This is a great store with nice employees! I got a juvenile axolotl from them last summer and he (presumed male) has been doing fantastic! I was new to axolotls (been fish keeping for a while) and was glad to source a healthy one. At first I was really worried when I realized he had a fused gill, but it doesn’t affect him at all. He was 2.5 inches when I got him and is almost 9 now…big boy. I recommend this location for axolotls. In all honesty the one I got here for $35 is WAY healthier than an expensive one I purchased online (they are kept in separate tanks). If you do not have experience keeping fish or cycling aquariums be cautious in choosing an axolotl as a pet and do your homework so you don’t kill an animal.

I love having a trust-worthy herp shop in Boulder. Their bulk buy program is wonderful for feeding my snake. Their animals look well cared for and the staff is totally willing to discuss any questions customers might have.

I had absolutely the best experience today with Erica. She is so friendly, passionate ,and knowledgeable. She helped me so much figure out all the right things to set up my two new Dumpy tree frogs ( Lime and Lotus) . She helped me plan and create a beautiful waterfall system and taught me sooo much about bioactive vivarium , which I can say I am now a proud owner of. I learned about isopods and springtails The store is clean and I never felt rushed even though I asked tons of questions. Their cricket card is such a smart ideas. And if you buy stuff that you don’t need you can always return it for store credit. I am so happy with my experience and I just wanna shout out again to Erica!!!! Thank you - you rocked today! Now off to being a happy frog momma - knowing that if I ever go out of town for a long time- Lime and Lotus can come back and you’ll babysit them 🐸💚🐸💚🙏🙏thank you so much

This location has only been here for 3 months and I must say, it is my favorite location so far. I went in looking for 3 specific tarantulas and they had all 3. I ended up buying 2 of the 3 only because the other one was juuuuust barely too small of a sling. If it was a little bigger I would have bought all 3. The store was clean and didn't smell like a reptile store. The girl working there was more than helpful and knowledgeable. I never once felt rushed which is also a plus. The prices were noticeably better than the scales n tales in northglenn when it came to T's at least. I will most definitely be a returning customer! Thank you!

Extremely clean and well stocked herp store. Not only is there a nice selection and variety of animals, but also dry goods and feeders. But, most importantly, the animals are all very alert, clear eyed and fat tailed; signs that they are healthy, happy and well cared for. One other note, I did not see a single animal stuck in shed, or affected with water blisters, which indicates that they are being kept in enclosures with ideal humidity. No rubbed noses, which indicates they aren't stressed out, and I did not see a single lizard or turtle with metabolic bone disease, which indicates proper diet and UV lighting.I was a professional reptile breeder and lecturer for twelve years. I also was an Animal Control Officer for the city of Boulder for four years, and I can tell you that this is one of the nicest stores I've entered from here to California. Boulder is lucky to have such a fine representative of the reptile industry! Keep up the good work!!

I'm so glad to have a store like this close to my house. I really only go there to get food for my Russian Tortoise (they make a fresh salad once or twice a week and she loves it!). But they have all kinds of reptiles and other cool animals as well. I have told people about this place and they have had good experiences as well. I think the staff really knows a lot about the animals they sell. Seems like you can get everything online these days but it feels good to support someone in the community.

I simple hello or ANY acknowledgement could have prevented this.... But nope. Considering how small of a store this is it's impossible for the clerk to have not known we were there... For ten minutes... Picking out items for a $100 bearded dragon we wanted to buy.The guy was too busy chatting up a young woman who was buying feeders. Again. Had he AT LEAST acknowledged our existence at all I'd have been fine to wait a few minutes even for a short social exchange.I'll gladly drive the extra 20 minutes for anything reptile related to the North Glenn store because that was a huge waste of time driving a shorter distance to boulder.A simple, "I'll be right with you" or ANYTHING would have avoided this whole review. I bet the young woman was impressed that he handles venomous snakes though... What a let down...

