McGuckin has been core to every holiday and project for my family.Staff here are always incredibly helpful and well informed. I’m yet to find a question that McGuckin staff can’t help with.Their seasonal decor changes for every holiday. They have an amazing Halloween section in October, with pumpkins and pumpkin carving kits, Halloween lights, and other decorations. In the winter they have isles of Christmas decorations and tree ornaments.They even have amazing garden and pet sections. All of our random and seasonal shopping can be fulfilled at McGuckin Hardware, the best local store for anything and everything.

Really disappointing experience today. They were unwilling to honor pricing that was both advertised in their phone greeting and further confirmed by telephone prior to making my trip to the store. Raising the discrepancy at the checkout register, with a corresponding call by the clerk to the manager, had no effect. The only explanation I got was "every one wants them now", and they had not had a chance to update their phone greeting yet. That seems pretty lame to me.So much for wanting to support local businesses...EDIT: For lack of a better way to respond to owner's comments... we called this morning to confirm availability of the item. In the process I'm quite sure the greeting noted a sale price for the item ($0.49 for solar eclipse glasses), but in any event I dialed "2" to speak with someone in sporting goods to confirm availability before making the trip. In the process the gentleman not only assured me there were plenty available, but volunteered that they were only $0.49, and guided me to go to the north register area to find the item. Once in the store I was informed the price was now $2.99, and there was no consideration for what had been represented previously.In the overall scheme of things this is not worth the time taken to write this review, but I found the lack of willingness to either acknowledge a mistake or otherwise honor what was represented to be an indication that integrity and customer loyalty aren't the highest of priorities. Just my opinion, of course.

I went in to find some nuts for my couch, and Walt was very helpful and got me exactly what I needed! He was so sweet and knew everything! If you need help finding any nuts or bolts, I definitely recommend finding Walt to help you! 😁

Been coming here for decades, hands down the best hardware store with the best service. Today, like always, someone asked me how they could help within minutes of stepping into the store. The good folks here also know what they’re talking about unlike the big box discount stores. Please keep the tradition going!

7/4/22- I'm not sure if you should call this place a hardware store or not. They spend more room on socks then they do for kitchen or bath features but together. This is more like a store of the random. If you are looking for something specific they may not have it but you may just see something you want in the toy section. They even have a school supply/office section. They also have a pet section that is bigger then most grocery stores have.

Had the 4oz isobutane fuel canisters that REI did not. A really cool place with quality items, a little bit of anything you could need and nice folks too! Definitely not your average hardware store!

Absolutely the best hardware store ever. Something for everyone. Fantastic kitchen section. Super great and helpful staff. Hands down the greatest hardware store I have ever been in. Loved that it is pet friendly. Met a few wonderful pups while we enjoyed shopping. They had everything we could ever need!! Phenomenal selection of socks!!

Me and my father came to the store in search of fishing licenses. Seeing as we had great experience shopping at McGuckin's previously. When we approached the desk to purchase the licenses the worker said he had "Forgot his login password" and said he would call someone to open the app for him. We waited patiently for 25 minutes and then my father asked politely if the system is working, the employee said and i quote, "I'm dealing with a customer at the moment, wait your turn". There was no customer to be seen, not physical or on call. The employee eventually came to unlock the computer. I stated I was under 16 and therefore did not need a license, she still created one.

Authentic locally owned hardware store and lots more. You can probably find anything you need here, including very friendly and knowledgeable employees. Hardware (nuts and bolts section ) once boasted over 10,000 items!I always go here first before the “big box” stores to support local workers and keep my money in the community. That they have whatever I need is a bonus. Sometimes we just to to learn about products and alternatives to fixing, building, repairing that we may not have discovered yet. Best in the area for sure.

