We stayed in a Chalet which was large and well maintained. They had toilet paper, dish soap, linens, basic pots and pans, utensils, and dishes. They even had little soaps like a hotel, filters and sugar/creamer for the coffee pot! I appreciated all those nice touches for our stay. There is a beautiful creek on the back of the property perfect for kids to play in (it's shallow) and sitting by if you bring your camp chairs down. It is 2 miles from the lake so it's not accessible to walk to so you still have to deal with parking which fills up fast. Other than that, it's a great place to stay.

This whole area is a must go-to. It's beautiful, out in nature, and there's their own little community restaurant and grocery store. The lake was also beautiful. The cabin we stayed in was SOOO HOMEY. Everything was very clean and we loved the auto hot water! My favorite by far was the cute little dinner table and i LOVED the gas powered fire place. It was cold there and it was the perfect addition. The only cons I noticed are the following: 1. The bed was not as comfortable as expected. It was noisy. That could be updated. 2. The cabin we stayed in just happened to have a window in the worst spot. Right around 6am for about 1.5-2 hours it would shine in your eyes. VERY bright. Even though the window was a type of special texture, it still got through. That could use a curtain. 3. The shower head did not shut off completely. It dripped non stop. And 4. The wifi did not work on any devices. It wasn't a huge deal because we focused on being away from phones during this but it would have been nice to have to keep in touch with the animal sitters. Other than those few things, I definitely recommend staying here. We came mid May, so we were pretty much the only ones there. It was super quiet and the water running in the background was very romantic and a joy to listen to.

This was a last minute trip in January. While in Modesto we decided to look for snow and ended up in Strawberry. They had one cabin left with a loft. What a treat! The cabin was clean and up to date. The heater worked great and we were toasty. We arrived in the evening and awoke to a winter wonderland. The cabin had unobstructed views and the big window was picturesque. We'll definitely be back.

It was snowing very hard when we arrived about 8PM. Map sign hard to see but found "Lobby" location and got our key and map. Needed 4X4 [Chains would work but this location can get a lot of snow] to easily turn around in 8" soft snow.Cabin #2 had parking space next to unit. Needed snow boots to get to front door as snow was not removed but I was told that this is normal after major storms. There was a snow shovel but I also bring my own heavy duty snow shovel.Unit was not preheated so plugged in electric heater and turned on the propane heater. It heated small unit relatively quick.Toaster, microwave, electric hot water kettle and mini fridge, table chairs all in great shape.Room and queen size bed were clean and comfortable. These are not fancy but functional. My wife and I ski so most important was comfortable and close to Dodge Ridge ski area.I would book again and perhaps in the summer to access Pinecrest Lake.

My family and I loved our stay, the chalets and its surroundings are absolutely fantastic! The smaller rooms are perfect for your snowboarding trips, BUT would definitely recommend upgrading to the bigger chalets (the ones with the kitchenette) if you're just coming to enjoy your stay <it's pricy but worth the price>.We have been here twice this year and would definitely consider coming back, but if we may add our two cents here... flexibility for a late checkout would be greatly appreciated by active guests like us. We asked for a late checkout on both our visits and we failed to receive a positive reply (phone & emails). We understand that there's high occupancy during peak season, but 1 extra hour means a whole lot for guests sometimes... :)Again, overall, this place is great!

Stayed in a 2 queen bed cabin over a 4th of July holiday weekend. Cabins are decent and generally had everything you need for a wilderness stay. Yes, there are things that could be improved both in the property or the cabin, could be renovated better and the floor could have used a real mopping before we arrived, but if these are your complaints, then maybe a wilderness stay is not really what you u are looking for. Never met or talked to a single person that worked there during my 3 night stay so was glad I didn't really need anything. Previous reviews about absentee management seemed totally true to me. My main gripe about Pinecrest Chalet was the cost for what you get. I wouldn't have minded the dirty floors in the cabin, the non-existent staff, the cleaning robot left in the pool, the questions I had about whether my gas fireplace should have been working or the rickety old kids play structures IF I wasn't paying so much for a nightly rate. I would expect all these things to be better for how much they charge. Hopefully they can match the amenities/service to the price one way of the other. Otherwise, not sure I would stay there again.

We booked the K unit “Knotty Pine - Honeymoon Chalet” as we liked the full kitchen and the Jacuzzi. We stayed only one night but our experience was not great at all. After we checked in, we started to make dinner when all of a sudden the power went out. We checked and found some other units still had power, and the circuit breakers inside the unit were all fine. Since thee was no phone in the unit, and their WiFi, though connected, cannot get to the internet, and there was no cellular signal (for T-Mobile), I had to walk a long way in the cold dark night to the lobby building to ask for help. And since after 5 there was no one there, I had to use the phone inside the front desk to call their number. Finally someone came to help. After a few failed starts the power was finally restored, but we were cautioned to not use too many high power appliance at the same time. So we had to unplugged their space heater and relied only on the fireplace. And we dared not use the Jacuzzi pump. We just used it as a regular tub. And the heater inside the bathroom had a notice saying it does not function.Other negative things:No hair dryer, but they provided on requestNo facial tissueNo chop board in the kitchenSo called coffee maker is just a French pressOnly 2 cloth hangers were providedOnly 1 out of 3 light bulbs works in the lamp above the dinning tableBath tub water cannot be fully diverted to the showerSome blinds are brokenThe bed has no headboardWith a before tax rate of $299 and such poor maintenance and amenities, we felt it is not worth it. But the staff there was very helpful, especially when our car could back up the driveway due to the ice formed overnight. They helped pour some salt under the tires and along the way, and all three of them helped push my car to help it start moving. Many thanks for their help.

