I’ve been a member for over 25 years, so I might be biased, but I Love REI. YES capital L love. You really can’t beat their service, at least as far as it goes for Members. I recently had a few returns, one of which was pushing the 365 day limit but within by a day or two, and there were no issues! They have all the gear I need and then some, and their website is a go-to for doing online research ahead of any related purchase. Plus, get the Cap1 credit card and get awesome rewards points!

Finally a proper REI. Crazy good gear selection. More product options than any flagship REI I’ve been to. For once I don’t have to go to other gear stores to pick up random items.

Hannah in the bike shop of this REI was very kind, thoughtful and patient to helping me pick out what I needed for my bike maintenance routine. She spent time explaining all the whys and hows as I am a beginner in bike maintenance. Thank you!

Adam R. was absolutely amazing in boot fitting. We came in to try one boot and he went through everything and was so patient in trying all sorts of boot modifications with us. Learned so much about not only ski boots but our own feet. Clearly passionate, kind, and overall fantastic.

No complaints here. All the staff I've ever interacted with are helpful and knowledgable. Sure, the line can be long...but it's an outdoorsy store in one of the most outdoorsy cities in the country...What do you expect? The people in reviews who complain about REI not taking back product after they destroyed it are probably the same people who abused the old return-policy, i.e. why they had to get rid of it.Support great brands and local employers 👍

Super disappointed in the work this REI puts out. A few months back I had a bike crash and brought my bike out here to have them review everything and make sure my bike was good to go. When I got it back the bike felt unstable and very washy. Come to find out my front tire was super loose, back tire was also loose, both needed to be trued, and my fork was also loose among a few other little things. To top it off, I also had them repair my snowboard that took an absolute beating from Southwest in Utah. While the edge repair seems to be quite sound, I also paid for a full tune that included a hot wax. When I got it back I went up to WP on a powder day and they straight up did not wax my board, the thing was sticker than gorilla duct tape.Needless to say, I won't be letting this place touch anything of mine going forward. I can't say I've had the same experience with the REI in Denver, but I'll just stick to smaller shops that know what they're doing.

Shoes falling apart after 8 months. REI will not take them back and said that is normal wear and tear. $160 dollar shoes! I bought them for my 15 year old son and he has used them for maybe 50 miles at the very most. The shoes were falling apart in multiple places, but the cashier told me that he could tell we must have done something wrong because some foam that was exposed where the seams failed looked funny to him. These were Solomon shoes which are normally decent but in this case they seem to be poorly made. I have been shopping at REI for maybe 35 years pretty consistently. Never thought I would see customer service like this at REI. Never thought they would not stand behind their products. I mean...shocking compared to the old days! Pretty sad to think that is very likely the last time I will enter the store. There are just too many other options these days, especially in Colorado.

It was $48 to mount ski bindings here last season as a member, this season it’s $84, a 75% increase in just one season. It’s a shame as REI used to be the place you could trust to have your skis mounted affordably. Really disappointed as this was a huge perk and part of the reason I joined the coop.

REI has lost its way. I brought back a pair of microspikes purchased in December of 2023, mid Jan 2024 that have broken. They brought the manager over who explained that this was a normal amount of time for these to last (less then 2 months) given my activist usage(Boulder CO resident). The notion that REI would turn away a serious outdoors person with a failed product was unthinkable to me. The value prop of REI over online retailers who often have items on special is their excellent service. No more I guess.

Most incredible ski boot buying experience ever, specifically because of Sophie and her colleagues! She just might be the best bootfitter in the state, and that still feels like an understatement. When researching where to buy boots online, a lot of people said the best place was specialized bootfitters like Evo. I went through them at first and ended up with boots that fit worse than any rentals I'd ever used.I stopped into REI for something else and noticed a pair of used boots I liked. Sophie started by measuring my feet and checking that they didn't at Evo, specifically my heel flex and Achilles shape. She pointed me in the direction of another pair of used boots that were incredible. She had me were them for about 30 minutes while teaching me about ski flex to see if there were any pain points. When one was identified she did the molding process with foam on my foot to ensure that pain point expands.I cannot overstate the care she put into making sure the boot fit was perfect and I was knowledgeable about every part of the process. We spent a little over an hour together making sure everything was perfect with the boots. A huge thank you again Sophie!

Bike department is not good. Staff members Marty and Matt said my business is not welcome cause I was only asking relevant questions.Very grumpy. Although Jacob from the bike department was nice and friendly.

Went to the sleeping bag section and asked to try some out and the employee helping me could not have sounded more annoyed to have to do his job & pull them down (as if he was doing anything else besides sitting on his phone). I asked what the lightest of the 0 degree bags were and he said “haha a lightweight 0 degree bag doesn’t exist”….ok, not what I asked. Then he said “do you REALLY need a 0 degree? Most people just think they’ll get really cold so they go for the 0 degree bag and regret it”. So I explained how I’m going to be climbing Mount rainier in May (this was back in March) and need something to keep me warm in unpredictable weather. This idiot tried to sell me a 30 degree summer bag. I’m really glad I didn’t listen to him and settled on a 15 degree bag. Base camp at 10,000 feet was sitting right at 10 degrees at night and I was just warm enough, the summit was 8 during the day. Just goes to show that REI will hire any arrogant idiot in Boulder who claims they know about outdoor gear. Do not listen to these people or ask them questions, they don’t know anything and will get super upset if they have to do their job & help people.PS anybody wanting to get ski/bike work done come to rebel sports in frisco we will never make you wait in long lines or over charge you & we do an excellent job every time and will fix it no cost if not.

