A lovely, well kept historic mansion. We stayed twice, once embarking on our trip & again to end it. It is so comfortable & peaceful. Great to have breakfast ready as well. We will be staying again next year but for a little longer. The old Florida town this place resides in is just beautiful.Walkability: Herlong is right in the historic district. Take a walk to the shops or ride your bike. It's a lovely old Florida town.

Let me start by saying the Herlong Mansion is beautiful. Devin and staff were exceptionally (this does not include the owner - Kim). We stayed 2️⃣ days here with our friends for our friend’s birthday. It was clean, smelled great and very simple. They had coffee, tea and cookies out for guests. The breakfast was good but only one selection no other choices. My husband and I stayed in the Palm Room 2nd floor. It was very hot in our room on our first night so we turned the ceiling fan on it rattled so bad I could not sleep literally thought it was going to fall out of the ceiling. We reported ceiling fan rattling and it being overly hot in our room at 8:30am the next morning to Devin watched her write it down and put it in Kim’s desk. We went out for the day when we returned at 5:30pm my husband asked about Kim about the room being so hot. Kim acted like she didn’t know anything about it, of course by now it’s after hours. Kim called AC person spoke with them with no resolve. We asked could we move to another room there were non available… we asked if they had a fan - no fan. Kim was very rude and was not understanding that we paid a lot to enjoy our stay in comfort. Kim stated well it’s an old mansion. Kim told us she would take care of it but when we returned from our dinner she had left for the night. It was so hot in our room the second night my husband got over heated and got sick twice. Upon check out Kim was nowhere to be found… and she did not resolve the issue’s simply tried to make excuses for them. At one point Kim even said maybe we should stay at another hotel. Kim did turn the AC down to 68 however by the time we went up for bed it was set back to 70 again.Let me also add: on two occasions they accused our friend of burning in-cents in their room - no one in our party even smokes nor did any of us light anything. After my friend told Devin the first time it was not any of us…..it was mentioned / brought up to them again a second time. Which really made them feel that they were being accused. We were on the back porch playing cards and listening to music and not even in the room until late 12:30am. But they told us someone reported it??Mansion itself is in need of some repairs and improvements. But most of all the owners attitude was enough for me to post this review. We did not feel welcomed by the owner when there was a problem nor did she take care of it. This place is too overpriced to get treated poorly. Overall not a relaxing enjoyable experience. I forgot to mention the owners way of taking care of things is to do noting… no fixing the problem, no money taken off for all the inconvenience Just unacceptable!!

Spent one night at this adorable bed-and-breakfast.In a sleepy little Florida town away from the hustle and bustle. The staff was so friendly. The architecture is amazing. The beds and pillows were so comfortable. I even slept on the daybed I’m 6 foot tall and I slept comfortablyTried to learn about some ghost stories, but couldn’t find much history on that.We stayed in the Nora room and we had the fan on the whole time we were there and it wasn’t doing any weird noises. But after midnight randomly is a fan would Start making loud noises for like five seconds loud enough to wake me up and scare me. If I was beside my phone I would’ve recorded them. The energy did not feel negative. But that was something very interesting and the fan didn’t do it at all in the morning, and I tried to make it make the sound to no avail .Definitely recommend this place if you’re in Ocala or Gainesville part of Florida

What a wonderful experience! This was my wife's and I first authentic B&B experience and I must say it was divine. Kim, the current proprietor was a delight and allowed us to utilize some of the amenities before our check-in, awfully kind and considerate. We spent a total of 3 days and were sad to leave. Staying here was like going back to simpler times and a great retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city. Highly recommend to anyone!

We stay one night in this beautiful and historic mansion last weekend. The staff were very friendly and always greeted us with a smile. Our room was cozy, quiet, clean, and comfortable. The main area of the BnB was the same. In fact, I was amazed at how clean everything is since I own a home and know what it takes to maintain a regular sized house. Breakfast was limited on choices but well prepared and served sit-down style. The location was perfect for exploring Micanopy and only 20 minutes to Gainesville where we had dinner. Just about 15 minutes away is Paynes Prairie State Park where we took a nice long hike.I highly recommended staying at the Herlong Mansion BnB.

