Loved the experience. Went with a friend who adopted a kitten from them. They are promoting adoption and it aligns with my cause/experience. All the animals were kept in separate large rooms. All the kids were well groomed, healthy and ready to be taken to their forever homes. I appreciate them having a very detailed adoption process- specially good if you are going to be pet parent for the first time. They also have amazing merchandise. There are many animal care facilities near the adoption center. The staff is very supportive and polite.

Such a wonderful place! I adopted my wonderful cat,Tessa, from them 12 years ago and have loved that little fur ball every second. Careful matches between adopters and pets, very helpful behavior advice, clean environment and friendly staff, not to mention a great veterinarian team. We now live in Arizona but always support and follow this stellar rescue.

The best staff, and doctors! They understand. They care. And they provide. Above and beyond!!! They are a true gift to Contra Costa County & the Bay Area. Go see them. They'll answer your questions, and assist you to their best ability. My littlest Jack Russell Terrier had a Testicular Tumor removed April 19th. They treated him with very good care. And as of today he's doing very well. No after-surgery vomiting, no stomach irritation from the prescribed meds. He's awesome! And I owe it all to Joybound!!

Arf LITERALLY saved my English Bulldog from a potential life threatening bladder condition. I’m so eternally grateful for what they do here. They save animals on a daily basis. This is such a HUGE deal. Thank you Jessica Wallace for everything you helped me with. Thank you ARF!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️

This was the most amazing place I've been to in so long!! I am a disabled veteran so money is tight I was so happy when my va rep told me about this place! On Wednesdays they help out the veteran community by offering us free help for our furry little family members!! Yes I said FREE!!! That is free shots and spay and neuter and flea and tick and heart worm prevention also the check up and all other concerns were addressed while I was while I was there too!! I don't know what else could have been better really!!!??!!They were so incredibly nice too! they spent an hour with us and made sure to answer all my questions as well. I have 2 dogs and they offer all this to both my puppers!! I am so amazed and so thankful like for real I know I have said it a million times over now but thank you guys so very very much and I have told so many people to go to you and that you guys are wonderful brilliant and just super awesome all around!!!!

This is the East Bay's premiere place to adopt a puppy or kitten / dog or cat from a professionally run nonprofit organization committed to animal rescue and seeking the best match of the pet to the new home. ARF's facility is clean, spacious and bright and you will be assisted by the well trained staff who can advise you about your pet choice. Highly recommended.

What an incredible place for pets to get adopted. Beautiful, clean, nice gift shop and soon to have grooming! They also have a veterans assistance program for service dogs. Lovely gardens!

We went in to check on about giving donations and found our youngest! Staff was super nice definitely were trying to find perfect and good homes. We were interested in one cat but already had 2 others however she was sure to inform us of the health risks towards our other cats bringing home that one she maybe she wasn’t a good fit!We ended up getting a different cutie though, who fits perfectly with our family!

These people are the most judgemental, self serving, act like they are doing the world a favor type (well sorry just one in particular). They don't help the community out like when Tony Larussa had his people actually in charge of it. He had compassion and a heart, now the bottom line is their all mighty dollar, im sure that's what it is. When you have a personality clash usually you can talk with someone else but this person won't allow it, she is the almighty and what she says goes. She made up absolute lies, said things that were completely untrue (but in her mind maybe they were but I have proff what was said was through text) I can't even speak to anyone else. The one person who truly knows is not with them anymore. So I have no choice but stop dealing with the same people I've been with since the early 90's because of one person with a God complex in a place that is supposed to have compassion and did for many many years until she came aboard 3 years ago. So sad that someone who is disabled and can't get around can't get help for her deceased child cat because of one person. I even told her I would probably need to surrender the cat because i couldn't care for it properly and she didn't care at all. How is that for community service and compassion? Please don't donate to people like this, put your dollars and donations somewhere they will truly matter. I'm sure the adoption side of things are very helpful (at least I would pray that they are) but don't rely on the food share program to help in your time of need especially with this person in charge of that program

