I have been buying books at Explore for four decades. I typically visit Aspen once a year to ski around the December holidays. I take time to visit the store and buy a book for each of my nieces. Now grown with families of their own, my nieces and my grand niece always get a book shipped from the store in December I always wish I had more time to explore every nook and cranny in the store. Fortunately, I always get back the next year.

Such a nice place and the lady who serves us was very nice, kind and helpful. The location has 4 rooms, each room dedicated to special features, like kids book, travel and nature books, memoirs book and new books! There are spots where you can sit down and just read ! Totally recommending it for the book lovers out there, when passing throw Aspen.

Lovely indie bookstore in Aspen. I stop by there whenever I am in Aspen Snowmass for ski trips or summer vacations. They were able to pull books for me to pick up and I even won a contest years ago where they sent me a box of novels. Very helpful staff. Love supporting this local treasure whenever I’m in town from Texas!

Fantastic location for books. One of those lovely old buildings with floor to ceiling books. They have new books (not used) and a small selection of new vinyls as a bonus. Got several books and left wishing I were a local so I could come back and visit again

Located in a beautiful old house, this 50-year old bookstore has a welcoming, knowledgable staff and a great selection of books. There is an attractive restaurant space space upstairs, currently closed: i hope to see it open and thriving on my next visit. (I suggest a japanese/med theme!)

The staff was very knowledgeable and recommended a great book! And it was $10 -- cheaper than Amazon! Go here and keep local book stores alive! They also have great local events.

Owene was the coolest most helpful bookseller ever. Loved his recommendation for House of Leaves and he recommended a great Thai place too. If I’m back in aspen I’ll be back to the bookstore! Super great selection and beautiful layout.

This is a charming bookstore with the rooms having a theme. It's the kind of cozy shop you'd expect in Aspen. They have a wide diversity of books and other book shop items.

What a wonderful experience! I was looking for a logic puzzle book (obscure) and found the perfect one. Their overall selection is amazing and the cozy seating areas draw you in to further enjoy this historic building.

Such a sweet place to visit, so many different options and quiet and peaceful too. Cashier was very nice and helped us get the books we wanted even through some tough payment options. Sweet dog also roams the shop and will sit with you or in a chair while your browsing.

Absolutely adorable. I thought there was going to be odd old vintage books, but they had a variety of older and newer books with every genre! Also a really cute kids section. Love this place, will definitely go back.

One of the last independent and literary oriented book sellers. Great atmosphere and knowledgeable staff make for a pleasant shopping experience.Make sure to try the healthy food in the restaurant upstairs

I was so thrilled to find this beautiful book store in a house off of Main Street in downtown Aspen. I walked in and felt immediately at home. Margaret the Lead Buyer of the store was so generous and offered to help me by carrying my newly published book Pilates for Skiers. Emma the Community Engagement Coordinator was also fabulous offering to have me come back and do a workshop. My visit was complete with a visit to the amazing restaurant upstairs called Pyramid Bistro where I ordered the Sweet Potato Gnocchi. Can't wait to come back and visit!

You should stop by this quaint little book shop if you like books or just need to find slightly more down-to-earth vibes in Aspen. Staff helped me find a book and it was a pleasure to just browse.

I always loved this place to browse and have coffee (old days) or wine (new days). Went there today after a nice bike ride to browse and have a glass of wine at the Pyramid Bistro through which we entered the business. Even though the waiter upstairs said entering without a mask was ok, when I started downstairs to browse while my husband sat upstairs to wait for me before going for wine, I noticed a sign that said masks required. I stayed upstairs sitting with my husband discussing whether we should stay and put on a masks to browse, have a glass of wine or leave. An employee from downstairs came up to obviously “watch” us. And not doing a good job of hiding it. Highly offensive. We left without purchasing a book or wine and don’t feel good about going back.

AMAZING bookstore- it's got tons of books about all kinds of subjects, and a beautiful pet rabbit called Terra that lights up the place. The whole bookstore is beautifully decorated, and it is covered in books from top to bottom. Definitely my favorite place in Aspen!

This is such a cute bookstore! Highly recommended. They have such a great layout, it reminds me of a hidden treasures used bookstore but they are all brand new & the employees are super sweet.

If you love independent bookstores, you'll love Explore. The store is in an authentic Victorian house, which makes exploring the collection so delightful as you go from room to room. The cafe on the second floor is the icing on the cake!

The only bookstore in the valley… And it’s closed again because of the uptick in Covid. Meanwhile everyone else in the whole valley is open! I don’t know what their problem is but get real people!Totally uncool Wheatley frustrating and absolutely ridiculous! I will order my books from Amazon from here forward!

I love independent booksellers stores and I love to support locally owned businesses, but wow! I called to inquire about a book for a friend’s birthday and at every turn there was an issue. First they didn’t have the book (she was searching the wrong name), then they realized they did have the book (because someone finally took the time to listen to the name of the author and the book as I spelled them repeatedly), then the book was put on hold to await payment, and when I called back with payment, the book had been misplaced, then it was located, but could not be purchased because it wasn’t in their data base. Then, the transaction was finally completed, I asked it to be wrapped and held for the birthday boy and when he was able to finally make it to the shop in the midst of a busy holiday work schedule, the book had been misplaced. Then out of the blue, though it was stated clearly to be impossible earlier, they stated suddenly that they would be happy to deliver the book in order to ‘make me happy’.Why not just do the simple things well to begin with? Have books in stock listed in stock?!? Have things that are purchased ahead ready for pick up?!?I think I’ll shop my local book store and pay for all the extra shipping in the future to avoid this kind of headache.

Beautiful store w/a restaurant upstairs. Excellent staff. Go in and talk books.Spend some time looking at their inventory.You will not leave without a book in your hand. If you can't find it, ask them to order it for you....you'll love Explore Books !!

Seems that the owner's reply to the review detailing their experience on Sunday missed the point--it wasn't the mask requirement that caused the problem--it was the offensive "watching" by the employee who did not practice discretion in oversight of patrons. Perhaps staff training would be in order.

Quaint,inviting and a nice selection of books should make everyone happy. Dine at Pyramid upstairs or atleast have tea and a dessert. Enjoy the outdoor patio it is lovely in the summer.

Bought a ordered book. Called to order it. Picked it up 5 days later. They can get any title for you, even Homer Price and the doughnut machine. For my friends with the new doughnut food truck.
