Better value is your neighborhood grocery store. There meat's are nice but the produce needs a lot of work ( not very fresh most of the time). They have a nice selection of cheese but in general expect the prices to be a little more expensive because of being your small local market.

The prices for eggs and everything are astronomical and it is always wreaking of spoiled food the minute you walk through the entrance for years. I bought nothing.

An excellent hometown feel, this store is my favorite. The staff are all pleasant and cheerful, and genuinely care about how my day is going. Many of the locals recognize them by name, and will even point out when someone is missing! Many items that I cannot find in another store, Canterbury will have, and the selection is far greater than what one would expect when walking in. Don't let it's size fool you, this store is a delightful corner of our community!

I was just treated very rudely by the manager. There was a cash back issue where I wasnt given an option to use cash back on the machine, so the manager (a woman with red hair) said that it was my fault for not choosing debit instead of credit. So I asked them to ring the item up again and showed her that there was no option for it. She proceeds to shame me in front of a line of customers saying that it must not work because of the bank I use when I hadnt even inserted my card yet and she walked away while I was talking to her shouting “there’s nothing wrong with our machines it must be something you are doing wrong!” And slammed the door in my face. I will not be coming here anymore.

Support Local. Great small town supermarket. Their staff is friendly and helpful. Without Better Valu, we would have a minimum of a half hour round trip to a large chain store.

Great small market with lots of products, butcher and baked goods too. Vegetable sections are stock with the basic you need very fresh. Has a good quality of gluten free products too. Price are just a little more but you don't have to deal with the "BIG BOX" STORES. I like it, worth the trip.

Meat's are on Sale - 40 lb of Chicken guys are legs 4 $24 great box. I just want to get shell peanuts 🥜 for the birds and squirrels. They have the best quality for the price, I eat them to.. right now they have pork chops and chicken on sale. 8-1-22

It's okay. Probably should be 3 stars, but I give 4 due to being local and easy to access. The building is old and very outdated, there are a few spots iside with giant heaves and potholes in the floor.The food selection is limited to the most common brands, but moderately priced. I think they shine with their meat selection​ and quality. Also the dairy is pretty awesome, grinders here are the best around.

Interesting small independent grocery store. Happy to have found Stewart's Key Lime Soda. Haven't seen that for about 12years. All in all, a small but nice store. BTW...been a long time since I've seen meat prices in even numbers...$2.00, $5.00 per pound. Very nostalgic.

Great local market. They have all varieties of "EL Fudge" cookies, what more do you need to know?! And, besides all those typical grocery store items that they carry, at competitive prices I might add, they serve grinders and other ready to eat foods! My only gripe, is that they barely have any selection of veggies for those grinders! Offer up some better veggies and I will stop in for a grinder far more often..

This is my hometown grocery store so we're regulars here. They have really great meats and excellent prices on those meats even if they're not on sale. I don't do a whole week's worth of shopping here though because the prices on other things are a bit higher than some other stores in nearby towns. I'm glad to have them here though because there's plenty of times we need to run in and grab a few things and we can get in and out quickly so it's very convenient to have this store in town.

I happened to be nearby when the night manager was dealing with an older customer who refused to wear a mask while shopping. While the customer carried on about his legal rights not to have to wear one, the manager was professional, discreet, kind, and firm. The customer left after several minutes of trying to argue his case. Certainly, we've all seen scenarios like this spiral out of control quickly, but thanks to the professionalism of the night manager it was handled with grace and compassion. Thank you for keeping your store a safe place for everyone. A true gentleman.

Better values known for their meats. Many times they'll have sales and people will come in and buy two whole shopping carts with nothing but meat in them. Some of their other prices are steeper than Walmart but you're helping a local community store! Don't you think the Walton family has enough yachts?

For a small grocery store they got a lot, there homemade grinders are good, there meats are very good never a problem...The best homemade macaroni salad ever..a little on the high side .but the sales are good to save money..a great store if you just need a couple of iteams ...plus they carry raw milk right from the farm..

Sent my husband to this store and we were using foodstamps and the cashier had an attitude when he said I think you may have to press a button for it. Then had the audacity to say he should get a job instead of using food stamps. Dont reccomend never going back.

So this market is on my way home from work. It is very convenient, vegetables are always fresh, they have IGA brand alternatives, very friendly staff, and prices are good except on deli meats. Deli meat prices compare with Big Y, not like a Market Basket.

Grinders used to be really good and consistent, but for the passed 4 years I'd say they are the worst never consistent, sometimes I'll get a single layer of sandwich meat and enough lettuce to make 5 more grinders and other times it'll be enough meat for 5 grinders and the grinder is so big it just splits and goes everywhere. If I wanted to make my own grinder I would.. I wouldn't pay for someone else to do it and then get home and have to take the whole thing apart because there is too much meat. Honestly you shouldn't sell grinders anymore until they are consistently made the same

Store manager is a Covid Superhero! Don't even think of shopping here without your mask. The only store in Eastern Connecticut that is taking this pandemic seriously. This guy protects his employees and customers and creates a safe shopping experience for everyone. This guy rocks! Love this store and their staff. It doesn't get any better. The other rater nailed it on the head. A true gentleman.

For a small supermarket, Better Valu packs a punch! They offer better savings weekly on meats than the bigger markets, they sell alot of locally grown produce, and their staff is not just helpful but friendly and personable. All this and a VERY clean store give it a small town feel...something you don't get in the bigger markets, or in ANY of the bigger stores for that matter, nowadays.