Herlong Masion is so grand!!! as you are walking up the sidewalk plus this is a great photo opportunity or video .if you are renting a room you have to use the side door when you walk in it is a little tight but the hardwood floors are gorgeous 😍 plus they had the victrola playing in the background they had some gorgeous !! Antiques the whole atmosphere was very peaceful they have I think 2 sort of small dinning areas from what I was able to see they also have an incredible porch plus they have rooms with there on private veranda so if you want a piece full getaway with a cool downtown area 😎 this is for you😃😺

We were in the Herlong Suite. We were very disappointed in our room. First, the bathroom, was dirty. We looked up; there were spider webs around the room; two had active spiders in them. The sink had redone porcelain that was severally peeling. It really gave it a dirty, unclean appearance. The spigots barely cleared the lip of the sink; you could not even put your toothbrush under the spigot to wet or rinse it. Some of the plumbing appeared to be coming loose and was unanchored. My white sport socks turned black on the bottom from walking around in the room in my socks. The bed was very uncomfortable, as well; it appeared that there was some kind of thick pad on the top of the mattress. When we opened the closet; the smell that came out was very dank and moldy. We quickly closed that door. It rained all night, quite hard at times. Right outside the windows was the portico that you can pull under to unload your bags. It had a rickety looking tin roof. That roof made it sound like there was a loud drum right outside the window most of the night. When it rained hard it was unbearable. I do not remember the last time I paid three hundred dollars for a room that had this many issues. On the positive side, the breakfast quiche was very good. The coffee was good, as well.We had neighbors who were drinking and partying on the veranda until after 9 pm. This was just outside our room. Thankful they ended it shortly after 9 pm. We will not return to this establishment. This grand old mansion, desperately needs upgrades.

We scheduled an appointment to come look at the property as a potential wedding venue. When we arrived the owner helped someone else who came in just a minute or so after we did and spoke with her first, at our appointment time. When she finally took time to meet with us, she made some excuse about having too many people come at once. Again, we had an appointment. When she showed us the venue and where the wedding would be, it was no where near the size we needed for the wedding. She simply said that’s why she tells people to come out and look. While I agree, as we are looking at many venues, the information she provided prior to us coming out was misleading; as were the pictures. The only saving grace for driving all the way out there was the yummy place we had lunch in Micanopy! Thank you Old Florida Cafe!

We thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our stay at The Herlong Mansion! Starting with the welcoming reception we receive from Sabrina, to the lovely time we shared with the Proprietor, Kim. This historic home is absolutely gorgeous... The hospitality, the ambience, the relaxing wine on the terrace and the delicious breakfast! The bed was extremely comfortable and the linens were amazing! Micanopy is such a charming town, and the Herlong Mansion is tucked away in the center of it all... and only a few minutes away from I-75 and HWY 441 - making it a quick and easy escape! Thank you for the hospitality, and we hope to return as often as possible!

We just had our wedding on November 12th 2023 at the Herlong and I CANNOT say enough GREAT thinks about the home and about Kim, this is something we planned ourself with very little outside help and Kim was AMAZING from the communication to the positive attitude and hospitality is unmatched the grounds and beautiful and charming with a old world feel while seamlessly incorporating modern day luxuries of world class resorts. We will be back for almost EVERY anniversary.Rooms: Each room is unique but they all provide all of the luxuries of a world class resort with the hometown feel of a air b and b