This place is amazing. Super friendly and knowledgeable. They helped us get our 12 yo son a Milk Snake for Christmas. Ever since they have been a valuable resource for him as we go down our reptile journey. Always willing to answer our questions and make recommendations. Store is always clean and well organized and the animals look healthy and well cared for. They offer a "sitting" service for those long vacations or time away to care for your pets. There are other reptile stores closer, but we will always make the trip to Boulder to visit this store. Keep up the great work!!!

BEST reptile store ever! The employees never talk down to you and are wonderful with answering any of your questions. If they don’t know the answer, they will usually appoint you to someone who can. All of their animals in the shop look healthy and happy and never have fecal matter or old food laying about the enclosure. I wouldn’t hesitate a moment to get anything from them whether it be bugs, spiders or a new scale baby!!

We have a leopard gecko, and whenever we're in Boulder and need bugs for her, this is our go to. Generally always have what we need, and honestly wish we had bought our gecko here as we would of spent half the price. But we love her and that's all that counts.I knocked a star, because usually we get good employees, but there's been a few that talk down to you and there's no need for that.

Excellent store. All of the reptiles are well cared for and it is abundantly clear that the staff members have the best interest of the reptiles and invertebrates in mind. I am usually helped by Jackson who is very friendly and clearly knowledgeable about his job. I feel confident using this location as a source for feeders for my snakes.

My kiddo and I stopped in to check out the reptiles and had an unexpectedly delightful experience. Tim was so kind, helpful, knowledgable, and spent 1-on-1 time helping my 4 year old handle a gecko for the first time and answering all of his questions. It was an unforgettable experience for my son. Can't wait to go back when we are ready to bring a new pet home!

Was headed to the liquor store next door and accidentally went through the wrong door, and boy i’m glad i did. i’ve never been particularly fond of reptiles but now i’m a changed man. the young man working, I believe Jackson was his name, educated me on reptiles and critters of all sorts. i ended up purchasing me a lizard that very day. let’s just say i got home with a bottle of booze and a new friend ;)

I've been very impressed with the customer service in the Boulder store. We visited Scales 'N Tails last week solely to buy some caterpillars for my kids to watch transform at home. There were several other customers in the store who were purchasing much bigger ticket items (snakes and lizards), and even though we were just there for a few caterpillars, the store clerk (I believe his name was Jackson) gave my kids the same full level of attention and detail that he gave the other customers --answering my kids' numerous detailed questions about caterpillars without a hint of impatience or annoyance. We had a great experience in this store thanks to Jackson!

Super well-organized and clean store with extremely knowledgeable staff. They can service all your reptile needs (food included) and give really great and logical advice, as well as practical financial tips for dealing with your reptile equipment. I was truly impressed with the store and the staff with just a few visits and I'll now be going back regularly. They also have an awesome super friendly shop dog, who is an excellent greeting party.

Super clean store and very helpful staff! The prices aren't too bad, it would be impossible to find reptiles on the internet for any cheaper after factoring in shipping. All the animals looked healthy and well cared for. The staff was also super knowledgeable and friendly. I wish I had a reptile shop like this to visit in my hometown.

I was feeling down, dejected, sorrowful, miserable, gloomy, despondent. I was walking around Boulder when I stumbled across Scales N Tails. I walked into the store when I got the friendliest, affectionate, most helpful guy you could ever hope and ask for. I believe his name was Jackson. As soon as I walked out of the store I came out of the store a changed man. Now i’m happy, contented, cheerful, and gleeful. This was all thanks to the employee named Jackson

My daughter and I visited the store today obrowse the lizards and snakes. Jackson was incredibly kind and knowledgeable! My daughter especially loved meeting "Hoss" and holding a gecko! Jackson was patient with all of my daughters questions and had great enthusiasm for the animals!

She is so smart any questions about anything anytime of the day just know shell have the answers you need. Her customer service is OUTSTANDING. She has definitely made scales n tails boulder my new go to for any reptile/animal needs

This is a fantastic local place to go for exotic pet supplies. The staff are incredibly knowledgeable and care deeply about the animals' needs. I can't speak to the animals themselves since I didn't go there to adopt, but they seemed very lively and comfortable with being handled.
