In disbelief and heartbroken at the loss of our Finn on Wednesday 11/29/23. I took him in to Sun Surf Vet in Sunset Beach for a routine neuter surgery never expecting that it would be the last time I saw him. He was only 9 months old and perfectly healthy. Yet I still got that call at 1:38 PM that my little sidekick never woke up from the anesthesia.I drove to the vet as fast as I could hoping I could breathe life back into him. But it just wasn’t possible. By the time I got there he was gone.All I could do was cry into him so that he could comfort me one last time… letting my hands get lost in the soft fur around his neck.So now I say goodbye my Finneas Bear Moses, I hope you closed your eyes dreaming of swimming in the pool and all the shoes you’d destroy. You filled a space in my heart I didn’t even know was empty. You were my constant, my shadow, whether I liked it or not. We didn’t deserve you and yet you still loved us with all you had.We miss you so much already… I miss you… I love you… I’ll see you in my dreams buddy. 💔#finnAs for Sun Surf Vet, I’m not letting this go. I had a Necropsy (autopsy) performed by a different veterinarian and the preliminary results indicate that he was anatomically perfect. Thus, despite your arrogance Dr. Mike (are you even a doctor?) you f’d up. Had you shown some remorse, empathy, compassion, anything, I wouldn’t be so focused on closing your doors so that you never do this again. You killed a member of our family and you were unapologetic about it because he’s just “property”. Maybe so in the eyes of the law, but you’re about to find out how much this “property” was valued.I recently found out that this isn’t the first time this has happened at this vet and am hoping others will reach out if this has happened to you as well.Anyone who loves and cares about their pet will avoid this vet at all costs or be prepared to lose him/her. Don’t say you weren’t warned. —

This is such a wonderful veterinary hospital. Dr Sam and his technicians are so helpful and caring for my dog. Dr Sam explains in detail what my dog’s issues are and he is very compassionate. I feel their prices are fair and reasonable. So happy I found them!!

I have been taking my four cats to Sun Surf for years now and I have always been very happy with the services provided and the care they take for my fur-babies.Today I took my eldest cat Rufus into the vet to treat an ingrown claw. Sun Surf has recently hired a new vet, Dr. Mc Daniel. He took care of Rufus and I today and I am thoroughly impressed in every way. Dr. McDaniel is an amazing vet and I will be asking for him to care for my cats from here on out.Thank you Dr. McDaniel for your exceptional expertise and care. My family really appreciates all that you do.

Sun Surf has the best staff! They're very friendly, caring, and kind. I brought my dog in and Doctors Michael and Meina took amazing care of him and reassured me that everything was going to be okay. My dog is now doing much better and is recovering perfectly.

They lied and told me they could do an ultrasound when the doctor was not trained on them. After paying 300 dollars and receiving iphone videos instead of any documentation, he told me he was not board certified and I had to verify anything he found with a board certified technician. Of course I never would have agreed if I knew I immediately had to get another ultrasound.His findings were of a large mass on a terrible area. He said I needed to confirm but he was "pretty sure". Thankfully he was wrong, as he has no training and mistook a fat roll for the c word, but there's something sick about exploiting someone and charging for something you have no business doing for a quick buck. This was the head doctor by the way..Edit to add: I got an email from them about leaving a yelp review, which I did. And I looked at their other reviews and within ten minutes found FOUR SEPARATE reviews about pets who passed suspiciously in their care.. manager response STILL ON YELP: "there are two sides to every story". Wow...

I am so thankful for this place. My 8 week old puppy started showing concerning symptoms. My regular vet didn't have any appts and they referred me here. I called Sun Surf and they were willing to see him if I brought him in right away. Brought him in and they ran the necessary tests. Thankfully, he's going to be ok - just needed some antibiotics. By that night, he was already showing significant improvements! By the next day, he was back to normal! So happy with their quick service and treatment. Thank you Sun Surf!

The staff is very nice and know me by name. I love Dr. Sam and he has been treating all of my animals for many years. I recently met with Dr. Meredith and really liked her. She was very knowledgeable and treated my kitty who is feeling much better. On the day I went they had a staff member that was working there from Ambassador Pet Hospital and she wasn't very nice at all, in fact I thought she was outright mean, but normally everyone is great! I'll just avoid this particular person in the future. Highly recommend Dr. Sam and Dr. Meredith.

