If you’d like to be verbally attacked by miserable employees, shop here.If you’d like stocked shelves, fresh produce, meats and fish go to Big Y. They have friendly employees who are happy to help. Stop and Shop’s culture must be fine with hostile employees and outdated merchandise.

Always very clean; staff is friendly and helpful. They also seem to be consistently better stocked than other Stop & Shops I have been to in the past.

Is a nice place to find thing that you need, and the fact that is open until midnight really help when you have a busy day.the portable scan they have helps to make the shopping easier and faster at the checkout.

Very nice store, being from AZ compares to Safeway or Frys grocery stores. I'll say prices are somewhat more reasonable in CT. Sad but true. The city of Madison is lovely.

They need to turn down the temp of their freezers. The past few times I've gotten frozen items there such as ice cream I've noticed weird ice crystals in it that give it an odd gritty/crunchy texture (this is after it has been properly frozen at home). It wasnt until I was shopping there today that I realized it is because they have increased the tempurature of their freezers, I assume to save money. You can go in that store, take any container of ice cream off the shelf and it will be soft and mushy/half melted. There is no way they are keeping their frozen products at the proper temp range and if they are they are keeping it right on the cusp which means as people open the freezers throughout the day the temp rises above the required tempurature. This could actually be a health issue as there is a reason freezers are kept below a specific temp.

I lost my wallet at the self-check out area. After panicking when I couldn't find it in my car or on my person, called stop and shop, where I last remember having it. The wonderful women at check-out saved it and kept it until close, when I could come back a grab it after my work day. I feel terrible for not remember her name (wonderful lady with dyed red hair) but thank you, thank you, thank you!!! You saved my day

Been going here forever. Always consistent with food quality and quantity. The new renovations to the inside of the building are clean, neat, and make for an efficient shopping experience. I highly recommend trying the lunch buffet/pre-packaged meals near the deli.

Undoubtedly one of the most sophisticated grocery stores I have been to. The variety is gourmet and well stocked. I was most impressed with the ingenious time saving tablet kiosk to order from the deli. Followed by the rack of scan tools you can use while you shop so you can skip the lines. This incredible balanced rock is just to the left of Stop and Shop.

This is the second time I have come home to realize the produce is expired. Most recently lettuce (rotten on the top where you can't see until you open because of packaging) and a bag of (slimy) carrots labeled 3/21 by the manufacturer and again labeled 8/2/21 by the store? I was in a rush but didn't think I had to check the exp. month since produce gets eaten pretty quickly! I used to find shopping here quite decent until the last few years of expired food, low stock and confusing aisles. I will say the staff is friendly and helpful, they work hard.

The Madison store is going down hill fast! Check the expiration dates folks. They are selling can food that expired well over a month ago. Salad dressings, etc...Shop Big Y!

This place is a disaster. I got a few things that I needed to make monkey bread and headed to a self checkout register. Upon arrival, the machine was disgustingly filthy and sticky. The bagging area was dirty and the glass for scanning the groceries was practically black in filth. Nevertheless, we attempted to scan our groceries. The self checkout scanner was unable to read my items after trying scanning them several times. After scanning just one item the self checkout machine had a meltdown and said "please wait for assistance." This happened again, again, and again, until someone manually handled the issue. After trying to scan each of the items several times, they finally individually registered (or at least I thought they did). Next thing I knew, some lady with her lips dripping condescension approached and claimed that we missed a few items, acting like we were trying to steal. After finally scanning all of the items I inserted my card in the pinpad and wasn't surprised when the chip reader claimed that my card was unreadable. Never in my life have I had an issue with any pinpad machine reading my card except at the Stop & Shop of Madison, CT. We were unable to pay for the groceries due to the chip reader malfunction and left the store in frustration. Fortunately, Shoprite of Clinton was not too far down the road, and graciously accepted my business and gave me no problems. The prices were better, the self checkout machine had no issues, and most importantly, I was able to leave the store without a pounding headache. I will be bringing my business to there from now on.

I went in specifically for Fage Bestself lactose free yogurt - and they were out. It is not sold in any other local Stop & Shop. Seems like any lactose free dairy yogurt that they sold in the past they stopped selling. I hope this is not the case now. :(

I have lived in Madison for over40 years, So I remember all the controversy about the store been being built. Having said that, in the early years it was a well run store with people who actually cared about the customers. I have watched the steady decline in the goods and services provided. The store is filthy and smells horrible! I have recently downsized and I live downtown now... I will not shop there instead I travel to Guilford or Clinton to shop! What a shame that a very Senior citizen has to do extra driving because the in town grocery store is so disgusting. They should worry less about face masks and clean the disgusting store. Thanks, Nick Schaivone

This store has gone downhill. Not clean, the appearance when you walk in has dirty windows and floors. The floors in the aisles are very dirty as well.Low supplies and often outdated and have had to return food items when I realize they’re passed their due date more then once.Check out is slow and they are often short handed so self check out is backed up.When I tried to pick up “Perscriptions “ when they were on strike, I got loud horns blow at me and nasty comments.I hope someone takes this seriously.I was a regular customer of Stop & Shop since it opened, many years ago, and now, I avoid having to shop there at every cost.

Decent higher end stop and shop. Their sushi bar is good along with most of their hot food selections. Stay away from the hot Chinese food takeout. Better off going someplace local but good attempt stop and shop.

