic they discovered was coming. Whether I spend 75¢ on a couple screws or a few hundred on a faucet, sink, and cabinet, their hospitality never wavers. I ALWAYS come here first, unless they don't carry something that Lowe's might. Their clearance is insane too! In fact, I just bought a multi-holiday projector for 95¢ (from $40).I really enjoy shopping here and hope they CONTINUE to expand their inventory

Was looking for a stainless steel faucet and toilet water supply line with a higher psi rating then what they carry. Did research and wanted a Wolverine Brass made water line that have a very high psi rating but they didn't have any. Guess I need to go online to purchase these. Still nothing with higher psi. At least I feel confident putting those in a high rise.

Love this little store. They almost always have those home improvement items I need in a pinch. A little pricey, but very convenient.

Asked to purchase a floor model of a product discounted 15% off original because the product was discontinued. The floor model was missing pieces and had a plastic part that was cracking from age. So I asked for an additional 10%. I was told no, and asked to speak to a manager. At that point the associate huffed loudly, and called over his manager. The manager didn't even make eye contact, just came over and said no. He said it was already discounted 15%, acting as if that was the open box discount and not because the product was discontinued. In the end, it was a classic example of how not to act in customer service. You at least say hi, you at least make eye contact, you at least say, I'm sorry that's as low as I can go. Both of these associates I dealt with made it very clear they were inconvenienced because I asked for an additional $2.70 for missing parts and because the display had clearly been there for years. I was in retail for 12 years, half of that as a manager and I would have happily taken any customer asking for only 10% off an old, visually worn display. I also would have been in a ton of trouble if I ignored such basic 'don'ts' when interacting with customers.I shop there when I have to because my father lives in the area and it's clear City Mill survives here because of its location, not because of its friendly, small store feel. Compared to Home Depot, prices aren't competitive and selection is small, in some areas, quite outdated.I shop there because my father lives in the area and it's clear City Mill survives here because of its location, not because of its friendly, small store feel. Well depend for what you are going there. If it’s paint, you are in good hands. But dont ask any of the lady “managers” for something. When to buy storage racks and she told me, I don’t have bolt cutters to size them for you??? They sell bolt cutters! I went to the big chain and spend my $100+ there. Or the next time, the lady “manager” told me, look for some of the guys in red shirt to help you. Well I was asking you.Like I said the guy in paint is great, the cashiers are very good as well.

Smaller version of Home Depot. More personable with employees available to help you with all your questions.

They seem to have empty spots on their shelves. It could be because of covid and shipping problems but overall the clerk's and cashier's were helpful and friendly. They do carry items that I needed for diy home repairs.

Really happy with the service I received at the Hawaii Kai location. First yesterday Meh Meh went above and beyond to help me with my order and today the store general manager Aaron helped me the same way. It so great to know that good customer service still exist. Mahalo Meh Meh and Aaron.

My favourite "go-to" neighborhood hardware store that has services: refilling barbeque propane tanks and products: gardening, painting,or essential home light bulbs, and it's within a few minutes convenient drive from my home. This particular errand was to refill my almost empty propane tank that I use to barbeque almost every other day or evening for fish, steaks, chicken, & pork. I didn't have to wait too long under 15 minutes or so for a propane tank refill. It was fast and convenient.

I love City Mill! It's not as big as Home Depot or Lowes, but it's got what you need, for decent prices (I think lumber is about the same price), it's much more convenient because they have so many locations, and the staff is helpful. If you need to cut a key, refill your propane, or pick up some lumber or potting soil, this is the place to go. Got some screens replaced, and they did the work quickly.HINT: at the Hawaii Kai store, it's almost always faster to check out at the lumber door, if it's open.

First time ever I was not able to find the part I needed. However, Jim, one of the staff, advised me how to solve my problem. I followed his recommendation and the problem is solved. One way or another, City Mill gets it done. A great store with knowledgeable staff members. Thank you City Mill.

Customer service great. Lines a little long, but to be expected given the situation. But the line moves. I went to fill propane but I was already told it would take an hour to fill. But all in all it was great.

It’s rare that I don’t find what I need. Staff is always so nice and invested in their customers. Prices aren’t always the best but it’s worth it.

Lots of employees to help you & good pricing on many items, but they didn't have what i wanted the last 2 times i went. They shouldn't have floor models of things they don't have in stock.

Sunday morning, a line over 50 ft long, lumber door and chk out closed so you have to maneuver a cart of lumber thru their serpintine route... City Mill is not my favorite hardware store!