I have brought my dog here for more than 15 yrs. I was so happy with the doctors there. About over 2 wks ago, I brought my dog in for loose stool. The doctor was so amazing…. However, I purchased for antibiotic and supplements as well as flea control medication. When I got home, I noticed there was no flea medication but since he would be on antibiotic so I supposed to call back but the business was closedI forgot to call back because our house was painting …..until I brought my dog in for grooming so I called the office and mention the issue. The front staff was saying their inventory was balance. …I was wondering how could it be balance when I did not received my dog fleas medication?Another way of saying was…..I already noticed the missing medication on my way back Since we had been with Sunset Surf Vet for so long and it was less than 5 min drive from where I lived.My message was to check in your bag before you leave the clinic or you are a liar. It was sad that someone was negligence and blamed for other. I understood that error happened but this was not how you deal with a long time customer. …or especially for any clients.

We have been taking our dog here for over 5 years. Dr Mina and Dr Sam both do really well with our dog with severe anxiety. Alyssa is the best technician we’ve ever had, as she is so patient with our dog despite his anxiety and being a large breed. The front staff can be hit or miss at times since they’ve had a lot of changes over the last year or two.

Dr Sam and his staff have taken care of 4 of our puppies including two we had to say goodbye to. He came to our Apt. & we were able to let our Samoyed go to sleep with his help and it was much better than taking him in to a hospital. Since then we take our Poodle mixes in for shots and everything else and have been very happy with how they treat us and the dogs.👌🏻👍🏼💪🏻😊

I have been going to Sun Surf Vet. since i moved here from NY 5 yrs. ago. I had 3 pets, One has since has left us, I was such a wreck that day. Dr. Sam made me comfortable and helped me through the process.Dr. Belmore has been there so many times with my Frenchie and his unique issues. The girls at the front desk are great.All in all in and my boys have always been treated very well there. Dr Sam showed great concern for me and my cat during a challenging situation of my cat's paranoia of workmen and fear of moving. We had challenges to determine what was serious (blockage from eating items) needing surgery vs. fear and depression from move.Dr Sam showed great compassion to both Sasha (and his Mom) when the situation became more than frustrating with repeat occurrences.The staff at Sun Surf are very friendly and professional and the atmosphere is pleasant and clean. Their tech's have gone beyond the call of duty to make my pet (and me) comfortable - in boarding (monitoring him) or with treatment/surgery.At a prior time Dr. Mary Belmore passed the treatment plan over to Dr. Sam for the best interest of Sasha (when he came for same eating/blockage issues on a weekend in July that she wasn't going to be available. I appreciated the team spirit and seamless treatment between the Dr's.

I have a small dog rescue and I have brought over 20 different dogs to this Veterinary Hospital!. I have tried several other well known veterinary hospital in Huntington Beach and the surrounding area's and found them to be over priced and not as accommodating as Sun Surf. I would not consider taking my dogs anywhere else. At least give them a try once and you will see for yourself what a great Hospital this is!

Great news!! Dr. Claudia Horvath has joined this practice!! She's the best, most thorough and kind vet ever. Staff was friendly and efficient. Yesterday my dog was barfing profusely with "firehose" diarrhea and today you'd never know he was sick.

Today I went back to Sun Surf Animal Hospital to have them cut my cats' nails. I was able to do it myself but they are too big for me to do it alone and they jump around and sometimes I cut the quick part by accident and their poor litle claws bleed all over the place. Last time I went to SunSurf they told to bring them in and it would take just a few minutes which I did this morning. As usual the howling went on in the car but they quieted down after we arrived. Immediately and Technician and an assistant took them, talked to them and they were able to snip away the claws without my cats wailing.. It was such a relief for me and it was very reasonable. All the people who work there are so sweet and comforting. I will never cut my cats' nails again now that I saw what a good job Sun Suft did. This is definitely the place to take your pets to.

The staff is always friendly and gentle with our pets. The doctors are caring people who listen and know what they are doing. They will not prescribe a medication when an environmental or behavioral solution is the best treatment. The place is always clean and there is plenty of free street parking in the back.
