I hate to leave this review because I have been coming here for a while to shop for fish food, and I finally decided to take my cat here to be groomed and I am very disappointed. After looking at some of the other reviews about the groomer, I see that many had a similar experience to my own and so I would like to add to that and say that I’ll never be back to have my cat or any pet groom here ever again. When I dropped my long-haired cat off, I asked if they could bathe him, trim his nails, and remove some of the knotted hair that he had on his undercarriage. The groomer also said that he would even out some of the long fur, so I said, that’s fine but I specifically said that I did not want him shaved down. upon picking up my cat, several hours later, I found that they had put him in a cage, wet, and had a fan on him. He seemed cold and very unhappy, and the groomer was missing in action. Furthermore, his belly had been shaved, which I did not ask for. I do hope a new groomer can be employed and this other person let go at once. Also, my cat was sick the next day. He vomited twice, which I think is due to Him being cold from being Shaved on the bottom

cool pets BUT they dont care for the cats and dogs that need adopted, one cat had worms coming out of her butt and she was so sad. nice reptiles! i hope Chicken (the parrot) is doing well, she seemed upset last time because she wanted to be free. Chicken is my best friend every time i go.

DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG HERE TO BE GROOMED. Wish i could give zero stars. We are devastated. And worse, our dog seems different. We dropped our standard poodle off around 12 pm and specifically asked for nail filing and teddy bear face. We even stopped by during her grooming to check on her, however , the groomer wouldn’t even come out to speak with us. We were told we couldn’t see our dog because it could cause her to get too excited. Finally, we’re called at almost 6 pm to pick up our dog and she was completely bald. They shaved all her hair off. Without so much as a call or quick consultation to inform us of their reasons. When asked to speak to the groomer, we were told she left because she had to pick up her kids. And told it took so long because their assistant quit and they were running behind. We can only assume this was a rush job. I know for a fact that her facial hair wasn’t matted because the night before I combed it out myself in preparation for her appointment because I didn’t wanna hear anything about her not being able to get the cut we asked for. At any point when the service requested is deviated from, there should be a call. Also, her nails are still sharp as tacks. I don’t have any confidence that this review will be met with a solution or even professionalism because I seen all the other childish and defensive responses to the other reviews. So I’ll be contacting the BBB as well. We will never bring our dog back.

At Pet Kare, they do more than just care about pets. They also care about people. Our pet passed on November 2nd, 2023 due to a serious error from his Vet. I was searching for days on the web and getting very frustrated with the possibility of scams. I then went to Pet Kare and that is where I met an outstanding person by the name of Christine. She did everything to find me the same breed of my pet who passed on. Christine actually did find me one. Ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce you to my new friend; Chulo III. See the pics below. Not only is Christine an outstanding person, but the whole staff is as well. A Special shout out goes to Michael. He is the one with the blond hair. This place deserves more than 5 stars. It deserves a million. ******** Thank you to the whole staff. You guys helped me alot and the tears that were coming out of our eyes from our loss. Thank you so much! Tony xxxxxxx

If I could give zero stars for this place, I would. This store is an absolute disgrace and so sad to see all these puppies and kittens in tight crates, barely having enough room to move around. They stay in there all day, except to go to the bathroom. That is disgusting in every way possible. Not only is it inhumane, but these poor animals are terrified. I can’t even imagine how many codes this violates too. Shut the store down, give these animals to homes people will love them in, or rescues where they will be taken care of. It broke my heart to see that in the store. I walked right in and right out as soon as I saw that. Come on people, adopt don’t shop. There are so many animals in shelters that need homes. These poor puppies are coming from breeders or mills that work these mothers to the point of death, regardless of whether they are sick or not. And then to try and sell them? What is wrong with you people!

I can't usually find the items I'm looking for here, but to be fair, what I'm looking for is usually specific so I have to venture to PetSmart or Chewy. However, I'm never disappointed because I enjoy visiting. Seeing the animals in the window or just meandering over to see the baby rodents is so nice. Staff is usually very friendly, and knowledgeable. I've been visiting/shipping for almost 15 years, and I have yet to have a bad experience.

Very nice place to go for all your pets needs. This is a daily visit for show and tell with my grandkids. They love looking at all the animals. They have quite the selection.

