I've been shopping at Cliffs for a few years now. The quality and variety of the butcher counter is outstanding! The staff is always cheerful and more than happy to answer any questions you have. It is a little expensive, which is to be expected. Even their frozen section is filled with several options that won't disappoint! Legitimately the best ribeye I've ever had.

Ive known this family since the early 1950s. The reason this owner and staff are so knowledgeable is because this is a 2nd generation run business. The first generation studied for Years under a butcher in Old Lyme back in the 70s. That teacher was arguably the best butcher in the area at the time. His prodigy, Cliff of Cliffs Meats, followed suit with Excellence in cutting, preparing, cleanliness and people skills to become the best butcher in his time. These guys know what they’re doing. It’s so nice going into a store that takes care of it’s customers like Cliffs. I was in there one morning, the phone rings, I could hear the person on the other end order a breakfast sandwich. The guy said “ok, it will be ready”. Didn’t need a name. Probably recognized the voice or maybe just had a level of trust that you don’t see in a large city.

So I ordered a liverwurst grinder with lettuce tomato onion and American cheese with horseradish sauce. What I got was a liverwurst grinder with onions American cheese and mustard. So the question is why bother asking what I want on my sandwich. ?

We've been getting our hamburger meat from Cliff's for over 30 years. Cliff and his staff are old-fashioned style butchers who know their way around any cut you throw at them. Their clients range from high-end restaurants to local folks like us who just want fresh, tasty hamburger that has some actual flavor. The store is also famous for their sandwiches and you can get your chips and soda right there. They have some side salads in the deli and they carry a variety of specialty foods and sauces for your meats. They have a wheelchair accessible entrance and can be convenient for a quick one or two item run, depending on the season. You can place your order over the phone and that’s a good idea during the holidays when customer orders for roasts and turkeys ramp up. Service is “New England-ish”, so don’t expect a lot of small talk. But if you have a question about meat and want a bit of an education, they’ll be happy to answer your questions. They’re closed on Sundays and Tuesdays so plan ahead. It’s a great local business to support and they’ve given a lot back to the community over the years.

Specialty meat stores are scarce and this one is a treasure: high quality butchering and meat, excellent service. There is an abundance of top complements to meat as well. The store is immaculately clean and the family who owns and runs it are nice people.

If you're looking for great quality meats, this is the place to go. They will custom cut for you. And they do special orders for things like Christmas & Thanksgiving. They also smoke their own stuff. Everything from bacon to kielbasa to seafood. They're the only place I know that has smoked shrimp & scallops. They have marinated meats as well. The thai chili chicken breast is one of my personal favorites. The apple cinnamon pork chops are as well.Looking for a sandwich? They make those as well. Lunchtime during the week they have hot meat sandwiches. Roast beef, turkey, pork loin, it all depends.When it comes to the register it is a bit on the pricey side, but you definitely get what you pay for. For 2 marinated pork chops you'd be looking at about $6.

Got a pretty bad attitude from the guy cutting the meat since he had to go in the back to get more of what was just sold out. My first time in, while the steaks were fantastic, his attitude needs to be addressed.

I was working at my friends shop down the road so Cliffs was convenient to grab a sandwich for lunch. I got the Smoked Turkey Breast and WOW was it good. Deli meat is usually Deli meat but you can tell this guy knows what he is doing. Next time I am around I will be revisiting!

Cliff's Quality Meats has been a staple in town for as long as I've been alive and certainly longer. I remember the old man letting us open up a tab when we were kids and him always chasing us down to open the big book.They still do everything in-house, the old fashioned way. You get what you pay for and it's worth every penny!
