My family and I enjoy staying here. I have stayed quite a few times and everything was always very nice. Rooms are clean, beds are so comfy. Zac and his wife the owners are such a pleasure. He makes THE BEST BELGIUM WAFFLES. They are very accommodating. Highly recommend this establishment.Rooms: Clean and beds are comfy. Plenty of linen. I always need extra pillows wherever I go. Here I don't even have to ask.

The owners of this inn will make your visit super special. When I entered the charming inn, there were fresh cookies on a footed plate. The rooms are lovely; fresh and well-designed and not overly period. Breakfasts are beautiful and delicious. The nicest inn hosted by the nicest couple!

My husband and I chose Open Gates BnB as the venue for our wedding. Not only did we have an amazing experience and communication leading up to the date, Carrie and Zach did everything possible to make our day perfect. The rooms are comfortable and spacious; the breakfast was phenomenal. If I could give more stars, I would without question. Everyone was amazed with the beauty of the grounds and the little downtown is charming for out of town guests.

We had an exceptional time here... Only wish we could've stayed longer! We were welcomed immediately by Zach and shown to our gorgeous and spacious room. Went across the street to taste and purchase some delicious fresh chocolate from the chocolate shop, then headed a few blocks away for the local arts and crafts fair where we meandered around for a bit. Grabbed some fried shrimp from B&J's (highly recommended as well) for dinner as the grand finale of our day. The next morning at 8am we woke up to a delicious gourmet breakfast made by owner and chef Zach which we shared with friendly fellow travelers. Doesn't get better than Open Gates Bed & Breakfast! Hope to return soon!Nearby activities: Tons of things nearby to explore! The chocolate shop adjacent to the Bn'B is a must visit. There's fresh seafood galore pulled straight from the ocean (don't miss the friend shrimp from B&J's steak and seafood), cute local shops and antique stores, frequent fairs on weekends, all super close proximity. Sapelo island as well!

For several years Darien has been a stoping point on our travels to and from North Carolina. This time we decided to give Open Gate Bed and Breakfast a try. We were not disappointed. The rooms were clean and the bed was comfortable. The breakfast was delicious. I'm an early riser and coffee was ready when I got up. I had a cup while reading the paper in the living room on one of the sofas watching the birds out one of the large picture windows. We will be returning to Open Gate and I've been told that the breakfast will be even better when the chef is back from his meeting. I look forward to that because the breakfast I had set a high bar for him.Walkability: Open Gate is within walking distance to most of Darien's restaurants and the town's picturesque waterfront.

The hosts were very welcoming, attentive and accommodating. The Garden Room in the carriage house was very peaceful, quiet and nicely decorated with a very comfortable bed. The bathroom was small, but very clean. The breakfast was creative, tasty, and attractively presented. The location on Vernon Square was charming. We highly recommend Open Gates.

We stumbled across this Bed and Breakfast on our way to Florida. It was getting late and we needed to rest before our final push south. It was a true oasis. A beautiful historic building in a walkable neighborhood.. We had no reservation. Calling from the porch swing, Zach gave us the the garden room with private bath. Clean and decorated in inviting colors. The bed was plush and we slept like royalty. Included breakfast was wonderful which we enjoyed with other guests staying in the main house. Zach and Carrie were most welcoming. Highly recommended.

The owner met us when we arrived and showed us around the house, and gave us recommendations of places to eat and visit. Unfortunately, we got there late and had to leave early. He got up early to make us a wonderful breakfast. We could tell he is passionate about hospitality for his guests. The room was clean and comfortable, in a nice location. There was a fridge for us to store our food, and there is a kitchen if you are planning to cook. We wish we could have stayed longer.

So happy we stayed here. This was such a beautiful home with nice rooms and great common areas, just a gorgeous place. Best of all though was the gourmet breakfast served each morning by Zach and Carrie. Such great hosts, amazing food, and a beautiful place. We will definitely be coming back, if only just to spend the night here. Worth every penny!

