I went in at the entrance off of rte 198. Pretty and peaceful. I especially liked the beaver dam pond, quite lovely in the fall. Easy hike on abandoned roadbed.

About 3 miles upstream from Diana's Pool. Really nice setting. Grilling is definitely possible, and grills are placed throughout.

Beautiful forest with hiking trails, fishing spots, and picnic areas. Certain areas have outhouse style bathrooms. Lots of trails suitable for horses and nearby Silvermine horse camp

Nice play to picnic and relax. Pretty river flowing by. Lots of fishermen. Picnic tables are okay but need an upgrade and some repairs. River in some places is fine for little kids.

Absolutely love the trails through here. They give a great feel of true New England. They are well maintained forests so you may see areas being thinned, and the trail is well maintained and easy to follow. Highlights include a small overlook (Orchard Hill), a solemn grove of evergreens, classic stone walls, and even old house foundations. There are many loops, including one that circumnavigates a pond.

It's a beautiful forest, a gift of the Earth. There's good folks preserving it and protecting from the ills of mankind. On my hike here I was glad not to stumble across any junkies making small batch crystal meth like I do in Pennsylvania State Parks. Natchaug is a good place to get your head in order so the rat race is easier to face

Great place for bird watching and fishing on Hampton's "Pine Acres Lake". There are spots along the lake's edge to view possible sightings of ducks, geese, and the occasional Great Blue Heron that visit the area. Many trails are also hidden inside the forest along with many old foundations from the past.

Was there VERY early spring. Lots of winter kill and general forestry cut downs. Will be lovely in later spring.Dog-friendliness: Saw lots of folks with their large dogs for a hike. Great place to do that.

Beautiful State Forest. Multiple hiking trails, including "CFPA blue" Natchaug Trail. Some trails connect to adjacent Goodwin State Forest.Natchaug River has good fishing spots, and there are multiple historic CCC buildings along Kingsbury Road. General Lyon picnic area is quiet and beautiful. Also has pit toilets.Note that the Route 198 entrance no longer connects to Kingsbury Road due to bridge damage.

This is just a great forest to visit. So many sights all around you. With the wet weather we've had, there were so many mushrooms I stated that it looked like Super Mario world... Truly enchanting!

Great hidden location. Picnic tables exist, swimming hole on the river, you need to carry your own trash out. Can be very crowded on the weekends.

Can not believe the picnic tables are still not out for the public to use. This has gone to far to long. Not acceptable 1 or 2 months fine. This is an obsession of power by someone

If you like the forest, this is just as great as every other state forest in Connecticut. Some nice elms here, as well as birch, oak, maple, and beech. Just stop dumping your litter and garbage here!