I've enjoyed shopping in the Boulder REI store many a time over the years. I always seem to find what I need, or stuff that I don't really need, but want to buy regardless. I haven't needed expert help, so I can't really speak to that aspect of the shopping experience. I would say that I was a bit surprised that the bike section didn't have a larger selection of bike relate stuff. This is Boulder, Colorado after all, one the the cycling Meccas of the U.S. I also was a bit surprised that the climbing department didn't have a bit more equipment selection on hand.....as rock climbing is the other thing that Boulder is known for.

REI branded products are much lower quality than competitors. Only comes with one year warranty which they often refuse to honor.Does have somewhat okay selection of other brands though.

It's an excellent store. It's a whole different level than LLBean. But So lazy. On Saturday February 3 2024 it was snowing. At 6pm, I called all of its phone numbers and checked the website. It didn't state that they'd closed for the snow. That's laziness. They must state on their voicemail and their website that they have closed before the 8pm time stated on Google Maps and on REI's website.

Today is November 10. I was in the Boulder location today and they’re expecting me to wait in line for 45 minutes plus six customers ahead of me that wanted to get their skis and snowboards waxed who were having to also wait in lineanybody could’ve just dropped off and been gone I just wanted to cable for my bike. The lady at the front told me she couldn’t help Losing a $5000 customer over a seven dollar cable doesn’t make much sense By the way, Crystal snowboard and ski shops right next door they’ll never make you wait their locals…. Teddy in Backcountry Footwear was very helpful, really knew his stuff about foot size, lasts, and differences between manufacturers EG Merrell vs. North Face vs. Salomon. And Teddy in the bike shop was helpful with the full suspension bike I want...

Just got the most adorable Keen water shoes for my granddaughter! I also found some quick dry pants with the help of a truly wonderful sales associate at REI. She was totally knowledgeable and incredibly awesome! REI is never short staffed. They always have the nicest people working there. Then when I went to check out, the friendliest and funniest cashier I have ever experienced made paying fun! This store is da BOMB!

This is the worst REI location I have been to. There is always a long line at check out, to the point I have put back items because it was not worth waiting in line. But my biggest compliant is the returns department. I tried to return an item that was supposed to be waterproof. A month into ownership it was starting to wear more quickly than expected but I figured it wasn't bad enough to return. 7 months after purchase I finally decided to return them as it was no longer waterproof and useless to me. REI declined the return saying it was too worn out. I rarely used this item and wanted to return it because it was wearing out much faster than expected and not worth the $200 I paid. Not accepting a return after 7 months devalues everything in the store. I wouldn't have paid $200 if I knew I could return it if it broke within the year return policy. If anything this is a manufacture defect since it is no longer waterproof and should be able to be returned at anytime. I am strongly reconsidering all REI purchases after this encounter.REI - if you read this please explain why a leaking waterproof item 7 months after new is non-returnable for REI members. Thank you.

Great store, the staff was very helpful and knowledgeable. Someone different checked on us at every area and made sure we knew where everything was. We're staying at the Embassy next door and got bored inside so we built a snowman outside today to welcome you guys back in the morning after the snow storm!

No idea who is running this company but every year the shopping is experience gets worse, and every year I spend less money. Not long ago you could walk into any store, find multiple options, and friendly helpful passionate people available to make you feel good about spending money. Not any more. Far less brand options, but worse is less made in USA stocked than ever before. Products you expect to be in stock frequently out of stock. Saddest of all is how stores no longer have the employees to help you. I was happy to pay more for the in-store shopping experience with experts who have used the gear and experts who have passion. The employees no longer care. I just expressed my concerns respectfully in the store and the clerk told me to tell someone else who cares. REI you are sad and pathetic now.

Jenn was fabulous! We talked on the phone and set up a meeting. My purchase was a bit complicated, but she arranged everything, including talking to a manager and getting my package ready for when I got there. She did a good review of the item for me and discussed options. A great employee and kind person. Thanks!

Helpful and friendly staff. Great at helping you find what you need. REI store brand is usually a great deal for many different items from apparel to camping gear. Membership offers a 10% rebate at end of year based on total sales.

Max in the shoe department was very knowledgeable and helpful! He took time to talk with me about what I liked and disliked about different trail/approach shoes and gave me helpful info on the features of each model. I never felt rushed towards a purchase, which is often my experience at retailers. Appreciate you dude!

I was in REI to buy a new pair of hiking boots for my sensitive, finicky feet, and I had the best person I could imagine helping me. Whitney was incredibly knowledgeable and beyond patient with me trying on numerous pairs of boots, looking for the quintessential Cinderella shoe. Well, we found it, which I believe wouldn’t have happened without her assistance. She asked a lot of questions that helped to hone in on the perfect boot for me. Seriously, if you need help finding new hiking boots, ask for Whitney.

Get a membership! It’s just a one-time $30 fee, and totally worth it. On top of a very generous one year return policy, you also get 10% back on all full-price items. The return policy makes it so much easier to dial in your gear, since you can try items out in the field and bring them back if they don’t work for you. This is especially helpful for tricky items like shoes that really need to be used a little while before you know if they work for you. Also, the staff are super helpful.

The staff at REI are incredibly friendly and kind. Specifically the bike shop. When I had an issue come up during my rental, Adam was really supportive and understanding.

Shoe department service was really abysmal. I explained in detail what I wanted, and store personnel had absolutely no information about the differences between shoe brands or models. It was like I was dealing with an employee who started yesterday with no training. Shoes are a specialty and I would think that a supposedly premium dealer, like REI, would have more knowledgeable people on staff.

Somewhat of a pretentious staff (I never claimed to be an expert, dang!) , but this is expected across Boulder. Good selection so it's not all bad, but I would recommend other retailers in regards to prices, first.