Gorgeous property and wonderful hosts! Zach was so gracious and accommodating regarding my dietary restrictions- I had delicious gluten free crepes and muffins all weekend! The garden room was private, clean, beautiful and so comfortable. They have clearly worked very hard to make the old house both beautiful and cozy. Thank you Zach and Carrie May! We will certainly return!

Can't be beat. A beautiful historic property in a cute little hamlet. Sparkling clean. Scrumptious breakfast. The nicest hosts. Surprisingly they're just minutes off I-95. It feels like you're miles away. You'll be very happy here. We were.

This is a cute, historic B&B in a quaint, beautiful small town. The home is on Vernon Square and is an easy walk to literally ALL of downtown Darien. The beds were insanely comfortable and everything you read about the breakfast is right! Zach does a tremendous job. It was one of the best breakfasts I've ever had. We would definitely stay here again!

Open gates is a great B&B in an ideal location to explore the coast and the interior of this beautiful part of Georgia, historical sites are just steps from the house. The house is tastefully furnished with nice common areas for the guests to enjoy. Rooms and bathrooms are spotless clean. The owners take pride in making sure guests have the best B&B experience, provide very helpful tips on sightseeing and dining options.Homemade breakfast is a gourmet delicacy as one of the owners was a chef and still enjoys getting in the kitchen early in the morning to prepare delicious food for the guests.Highly recommend and hope to visit again soon!

We have stayed at Open Gates several times and I kick myself for not having written a review sooner. It’s a very comfortable, friendly place in a great little town with several walkable dining options. If you are traveling in South Georgia between Savannah and Jacksonville, give this place a shot, not far from I-95 and infinitely better than a chain motel. Super gracious host.

A truly wonderful small town experience. The house is so beautiful and Zach and Carrie May are excellent hosts. The breakfasts are award winning and words cannot Express the deliciousness! We were the only guests on a rainy afternoon and Zach baked fresh chocolate chip cookies for us.

The innkeeper Zachary was exceptionally welcoming. He is also a chef and treated guests to a most excellent breakfast. Our room was very pleasant, spacious and comfortable. This is a warmly casual and unpretentious but charming B&B where guests are encouraged to feel at home while enjoying the hospitality here. The location is good for a walk around the square, with it's historical church buildings and it is convenient to Fort George. Sapelo, Jekyll and St Simons are an easy drive from Darien. It was a peaceful and comfortable stopover which we appreciated

Just returned from our fourth time staying at Open Gates. Each time has been consistent, clean, and the hospitality from Zach is first class. The breakfasts are outstanding and award winning. Our dietary restrictions are no issue for Chef Zach, the consummate professional. The location is quiet, homey, clean and the beds are extremely comfortable. Zach and his wife, Carrie go above and beyond to make your stay with them magical. We'll be back soon!

We were passing through on our way from Florida to Michigan and just happened upon Open Gates website while searching for a place to stay. I called and was able to book the last available room for the night. He graciously accepted my kids. Zach gave wonderful recommendations on local places to check out for dinner, blue bay was delicious btw! I loved all of the information in our room. The bed was very comfortable. There was plenty of outlet space for phone and tablet charging. Chocolates on the bed. Scent sachets under the bed. Sadly, we left before breakfast but it sure did smell amazing! Would definitely visit again if we are in the area!

If you are in the area - an affordable must stay over place!Breakfast was delish! What a pleasant surprise that breakfast was cooked by Zach - a former Chef!! Absolutely amazing place. Stunning home in a very quiet neighborhood. We were the only guests the night we stayed so we had the whole house to ourselves. Breakfast was the best, fresh fruit and crepes like I have never had! Definitely worth the stop and staying a few days.

This was our 4th year in Darien showing at the artisan show for the Blessing of the Fleet. Zach and Carrie have always been wonderful hosts and go above and beyond what anyone could expect. When we stay, we feel like family and it is always like coming coming home. What a wonderful experience and could not recommend them more highly, or else I would!