First off, I thought it was awfully inconsiderate and rude to ask us to park first during pouring down rain instead of allowing us to quickly get out under a dry covered carport during check in (which was what we were instructed to do via email). Ourselves, belongings, and luggage were all wet and muddy. Nobody was behind us waiting. The suggestion of using an umbrella for ourselves and luggage doesn't help. Our room definitely looked bigger, opulent, and better in pictures! Also, online pictures looked like there was beautiful wood trim on the ceiling, but it was just a wallpaper border, and it was coming loose. There were only two small pictures close together on one wall. Another wall had just a mirror above the fireplace. Room felt stark. We found the room to be dirty and dusty. Furniture needs regular cleaning, too! The top of the shower curtain rod was so dirty! Luckily, before I was about to drape a damp towel to dry over the rod, I happened to wipe a small area first. The wipe was thick with grime. Things needed to be repaired like the missing plaster areas on walls, only one working electrical outlet available, broken/loose pieces on the bed frame, and leaking plumbing in the tub. I believe we were getting septic fumes because it was a constant odor in the entire room, and room spray didn't mask it enough! We wouldn't be there for hours and would come back to a stinky room. Beds were horribly hard and made trying to sleep painful. Bedspring(?) made too much noise at the slightest movements. We talked to other guests, and they said their beds were comfortable. Some guests were VERY disrespectful of other guests and were very noisy, especially multiple times each night. Breakfast the first morning was inedible to us. We had to pick up food elsewhere. Salty broccoli (with extra broccoli) and eggs in the morning doesn't ever sound like an appetizing breakfast...to us at least. The second morning was definitely better but lacked in some flavor. Blueberry muffins were awesome, though. It was nice having access to hot tea, coffee, and cookies whenever we wanted, but if you don't care for cookies or if on a diet, there's nothing else available to snack on. The local stores or restaurants mostly close early, so if you're hungry, you'll have to plan ahead. Make a reservation for the Italian restaurant close by, leave, or go hungry. A little table or area to purchase snacks would've been lovely. Especially some of the samplings of locally made foods to purchase would've been nice. I'm giving four stars because the historical house itself was beautiful and grand. The second story porch was awesome and comfortable, and where we spent the majority of the time while there. The area is so peaceful, quaint, and lovely. Definitely wouldn't have booked a two night stay if we knew we were going to have so many issues. We were ready to go home after the first sleepless night. I think spending nearly $600 for a problematic two nights stay was not worth our experience. If I'm going to spend that much money, it better be merited. I was real letdown after always having wanted to stay here since the early 90's...although I really appreciate the chance to have stayed. If, for some reason, we decided to try again, we would definitely pick a different room and one that might more deserve that price! Definitely didn't end up being the restful, romantic, and recharging getaway we desperately needed!Except for one instance, we didn't share any of our concerns simply because we were never once asked while there?!? I wasn't going to leave a review at all because there is so much negativity, but it's really irked me, and I think future guests should be aware.Rooms: I would check out the rooms first in person and test the comfort of the bed before booking if at all possible.Safety: We felt very safe while there.Walkability: Easily walkable area to shops, coffee, dessert, parks, food and churches, etc.

Herlong Mansion looks beautiful from the front but building and rooms are showing their age. Walls need patching and repairing. Ceiling fan was so old and noisy we had to turn off. Same with air conditioning unit - too noisy for us to sleep. 'Bathroom' as such needs major upgrade. Breakfast was 'take it or leave it' - no healthy choice offered. Yes - it's historical and old but it's not ' charming' old. Great location in quiet, sleepy Micanopy but really needs a total upgrade. We will not be staying again. Just an honest review.

Thank you to Kim and staff. We had a wonderful stay. The mansion, the rooms, and the grounds are beautiful and very comfortable. It was like traveling back in time but with all of the modern conveniences. So many thoughtful touches in the room and the breakfast was outstanding. The staff was so helpful and courteous. I can't say enough about the experience! We will definitely be back soon. Thank you for your outstanding hospitality!

We recently spent the night at the Herlong Bed and Breakfast. Our only regret is we could only stay one night due to the road trip we were on. The building and grounds are gorgeous. It is like stepping back in time. The rooms are beautifully furnished, even the smaller ones. Breakfast was delicious too! The staff were friendly and helpful. We would love to come back and stay for a longer period of time and get to know the area better.

