I volunteer with SAFE in Hollister FL & I walk SAFE adoption center dogs in Ravine Gardens State Park. The people who work & volunteer love the dogs & cats & put their hearts into making it as nice as they can until the animals are lucky enough to be chosen by loving people with safe homes whether fostered or adopted. They fill our paperwork & must be approved. The cats are in a separate section with access to an outside enclosure so they aren't traumatized by the loud dog barking. The dogs may be moved to headquarters in St Augustine for better exposure or to Hollister if they need special training programs or medical care. Sadly the shelters stay pretty full despite the good adoption numbers so there is often not room to take one more animal. The county often has the same issue of no room.

After my service dog passed away I took all of his medicine there & donated it & I looked around & they have alot of loving fury family members that could use a loving forever home from puppies to adult fur babies. If you are looking for a new member to add to your family ease check them out you won't be disappointed.

Never answered the phone. Tell me they're closed way before 4. Charge an outrageous fee. Are not very helpful or forthcoming in details. Never update the website or anywhere. Very unorganized. Wish I could say something nice but haven't had a good experience as a volunteer nor as a prospective adopter. They need to hire a full time adoption specialist that doesn't do general tasks. Only handles meet & greets & helping with adoption. Would help if they have web design skills or it skills. And get a receptionist. I'd volunteer for that and give another chance

My fiancée and I were extremely disappointed in the way we were treated during our recent attempt to adopt a dog. We met the dog, were approved and prepped our house for him, and at the last minute the rug was pulled on us and the dog was given to someone else. We were already told by Safe, “yes, the dog is yours.”Now, they did express regret at what occurred, and they did offer to let us adopt a different dog, but that’s not not much consolation. We’ve been searching for a long time to find the right pup for our situation. We wanted this dog, and we were approved for this dog. The whole process was handled unprofessionally and discourteously, and left such a bad taste in our mouths that we are unlikely to do business with Safe again. The emotional toll that this bait & switch has taken on my fiancée is no small thing.

Kennels always full they won't take any more dogs. I had six puppies that I can't take care of I'm a disabled veteran on a small disability check that I live off of because nobody will hire and if they get pregnant I have to kill him

These shelters need help. I support my local safe shelter as much as I can.My Chihuahua (18 yo) was killed by neighbors Akitas 4 weeks ago. So I am looking for a small dog or kitten to have a furever home in his memory.

Well, they're a great organization dedicated to saving animals. But they seem to be very poorly organized. And the dog we adopted was sick. They told us he was just fine. We're still medicating him with very little change in his condition. Even so, they are an organization with a good heart.

I adopted two great dogs from NF shelter before SAFE took over. SAFE charges too much. I understand they have a lot of cost to cover, but it is too much for a retiree. I am prepared to cover medical expenses after I adopt.

Arrived at 3:30 just to be met at the gate by a worker saying they were closed. I proceeded to ask what time they closed, So I could come back tomorrow and adopt a dog. The lady said 4, then said what can i help you with? I then replied well its only 3:30. Ignoring me she then said what can I help you with again. I do not get angry often since but the fact she wouldn't let me in to adopt and was rude in the way she spoke to me makes me question if I should ever adopt from safe again if this is how the people get treated when they come in. I always recommend adopting at any ones local shelter but not here. I will travel anywhere else but here!

They need to update their business phone and information or take down their address if they aren't doing business anymore. There are other businesses that are overlooked that help animals that can't be accessed because they are taking up space and not updating appropriately. A person from the neighborhood used my phone and tried to reach them the other day because a person living near my mom is abusing their dogs and they are never home. No one is doing anything about it in palatka and other cases take priority. For a town to say they are hiring people there aren't enough hiring in areas and places of work that need it like here and for the animal control units.

If you can volunteer in this area DO IT! It's simple to say with a review how great they are, but taking time to walk a dog, pet it, hug it or help them clean up will make the shelter and you too Great. If I was mobile wise I would be there.

I searched for a dog that was no threat to anybody or anything. I needed the dog to be tall enough for me to reach with my stoved-up back. One that didn't bark excessively. A dog that would spend hours in a large fenced yard but would also accompany me on trail hikes. I found Rowdy on the S.A.F.E Portable bus. The staff at S.A.F.E Palatka/ St. Augustine is the best around and great with matching the right dog to the right owner.

They are in this for all the right reasons. The one drawback, it seems that no one will reply to emails or phone messages. That, I have a hard time understanding given that their mission is to find good homes for the dogs and cats.

I had a kitten dumped in my yard I am unable to take care of it due to the fact that I already have five dogs three cats and a bunch of chickens and they told me they are unable to take the cat you're not a rescue if you can't take the kitten that somebody abandon out here. A rescue saves animals. They dont tell me to call the pound this kitten will be put down if it goes to the pound.

A no-kill shelter. If you visit please understand, with 70-80 dog's and on average of 2 employees with maybe a volunteer or two it may be messy, they do the best they can.

These people steal others dogs, based off of the assumption that they are lost or off of a neighbor who doent know how to mind there business and let them of their chains..I will never get a pet from here, who knows who elses dogs they have stolen.

I went by there today and they’re not open, and the phone number is disconnected. I called the other S.A.F.E Pet locations which just have a recording listing all of the locations and hours, nothing about being closed.
