I’ve been working with rescue dogs at this facility for almost 5 years. The staff, volunteers, and leadership are second to none. They are a 100% no-kill shelter and have a genuine passion for providing dogs with a safe place to rehabilitate.

CARL is a truly amazing canine rescue. My husband and I are so fortunate that they intervened and saved Jake from another shelter that could not accommodate his health needs. The wonderful volunteers and CARL management used their funds(and a lot of love) to nurse Jake back to health. We were fortunate to come across CARL and to have Jake adopt us!It is important to mention that CARL gets some of its funding from the private kennel they run at the same site. If they treat the paid "guests" to anything near as well as the rescue, then your dog(s) are in for a treat(and you are helping to fund the shelter). The place is large, with three large and enclosed lawn areas. Many volunteers are constantly playing with, walking, or sneaking the rescue dogs some treats. Please consider them when you need a kennel or if you are considering a new "family member." #greatkennel, #kennelandrecuewithaheart, #nokillshelter

I have been taking my furbabies here since 2007. The staff is so caring, compassionate and willing to work with me when I need a last minute change. My furbaby has no issues going for daycare or for boarding. She instantly wags her tail and goes with the staff when we arrive. I would recommend CARLS to anyone who needs to board their fur baby or just take them for daycare for the day! Plus their rates are affordable and reasonable. Great work CARLS crew!Lucy’s mom

I left my dogs a 100lb lab and a 5lb havanese. I have never put them in a kennel. They came home fine…the little guy a bit stinky but very happy to see me. It would have been nice to see them in side by side kennels. It would have been nice to see their stay location also. I could only see what I saw walking up. They took my dogs and then it was nothing until I picked them up. Guess I am not used to that as I have typically used Rover. I prefer to send to CARL, my previous lab always went there. Not sure why I feel different now. I wish I knew my big guy was running and playing with others. I wish I knew my little guy was not afraid by himself and that he was getting some loving here and there throughout the day. I have no issues, and everything went well.

Me and wife drove to Santa Paula twice to visit Chow Ching. Female Chow Chow. We walked her twice. Chow Ching admitley took a liking to her first.🙂 Marsha volunteer advised us to speak to Terry Volunteer again to make arrangements for Friday to pick up Chow Ching. In which my wife did. It took a day for Joan to respond back to Terry. Finally Terry Spoke to Joan, which is Sponsoring Chow Ching. Joan agreed for Friday the 16th. Joan changed her mind stating she wanted to see the house and yard. We sent her pics. But still she was not satisfied. A home visit was conducted on the day we were supposed to pick her up. Joan wasted everyone times. But most of all playn with are emotions/feeling's. Not just for us but for cho Ching as well. Joan was never going to give her to us. Joan stated she paid a lot of money for chow Ching vet bills her board at the shelter pretty much everything including dog training. Joan if you have invisted so much money. Take her home with you. Don't leave Chow Ching in a cage. It breaks my heart how some people treat dogs /anmails as nothing. We love you cho Ching. I hope you find a home soon. But your always welcome at ours. P.S Shelter plz don't respond back with "I'm sorry you had a bad experience". Burn my house down and tell me your sorry. No excuses or explanation. SHOW ME!

Adopting out aggressive dogs! Spoke with Cynthia, VP at Carl's Pet Care and Rescue- she states that they knew the dog didn't like going to the vet, and would likely need to be sedated for any vet visits, but that she didn't "think" he had a bite history. Basically, the rescue KNEW this dog had the potential of aggressive behaviors, and was not honest with the new owner, and did not disclosed any paperwork proving this dog was safe, even the dogs BIO on the rescue site says NOTHING about his behavior. I asked her why there was not a behavioral evaluation done on this dog, she stated there was. When I asked if she could provide documentation, she said no. Cynthia said that everyone at the rescue "loved" Milo- No well behaved dog needs to be sedated for a vet visit! Milo is 120lb dog!!!When I explained to her the incident with Milo, lunging at our assistant and biting her arm, it was unprovoked, and that by not providing any information to the client regarding his need for "sedation" at the vet, was incredibly negligent. And due to their negligence, Milo has bit numerous people since they adopted him out less than a month ago, the transport handler, as well as the handler here in Seattle, and one of my staff members. I also expressed to Cynthia that it was reckless of the organization to adopt OUT ANY dog with a aggression. If you adopt from them, I STRONGLEY ADVISE seeing a written behavioral evaluation on any dog, as well as surrender paperwork- !! UPDATE: After speaking with the new owner today, she had called Cynthia at the rescue, because for 4 hours she could not get this dog out of her car, and was trying to attack her through the car windows. Eventually, the owner had to leave the car door open, and the dog lunged to chase her, and she ran up her apartment stairs to get away from this dog. Cynthia advised the owner that it was probably a good "idea" to sleep with her bedroom door closed. WHO ADOPTS DOGS LIKE THIS??? This owner will actively be seeking legal counsel if they don't offer to come pick up this terrifying dog!

The few staff I have encountered are friendly and they to be helpful. Location seems very unorganized and unsynced. Any question I asked never received a direct answer. It is difficult to contact or speak to anyone during their working hours. I resorted to diving 30 mins twice to get answers, in which were both different. Terry is unprofessional and rude. She told me not to call until they call them about a viewing. Funny thing is I put in a application and got no response from the company. I am really interested in a dog that I fell in love with before November 2020 and back then I received no response, the dog was returned to them and I sent a new application for him and still no response. I called and left message and still no call back. You would think of the same person tried to adopt the same dog multiple times that they would reply. This company seems biased and is highly unorganized. Their selection for people interested in adopting a animal makes no sense and each person I spoke too told me a different response or told me they are not sure. For a company that accepts donations and has working hours , they fall short for. My advice is to have quarterly training for all staff to have everyone on the same page.Bottom line, as much as it pains me to say this because I do love animals. I do no recommend this location. Do not donate to them as I feel the money does not actually go to the animals fully. I believe donated money lines the pockets of the owner while limited amounts go to the animals.

They've been wonderful. We got a puppy we thought was a Chow Chow, but turned out to be more border collie, which was too active and eating our furniture, if we weren't home even for a half-hour, from separation anxiety. They took her in and are training her, and finding a better home for her where she can run and herd, and be happy. ♡♡♡♡

C. A. R. L. does WONDERFUL work for our furry canine friends; the volunteers are all so giving & dedicated & loving!!! I'm hoping that in the near future that I too will be able to join in their organization because they are so selfless. 👍

Really excellent care for their dogs. You need a little more foresight in using CARL as an appointment is required. But their Web site allows you to learn about the dogs and they wouldn't come home all wired out.

Administrative assistant is awesome and so helpful. They put up with helicopter dog moms like me and make sure your dog is placed in an appropriate kennel.

We've never had an issue here. My only knock is that the place doesn't give of the greatest appearance from the outside. The yard leading up to the facility looks run down which doesn't give of a comforting vibe to newcomers that aren't familiar with the place.

Went to visit and learn more about their dog boarding services. They have a lot to offer and the revenue from the dog boarding supports their rescue and shelter program.

If you wanna see adopt a dog, you can't see them unless you use the internet. Then don't forget you need an appointment. Doesn't make any sense. I wanna see there personality not what someone else thinks. I was trying to help an animal not there convenience.