PLEASE READ:I am BRAND NEW to Newark. I phoned Pet Kare earlier today, searching for a brand new pet dove. (My dear 24-year old buddy recently passed).Michael answered my call and was very pleasant, personable, and so professional; a rare mix of qualities these days. I felt no sense of being "rushed". You know?Michael answered all my inquiries as though we'd been buddies for ages. Also, I was blown away by his knowledge in ornithology. (I suppose that 16 years of his being in the business will do that). I thanked him.Later that day I visited the Pet Kare store. I walked inside and was awestruck. The place is immense! It appeared spacious, neat and clean; very impressive for my first-ever visit.I immediately saw at least two employees, each very cheerily speaking in friendly manners with other pet-loving customers.(I am a former owner of my 63-year old family business. Trust me on this; I can *instantly* spot welcoming, experienced employees in action, as well as quality, genuine 'customer service').I know nothing at ALL about Newark, DE. The funny thing was, my aforementioned phone call with Michael had been earlier that day. Now, while casually grocery shopping, I just happened upon Pet Kare's store by complete coincidence.There it was! I just *had* to go in to say 'Hi'.The Michael I met was every bit as warm and friendly as our previous phone call had promised. The man has a gift of personality, chipper & bright. And his obvious specialty knowledge left me confident that his colleagues share the same qualities. They appear to be personable, wonderful staff.Next month, when the time arrives for me to meet and pick up my new little feathered buddy, I will readily make the nearly 2-hour drive to Pet Kare.Why wouldn't I?Pet Kare is the place to go. Stop.Seriously -- if you are at all a pet lover, go pop in to Pet Kare's facility some day. Simply LOOK at the place! Even if you're not shopping yet. Just browse around and chat with their staff. Love this place so much I can’t stop going 🤣Amazing selection of fish … especially cichlids!!! If you want fish I’ll tell you mike is the man he knows his fish ! ! And big thanks to the manager Dakota for always being kind and helping out when I have tough questions!!! 100% recommend going to petkare if u need fish ! They also have a great selection of dogs , cats , snakes , Guinea pigs , and even a Parrot that can talk !! Go check them out Foreal !

If you call yourself an animal lover I would not purchase any animals or products from this location. The animals are kept in very poor and crowded conditions with terrible husbandry. The birds, and especially the budgies/parakeets are left out in the open for people to grab and mistreat which we witnessed. They also sell all puppy mill dogs it’s very sad.

We took our dog to pet kare because we knew he was overgrown and couldn’t get him into his regular groomer (who we love!) we asked for a simple trim and he came home looking like he just escaped a fire. I am devastated and more importantly, he has not been his normal self since we left yesterday. I will NEVER take my dog here again. I understand that he was probably a difficult groom, but a call to give us a heads up would have been the service we were looking for and this review would have been much different. I am so sorry that I put my dog through this. If you love your dog, please do not come here..

Katy/Katie was super helpful and knowledgeable. We had issues with another employee and Katie was able to effectively handle our issues. Very friendly.PLEASE do not take everything they say at face value. Some of the employees have no problem rattling off misinformation.

Horrible horrible dirty place. Puppy mill. Kitty mill. Birds jammed in together dirty dirty. Poor dogs are locked in cages no beds open crate floor where their paws get stuck. Shut them down. This is illegal. In crates all night. No one to play or take care of them. ASPCA will be notified. Do not buy. Probably sick pups. So sad

Huge variety , prices comparable, and it’s not easy to find a good selection of dogs to adopt other than the SPCA. They all seem to be in good health as I have adopted 2 over the years. The lack of 5 stars is only due to the price of the dogs . I don’t understand how an animal that isn’t a full breed so so costly.

The staff was friendly, surprised how many different items we could find there. The most important thing is, the fish is better stock than other pet stores. So far none of the fish has gotten ick or killed the rest of tank.

today makes the 4th time we had taken our dog to be groomed at petkare. we werent happy the 1st 3x, but since our dog is aggressive, we decided to stay with them. theresa, the groomer, was not good at her job, and very rude to us.. Now they have Ryan as the groomer. He did a WONDERFUL job grooming our dog and he managed to keep our dog calm the whole time... SO, IF YOU HAVE HAD A BAD EXPERIENCE WITH THE GROOMING, PLEASE RECONSIDER TRYING THEM AGAIN! RYAN DID A WONDERFUL JOB!