My husband and I have stayed here twice now and have loved every minute of our stay. The mansion is simply beautiful. We so very much enjoyed relaxing on the balcony and walking around the town. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. We stayed in the Dogwood on our first stay and the Herlong Suite on our second stay. The staff was very welcoming, friendly, and willing to ensure all our needs were met. The breakfast was amazing, Joy adds the extra touches to present a beautiful and tasteful meal and she was so sweet to share a few secrets about her recipes. We will be back; this is our "run away from home" home!

We recently filled up the entire Herlong Mansion with the wedding party and special guests for our daughter's wedding. From the minute folks checked in we all felt as if we were guests in the home of very gracious hosts. Wonderful accommodations, great breakfasts, cookies and wine available. And they made sure we could watch the Jags playoff game in the parlor that night. The Herlong made a special weekend even more special.

Owner seems to be a typical "Karen" type. A friend of mine went to take a photo using the wooded area near the house as a background. The owner followed and harassed my friends because she was "worried" the house would be in the photo. The photo in question was taken on public property that happens to be adjacent to the house and there's no house even slightly visible in it. House looks beautiful but if that's the standard attitude and actions of the owner, I'd steer clear.Reply: I wasn't there and they were on public streets taking photos. Yes the car was parked there and they moved it immediately. Your decision to follow them, on public streets, after the car was moved from the lot, screams entitled Karen. You even had an off duty police officer tell you exactly how you were wrong. Your response just screams the attitude you seem to possess. Good luck with your business, you seem more of "do what I say because I say it" than customer service (or even neighbor friendly).

What a hidden gem in the most unexpected place! We stayed just one night and were looking for a place to do nothing and this was a much needed oasis! The house is beautiful! The grounds are stunning! The smell of Jasmine from every corner of the property was intoxicating! The accommodations were well appointed, and the attention to detail is on point. The inn owner made our stay memorable at every turn and we were pleasantly surprised with the little downtown area. Though I would say go later in the week as most shops were not open Monday or Tuesday. Treat yourself to this magical place, you will not be disappointed!

My husband and I made an impromptu over-night trip to Micanopy to do a little antique shopping. We were happy that the Herlong Mansion had one vacancy left. The stay was the highlight of our trip. This house is gorgeous and makes the perfect B&B…it was charming, comfortable, welcoming, and elegantly furnished. The breakfast was very good and the staff who served us were all so friendly. The front porch is amazing and provides the perfect spot for afternoon tea, coffee or adult beverage.Thank you for a wonderful time. We will definitely be back!

Herlong Mansion is beautiful! My husband and I stayed a night there this weekend and we really enjoyed ourselves. The staff is incredibly kind and accommodating, and offers a complimentary glass of wine at check-in as well as warm cookies before bed.We had to leave early, before breakfast starts, and the kitchen whipped us up something to go. Really accommodating! We stayed in the Iris room and it was lovely. Super well decorated and clean. The highlight was the huge, in suite, two person tub. Can’t say enough good things about that! The town is pretty sleepy, but that only adds to the peace of the property. If you are looking for more to do, Herlong is only a 20 minute drive to Gainesville.I would definitely stay at Herlong Mansion again!

Stayed here with my girlfriend on a Sunday night, and it was a really nice getaway. The staff at the mansion are all extremely accomodating, professional and friendly - and just nice folks. The common areas were in great shape, the rooms were extremely clean and the overall venue was welcoming and rich in history. We're definitely coming back.

This Bed and Breakfast is quite possibly the most beautiful hotel in the state of Florida, and most definitely the most beautiful we have ever seen. I loved the history told through the displays, the balcony, porch swings, and rocking chairs... and my husband and I especially enjoyed the wine and gourmet cookies that welcomed our arrival... and the breakfast was outstanding! There were a few kinks however... a shower that alternated between steaming hot and icy cold, French doors leading out to a shared balcony that wouldn't lock, and no one at the front desk to contact. I also think the house needs some updates and renovations to accommodate those travelers who are accustomed to amenities, including a charger or USB port in your room... there is only one charger and a single TV on the property, and both are in the lounge. Also, service is important... a concierge or at least a desk attendant should be a must in a place such as this. When we arrived a hotel guest had to unlock the door for us.
