Rented uphill equipment here and the staff were so helpful and friendly! It was my first time uphilling, and it took some time to figure out everything, but the demonstration didn’t feel rushed. The gear was good and returning it was very simple. Will definitely rent here again!

My personal favorites were: the hangboards hung up in the doorway and the English bulldog puppy near the rental counter. Honestly super fair prices and they have everything you’ll need from entry level to pro items. I wish they had a sale on the Leki running poles.

What an amazing staff, great selection of items you need and very reasonable prices to match! You will not find a nicer, more insightful staff than the crew at Ute Mountaineer. My wife and I received excellent customer service from my first phone call about renting gear with Alex to discussing hikes and gear needed in person with Evan and Alex. Their expertise of gear and the entire Aspen area is unreal and their willingness to share these insights with anyone is so nice. The ability to chat with Evan and Alex about anything from summiting a 14er to easy hikes around Aspen shows what culture has been created at Ute Mountaineer. My wife and I were shocked at how nice everyone on the team was regardless of what you happen to be buying or even how busy they happen to be. Any negative reviews about staff must be from some other store because what I saw multiple times over a few weeks was nothing but professional every single time. I have been to many outdoor stores around the world and never been more impressed than with Ute Mountaineer. Thank you for the amazing selection, good prices and for an amazing staff with great insight! Keep at it Evan, Alex and Ute Mountaineer team!

Found it very frustrating that they cut off rentals at 5:15, but post that nowhere on their website. I tried calling several times before heading over, but got voicemail. On arrival at 5:40 the store was empty, save a handful of idle and deeply apathetic employees.Two were talking to one another, one standing buckled into a pair of display boots, both inconvenienced by my interruption of their evening.Bristlecone in Basalt will take much better care of you.

Great outdoor outfitter shop! I've been stopping in at Ute Mountaineer since back in the days when they had the smaller shop on Mill St. with the neat upper level. Ute Mountaineer is certainly a great place to pick up small items you may need like fuel canisters or water purification tabs, or larger gear.

This is the best outdoor gear store I've ever been to, hands down. My wife and I went in when while we were on vacation and one of the staffers named Charlie helped us out. He was great - extremely helpful and informative and made our experience fun. He also gave us some great recommendations for an awesome hike and other activities. The store's inventory was incredible as well. We look forward to going back next time we visit Aspen.

This is one of the best places in town to shop. I recommend just popping in and asking questions, whether you're looking for anything that day or not. The staff are generally outdoorsy and knowledgeable themselves. I got a full AT setup from Ute and couldn't be happier with the decision. Evan did the mold and refitting on my boots two years later and they still didn't charge me for the hour. Thanks to him I'll be skiing again this year. Awesome store.

I always love Ute but Kyle made my experience buying new ski boots exceptional. It was my first time buying uphill ski boots so I had a lot of questions and needed lots of help/adjustments. He was very knowledgeable, patient, and fun to work with. I got boots I love and he even helped me get them heat molded for a perfect fit. Thanks Kyle!

Fantastic customer service at this store! The sales associate that assisted me was extremely knowledgeable about the clothing I needed. I purchased a sale Mountain Equipment jacket & a Arc’teryx base layer. Brick & Mortar stores will survive with this type of service. The cashier was nice to offer a rewards program to me also.😊

We went there to rent a bear vault (which was super cheap btw). We were taken care of by a really helpful male employee. He was really efficient and was not too pushy which was just a relief. Great advice and amazing selection of goods! When we went back, everything went smoothly and we even had a very pleasant conversation with a female employee who remembered us. We were really surprised to find such a great place in the middle of Aspen's luxury stores! Good job guys! Keep up the good work!

Very useful place. The staffs are very helpful and knowledgeable. The prices are reasonable, which is a big deal in Aspen. Open until late. It is my preferred place to buy hiking gear if I am in Aspen/Snowmass area.

By far the best local store for all outdoor apparel and gear. The staff here are friendly and knowledgeable. Also, they don't jack up the prices like other outdoor stores in the area - they sell everything at MSRP. Bob Wade is a local legend. Family run, local shop, been around since the beginning, can't go wrong.

Staff was extremely helpful. I came in during the middle of the day, in the middle of summer, told them what I needed and was shown a fairly large selection of equipment. When I needed more on specific activities and what would help, there was no-pressure advice. Prices are moderately high, but that is expected all over Aspen.

The Ute is a great place to go for both outdoor style casual clothing and all your technical gear needs. They have all the equipment for camping, hiking, backpacking, skiing, climbing, and more. The staff are all very knowledgeable and want to help you pick the best product to fit your needs, wallet, and ability level. Plus they have a large selection of different brands too. Perhaps one of the best things they offer is top of the line rentals for backcountry skiing, including beacons, probes, and shovels. Go check them out!

This shop has a great selection of outdoor gear. From camping supplies for your dog to Alpine touring gear. The staff is friendly and very knowledgeable. If you are in Aspen check it out.

Terrible advice for newcomers to the area. We rented snow shoes for me and a 10yr old daughter just out of a broken arm cast but realised pretty quick we had absolutely no need for them. I had spoken to them and told them we would only be going local. We returned them midday and no refund was offered or given on request. Grrr. Not going back there!

Ive lived in steamboat a couple years now and came to do the four pass loops trail. Unforunately, due to some incorrect data, i was unable to go. However, Kyla (i think) was SO helpful in figuring out a backpacking trip i could do in my time restraints. So very helpful! Highly reccommend. Staff are knowledgable and very friendly and helpful.