.I've been shopping at this location weekly for 23 years. The downhill pattern in cleanliness, product quality and availability and service, along with insidious price increases, has finally reached critical mass. While the handful of long-time staff continue to be hard-working and customer-centric, their efforts are overshadowed by the behaviour of the younger, newer staff. I am sincerely concerned about the overwhelming lack of hygiene--more than a few of these people look and smell dirty. I have had multiple houseguests come back from the store stunned by this, and asking how we tolerate it. Tonight, near the parking lot entrance, there was an employee sitting in the dirt under a tree, smoking and drinking. A few minutes later I watched him walk back into the store, and return to work without washing his hands. And then there is the young man with very long hair who simply cannot keep his hands off it. His hair is well past his shoulders, he leaves it loose, and has a habit of constantly shaking it out while continuously running his hands through it. I have never seen anyone who compulsively runs their hands through their hair like this, and I cant fathom why he would be allowed to do this around food. And to our great misfortune, there are several obese employees who routinely give off a foul, unwashed odor. These people are handling our food! And yes, the fish department smells, too. I have mentioned this several times to management, to no avail. And the store IS filthy--I have watched general cleanliness slip away over the last three or so years to the point where the store is depressing and unpleasant. Most difficult to tolerate is the poor product quality. For the last several years at least one of the produce items I purchase each week proves inedible. I do know it does not have to be this way, especially in the summer. (Visit the vegetable department at Big Y in July. THEY have gorgeous, local produce.) And since it's summer now, we can count on price increases and empty shelves, since they never seem to plan for the influx of summer visitors beyond hiking the prices. It's a disaster, and I will finally be moving on despite the inconvenience.

One of the cleanest stop n shop stores I've been to. Not my favorite place in the world to shop, but it's clean and they have what I need. Steep prices.

I only go here when I'm desperate. The store is dirty, items are overpriced and the store is poorly stocked. The deli meat slicing machines are filthy, and it smells like rotting fish when you walk by the seafood and meat area. To add insult to injury, there are few cashiers on staff which makes checking out a lengthy process. You have the option to check yourself out, which is faulty and results in needing an assistant to proceed. Needless to say, the assistant takes forever to get to you because everyone else is having the same issue. Store employees seem stressed and overworked.

Hi Madison Stop and Shop! We love that you are supplying COVID19 vaccines and we appreciate you as a resource in the community! We wanted to give a quick heads up for potentially a learning moment in order for other seniors to not be turned away for COVID-19 vaccinations. My mom is a senior who came for her COVID booster last week. She was asked for her Medicare card by the pharmacist. The pharmacist (who was very nice and apologetic) came back and said that the S&S system wasn’t accepting her medicare #, and said she couldn’t give her the vaccine that day. She advised a call to Medicare and said the number might be very old and pointed to the date of issue as an indication. We did call Medicare who said her number was up to date and usually does not change with time- and that the date of issue being ‘old’ isn’t really any indication; and bound to only get older the further my mom gets from age 65 :). Perhaps it was a one time glitch in the system; but wanted someone to know in case it’s a fixable error - so that other seniors aren’t turned away! Thanks for listening! And thanks for your great care in the shoreline community!

The worst run stop n shop on the shoreline they close customer service desk multiple times during the week before 6 pm and close lotto before 6 pm. They need better management the kids they have running this location are lazy and running it to the ground.

nice enough..there for 45 minutes. I think they were incessantly calling for clean up help in the natural foods aisle and produce for the whole time. it doesn't get past me that having about 8+ check-out yourself aisles open, one 12 or less and only 2 regular check outs is a cheap way to run the business. if this wasn't convenient I don't think you would ever see me in this store. its tired and small. if it has to be stop and shop I prefer branford or old saybrook. the selection of brands is very limitedovershadowed by s&s's own brands ...but I go there when I have to because of the convenience.

This is pretty poorly managed store. In the past month I have been in store where they have run out of staples like bananas and onions and today (a Saturday) I went to buy french bread only to find that they were all out of it as well as almost any of their other so called artisinal breads. The staff is very friendly and helpful but the people in charge are clearly asleep at the switch.

The staff is friendly and helpful but sorry this grocery store has gone way down hill in my opinion. They have raised prices, reduced products available and have that annoying machine that patrols the floor (maybe that's Branford S&S). The produce mediocre at best and is of the highest prices around. What's worse is that you can go to the Branford, Madison and Clinton stores and prices vary by sometimes up to $1! They should be ashamed how they gouge their patrons based on location. We only go there to return bottles and for sale items. While Shop Rite is much further they have comparable items at much, much better prices.

Good produce section and deli. Aisles narrow and often crowded or blocked with merchandise, inconsiderate shoppers, and carts of designated shoppers. Go early in the day to avoid congestion.

I moved to Madison a year ago and this is the worst supermarket shopping experience in my life. Self checkout is pointless since “assistance is required” for so many items so you have to just wait till the 1 person assigned to that job comes to help. Same applies if you are a scan it customer which makes using the scanners yourself a waste of time. There are never enough cashiers at this store because they want to save labor cost at the expense of our time. I’ve been there so many times when there are only 2 cashier and incredibly long line at cashier and self checkout. This is why so many people are choosing to buy online. And many retailers like stop and shop continue to make decisions that push people away from going to store to buy.Just spend the money to have more cashiers and improve the checkout experience.

I feel like this stop and shop has a weirdly small butcher offering and the produce is often unimpressive. Would be nice if they had better local offerings (cheese for one comes to mind). I'm at the point of giving up on stop and shop.