Ordered a set of Kahtoola Microspikes (snow/traction devices for your boots), online for 50% off, a great deal! Size large was in stock online when I purchased them. I received an email confirming my order. I went to the store to pick them up and was told my order was cancelled. I received no email cancellation. Upon returning home and checking the website, they are now listed out of stock. So, they were definitely in stock when I ordered them but apparently someone else bought them at the store while McGuckins let my online order sit (they didn’t sit the items I purchased aside for me like they are supposed to). I drove an hour round trip to pick them up, but came home empty handed. Disappointed. First and last purchase at McGuckins.UPDATE: The cancellation was sent and received but in my spam folder, even though the original online order confirmation email came from the same email address. Why this happened I don't know. When I didn't see the cancellation or the "second email" but had ordered the product 2 days prior, I figured I'd just drive to the store and if it hadn't been set aside I'd just grab it off the shelf. Thanks McGuckins for clarifying and I do see that you sent the cancellation. Sometimes technology doesn't always work as intended and I understand potential inventory issues on your end as well. If I could give this place a zero I would. They had a ton of Thymes Fir items on their website at 70% off. I Ordered several items only to go in for pickup and they had ONE of the 23 items I ordered AND wouldnt be fulfilling my order of the other 22 items they said they had in stock and i paid for..... After driving from Denver to Boulder I'm pretty disappointed and disgusted. McGuckin Hardware, If you don't have it in stock don't advertise it online and show availability, and allow it to be added to the cart and paid for. Absolute horrible practice. I won't shop here again.

Pretty disgusting that the staff here continue to sell a product expired by months…this was purchased 10/24/23 product expired 4/15/23.*they responded on 10/25/23 claiming they check inventory every 2 weeks but there is no way they actually do considering my friend purchased the same product months ago that was also expired, a company full of liars and I will never spend my money at this store ever again. You’ve just made a lifelong Home Depot customer out of me.0 out of 5 stars is appropriate.

This is the most amazing store for service and range of products.Here is the list of items I went in to purchase:- Mortar and Pestle, Distilled water, Gas for barbeque, Food Scale - guess what ? They had everything on my list!!I friggin love this place!!

I would like to apologize for popping off in your store today. My feelings were hurt and my default fear response was anger. I was in such a sing-songy good mood and I was caught off guard. I love this artist's heaven of endless beautiful creative possibilities. As soon as I walked in two lovely ladies took my infold and walked me, not just pointed, to a man who could answer my questions and he even pulled a coworker in to consult. I am working on a very important project that is dear to my heart and I was on a rare day trip into town to search for a few very specific final details. The next gal I bumped into helped me gather materials and walked me over to the service shop to see if I could be spared buying a tool I may not use again. All awesome customer service, I am well cared for, comfortable, and very happy. This is where things started going sideways. I will note, that happiness doesn't always come easily for me. I take steps, I work at it, so when the mood strikes I am happy to be happy. I am extra, I know, but but it is better than the alternative. Well, the sour puss behind the counter was clearly perturbed by me, barely lifting his gaze and being snarky. I ignored it because whatever dude, I am going to enjoy my day. I collected a few things, came back, and tried to explain my service request. It was actually very simple, I needed one hole drilled into four bricks. As an artist, I was intentional about my choices and felt good about it. I explained where I wanted him to drill, 'put this metal piece in the center, drill in the hole.' I said it slightly differently a few times because he wasn't looking at me I couldn't discern if he understood. I figured it was so simple and I felt like he needed his space, so I offered to come back whenever he was able to complete it. No big deal, but it seemed like I was still doing everything to annoy him. I left and returned some time later to find to task done incorrectly. I was baffled until I realized that he literally just hadnt listened to me. Standing two feet from me, he was so busy hating on me in his head he couldn't even input a ridiculously simple request. I was bummed, but not about the brick, that is not nearly as upsetting as his attitude. Oh well. As if what was important to me was actually insignificant, irrelevant. Absolutely unapologetic. At this point, it was getting late and I get uncomfortable driving in the dark. To me the purchase was important and the mistake was feeling significant. I want to say... you can't see pain. You don't know what people are walking around with, even if they are smiling. I don't think it was intentional, but some part of him wanted to spoil my mood and sabotaged the basic task. Well, good job, accomplished. I am back to the safety of solitude and still spinning a bit. It's a big bummer. Do better guy. Peace

This is the best hardware store anywhere! Period. End of story.I've been shopping at "McGuck's" for nearly 40 years. The diverse offerings at this store make it a Boulder, CO, favorite. Last time I was there I bought from the housewares, electrical, automotive, gardening, seasonal, and pet departments! Next visit: hand tools!Knowledgeable and friendly employees that always have a treat for dogs who visit the store. I will be shopping here the rest of my life!