I walked in with my roommate and we were looking at 2 different dogs and wanted to met them, however they were closing in 10 minutes and I get that it’s difficult to adopt a dog in that amount of time but I feel like saying that causes a dog to not have a home. Cause now my roomie and I are going to look at other dogs at other shelters. But that’s not the only reason why we don’t want to go back the lady who we asked to see the dogs was hella judging us looking us up and down asking how old we were. And if we live alone like yes we do and we wouldn’t come in if we weren’t old enough. We’re both caregiver for people with disabilities. But don’t judge a person by their cover. It just killed our moods. I know we look young but we’re not that young.

ARF is a great place to adopt pets. I found this 3 month old puppy on petfinder and got a reply from staff the next day. The place is sparkly clean and all the staffs are friendly and welcoming. They gave me plenty time to socialize with the puppy and patiently answered my questions. Needless to say I adopted this cute little girl right away. Before leaving, ARF staffs provided many documents and resources to help me learn and train this puppy.

As a retired Veteran it's difficult to make ends meet. By chance came across their post on how ARF offers Veterans care for our furry family members. They graciously spayed one of my dogs, waiting on the appointment for the next one. Vaccinated both my pets and all at their cost. All I can humbly say, it's THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart!!

We were so sure that we would adopt a kitty today and the girl touring us made it unpleasant and unwelcoming as though every single move that was made while interacting with the kittens was inappropriate. I fully understand that there are rules but this was a little much. Pretty much such sat on the floor keeping to ourselves and yet still there was always something. .. The last room we looked at the kitties did not interact with us so I asked if we could possibly visit another one and she said no, 3 room limit. We were also timed on the clock. This should be a beautiful experience. We will look elsewhere to adopt.

Everyone is super nice! At the shelter they take time with you to help you pick out which cat or dog is the best fit for you. They also treat their animals very well and it's really heartwarming to see. They microchip, vaccinate, and spay/neuter all of the animals with the funds that get donated to them. I highly recommend checking them out :)

ARF helped so much when we came in to adopt a cat! They have you fill out a form indicating your interests and situation and then they bring you to meet the animals. We visited a bunch of cats, and they didn't rush us at all. They let us visit the cats multiple times before we found our adoptee.Tracy helped us so much from visiting the cats to filling out the adoption forms. She made the whole experience really easy.

Wonderful volunteers and lovely cats and dogs. Each prospective adoptee is on view in a separate room, with all the food and accessories they need. We adopted a great adult kitty. The whole experience was first-rate.

We adopted our baby girl Ariel here two weeks ago and she is amazing. They do so much for animals. They gave us all kinds of information to get us started, she was already spayed and micro chipped, and they let us know what shots she had and when she needed her next. We have also taken her to several of their puppy socials where she has had a blast interacting with other dogs and people.

Went here April 16, 2018 to get my puppy spayed, it's been over a month and she continues to have problems with the surgery area, we have had to go to the vet 3 times since just because of this. And they don't help you here after surgery at all. I would highly recommend going somewhere else and spending a little extra money, it will save you money and time in the long run. See pictures of what my puppy is going through now

Covid 19 has changed the rules , you can't meet with the dogs unless you are willing to adopt but however it's a good thing to do

This rescue is the most professional I have been to. All the cats are vaccinated, spayed and neutered, microchipped and tested. They're kept in nice clean enclosures where people can go in and visit with them with one of their team members. The adoption was detailed and thorough. This is definitely a five-star operation.

Took my very nervous Husky/Border Collie to get neutered at the spay and neuter clinic. Super amazing staff from the beginning of the appointment all the way to end. They let me sit with him while he got his sedation shot. Super friendly and understanding of the fact that sometimes it take a little patience with some dogs specially when they have been traumatized somewhere else. To all the staff thank you so very much!!!! highly recommend.