I just got my beautiful XL Powder blue opal Shubunkin a rare specialty species fish. I am so excited to see her healthy and healed her name is Blue Bell . My son also got his xl chocolate pleco that he has been looking for and his name is now Hershey Kiss. This store has some awesome amazing and exotic animals . Great selection of anything and everything you need to keep your pet healthy and happy.

Today I came here looking for a new addition to my fish tank. I have a peaceful community fish tank and wanted to add a peaceful addition from the cichlid family.Originally I came looking to buy a few discus but after seeing them I changed my mind. They were not swimming around, they looked stressed out, swimming in place at the top of the tank and 3 discus were at the bottom of the tank dead. I was really upset as I had my heart set on getting discus’. I assume they were under stress from their water condition. (Discus are hard to catch, find and hard to bread )However, I saw this beautiful fish in a top fish tank all alone with no tag and no price. Long story short, I was told it was a geophagus brasiliensis for 35.99. When I got home I actually noticed that she is not a geophagus brasiliensis but rather a threadfin acara. Also, she has hole in head disease. I noticed walking around that most tanks looked unhealthy and most had atleast one dead fish in them. I also bought 2 red parrot fish who were in a tank with fish who looked like they had ich. I hope my fish don’t have any serious issues/die and they don’t spread anything to the other fish in my community tank. I am slowly regretting buying fish from here.I thought I was safe buying from a fish in a different tank but I see now that is not the case.Also, one of the parrot fish has blackish tips probably due to ammonia burn. I probably won’t be buying fish here again. The tanks in this store need serious cleaning and more frequent water charges.

Where do I start, Do Not, I repeat Do Not take your pet here! I usually do not post about businesses, because sometimes it's a good day and sometimes it's a bad day. But what my dog went through, you shouldn't take the risk with your pet. I spoke with a women named Alison I had explained to her that dog just recently turned one year, and this would be her second grooming. I would have opt to take to her usual groomer but they were pretty booked and PetKare had an opening, so I took it. I informed her that I wanted the dog her cut low but not bald, she assured me not to worry that everything would be fine. The price that I was told was 50 dollars. Moving forward I got a call saying" that they had done all they could've for the dog, and to come get her."When I arrived to pick her up, my dog was disfigured and I was told the price was now going to be 75 dollars. When I ask why does she look like that, all said to me "that it could of been worst and that it was a miscommunication." My dog had patches in certain areas and was bleeding. She continued to say that the only way I can get my dog groom in future would be taking her to a vet and my dog was difficult. There was dirt in areas where her fur remained, I found it to be unacceptable and very unprofessional. These people are con artists please do not take your pet here! Would have given a ZERO if it would have let me!

While the staff at pet Kare is always friendly and helpful, the way some of the animals are kept is very upsetting. It is my understanding that some of the animals they sell are given to them to be rehomed, but animals that cannot be cared for properly shouldn’t be taken in even if it is a temporary thing. They have a fairly large boa imperator in a glass aquarium with nothing but a thin layer of substrate, some dirty water, and a hide the poor thing can’t even fit in. Ball pythons and leopard geckos were kept in similar manner. Multiple days worth of poop were strewn about the gecko tanks. They also had young bearded dragons with no linear uvb. It makes me want to purchase all these poor babies and give them a better life but I don’t want to support this treatment. I don’t know enough about rodents or fish to comment on the care of them but if it’s anything similar to the reptiles it’s not good. I’d recommend anyone looking for a new reptile to look for rescues or expos in the area.

My snake wasn't eating for 3 weeks, so after taking him to the vet, I went to Pet Kare 2 to pick him up more fuzzies. Luckily, I got to speak to Phil, who works in the fish and reptile department. I explained my situation, and he put my mind at ease with all my concerns. He suggested I try a different approach to feeding and give a live fuzzie. As soon as I got my snake home, I offered it to him, and he ate it. I highly recommend pet kare 2 for any questions and concerns you might have. Phil's knowledge and experience with reptiles is impressive!

The lady at the front helped me out with choosing my new pet rats. She was very nice and did not rush me. The animals were in a clean environment. I have had nothing but good experiences with this store. I highly recommend shopping for a pet there.

It's a decent size store. (Never dealt with their dog and cat department). Aisles are many, but low sitting. A bit cluttered. Service isn't friendly.