Always the first place to check! McG has a reputation for inflated prices, but that’s not generally the case, especially for more expensive items - power tools for example - McG is typically very competitive in price. Probably not the best place to buy a pack of gum, but that’s probably not why you came.

McGuckin's is *the* one stop shop. If they don't have it, you don't need it. Remember when you used to be able to find someone in the hardware store who knew not only what you were talking about, but where it was? You can still get that at McGuckin's.

I am handicapped. It is a very large store. They have no electric cart's and so by the time i was done getting a few simple things, i was beat, using only my cane and a basket to lean on as a walker... They said they had a wheelchair but it was manual and i have bad arms. Bottom line, i cannot shop there again and recommend others in my position to go elsewhere, sadly. Doesn't feel very neighborly. Can you, will you correct this situation with 4-6 carts so we can all enjoy a cool store with knowledgeable people?

I was transfered 4 times today when I called to inquire about ordering a custom screen door. Additionally my call was disconnected twice. After the last disconnection, no one called me back because they didn't even take down my phone number. Nice people but very disorganized and bad processes. My issue remains unresolved.

Who doesn't love McGuckin!!?!! They have everything! I love the store, but NOT service... I'm posting this review because I'm super disappointed in the customer service we had around a special order. Ordered a storm door with screens to improve airflow in the house this summer. First, no one in hardware knew how to order the door without the manager's help - who was busy... So they took down all my information and said someone from reception would then call me for payment. Four days went by without a phone call, so I stopped by in person to find out the status of the order and make payment. Reception told me that we didn't have to pay until the door came in.Now, the woman in hardware who took my order told me the door could take 3 to 5 weeks. After five weeks passed and I had received no call for payment still, or any word about the door, I called to check on the status.Reception couldn't help, and the sales gal in hardware told me she would have to check on it and would call me the next day. When she didn't, I called the following day and she said she had been too busy to get to it (!) She called me back later that day saying she would have to talk to the buyer who was out for the next three days.When I finally heard back, it turns out the door was NEVER ORDERED because they actually require payment up front!!!6 weeks had now passed (half of summer!!) and the door still had to be ordered...Luckily, the buyer got on it and said they would do everything they could to expedite it from Larson. It did come into McGuckin in 2 weeks...But the final snafu is that after it arrived to the store, they never called to notify me. I only found out when the installer called to say he had already picked up the door because they had notified him and not us! 🤦🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️I will think twice before making a special order at McGuckin's ever again...

This is one of the best hardware stores anywhere! You will find what you need here. My only complaint is honestly the harassing employees!! They are worse than vultures circling a carcass or used car salesmen. Can't go 2 minutes without someone confronting you. Makes it hard to enjoy the store

Great store! I actually had an issue returning an item and they made an error. Left angry. Next day the manager called me and proactively resolved everything. Really good customer care and I’m very satisfied.

Yesterday, I purchased a brand new pair of sunglasses at McGuckin's in their Sporting Goods section which broke around the lens when putting them on this morning. Unfortunately, my only other purchase was seed which I laid down on my yard. As such, I threw away my receipt upon leaving.When I called the store to inquire about their return policy and to explain the situation, the first thing their representative said was, "I just can't see how that could even happen. People try to do this all the time."People rave about Boulder's friendly, local hardware store and I was a relatively new fan and customer after living here for close to a decade. The accusation that I am dishonest or lying has me prepared to go literally ANYWHERE else in the future.100% fine not to exchange the glasses based on a return policy, 100% offensive to accuse me of breaking them and then trying to get away with a dishonest exchange.