Beautiful area. Enjoyed the hiking. Accommodations are just ok. Ice machine old and broken. Pool green. Good thing I didn't come for the pool. Room not supplied well. Room sleeps 8 but only 2 cereal bowls etc. Beds only have a fitted sheet and a comforter,, no flat sheet or blanket. Plus no one ever in the lobby to speak with and a note on the buzzer that says not to ring. Was here for 2 nights and only saw one employee that we had to search for 20 minutes to find. If you consider this place please pack as if you were tent camping.

2nd time staying at Pinecrest chalet. This last trip we booked the Evergreen unit. This spacious unit was enough room for our part of 3 adults, 4 children under 10 years of age. All 4 bedrooms and bathrooms are located on the first floor. The kitchen, dining and living room are on the 2nd floor. The deck is also on the 2nd floor. Two designated parking spots. Lots of snow right outside your front door. Great views from all windows especially the kitchen/ dining windows. Warm water, working wood fireplace. Not all beds were comfortable. Could benefit from upgraded beds. Nonetheless, we will be back for future vacations.

We stayed at one of the RV sites . There is a limited number of sites, but they are large. It is probably the most expensive place we've stayed with an RV, but the location was worth it, 5min drive to the lake and 10min to Dodge Ridge. We did get a look in some of the cabins, as there was some maintenance happening and they looked comfortable. Also there appeared to be some upgrading going on around the property.

Overpriced for the quality and cleanness of the rooms and you get mice staying with you in your room as a bonus!! Could hardly sleep at night because mice were actually walking all around the room in my bags and boxes so I had to put my bags outside the chalet in the middle of the night. I found Mice droppings next morning on the kitchen counter and in the bathroom next to my toothbrush!! Also the WiFi did not work at all. I do not recommend this place. I have stayed in much better places for this price.

The room was absolutely beautiful and warm and had everything we needed. The amenities were a bit understated on the website, they really had everything aside from bringing our own food and drinks. Oh minus a normal coffee maker, but they even lent me an electric one. But hey, they served free coffee and hot chocolate in the lobby. There's also a pool and they provide pool towels and shower towels. All in all, I am very VERY pleased with this cabin location, small river creek right behind our room. It was about a 5 minute drive to the pinecrest lake. We thought we would only have 2 beds and a futon, turns out we had 2 futons also. Zero complaints here. I would like to stay there in the winter too.

First time staying at Pinecrest Chalet. My two daughters and I stayed in cottage #3 Birch. The cottage was small and cozy, and provided a place to rest and shower. There is no kitchen but a table and chairs are provided indoors to eat meals. A toaster and coffee maker were provided. Bed linens, pillows, towels, hands soap, a small fridge, and micro were also provided in the cottage. No WI-FI but was able to make calls and text. Outdoor areas allow one to enjoy walks and short hikes. Friendly staff and room cleanliness met my expectations. Overall a quiet and cozy location to relax and recharge away from society. I will definitely be visiting again in the future.

I did appreciate the location and price of the cabin - there are not many choices in this area unless you rent a whole house. The grounds have many pine trees and a flowing stream cutting through. It is very peaceful - especially at night. The cabins... they could use some worth. Our deck was rotting, including the banister which was fully rotted. To their credit, they were fixing, albeit somewhat unconventionally, at least one of the decks while we were there. At the door entry is an uncomfortable steel grate - I presume for winter so snow can sift through - BUT - it was summer and it was still there... can you cover this with a carpet? The rooms were a bit grimy, the bathroom and corners could use a good scrub. Sure the sheets and sink were clean, but nothing else was deep clean. The general layout was dysfunctional. There were only two outlets total in our room that were accessible. It came with a mini fridge and microwave - good because the dining option sin Pincrest are pathetic. We grilled most of our meals, but the setup to grill was not user friendly. Nowhere to place anything (Except rotten deck rail) and the grill grate was locked in so that you could lift the whole thing and use a chimney or other efficient method to light - this adds substantial time to grilling...I'd recommend that the people who run this place, stay there for a night and see what sort of small improvements could make a huge difference. Its pretty clear that they have never tried to function in these rooms.

Raising a red flag on wedding reservations. I visited in early April 2021 and was given a wedding date in June 2022. Everything was fine, and it seemed like a great place for a wedding.Since then I have been unable to get a hold of any responsible person to discuss contract terms and deposit. The phones have been "out" for weeks and when we do get through, we're given a different story every time and have even been hung up on a few times.Feel free to post back if you've had a better experience.ETA: The change in ownership has ruined this once well-respected business - so reviews under the old management may have been accurate at the time.

Really nice facility. Many amenities in the rooms. Beds and futons were a bit uncomfortable. Unfortunately the wedding party and I were "evicted" due to fires in the area. Would definitely visit again if afforded the opportunity.

We stayed here in the beginning of October and it was absolutely quite and peaceful. Best and most affordable RV hook-up sites we've been to so far! Completely and totally dog friendly! I had to double check that we were actually in California, because they are so relaxed and nice with no extra fees for this or that (and I'm from and still live in CA.) The free laundry room saved us with our four year old, he leaked on his bed one night and on our last day threw-up on his comforter, the dogs blanket, and one of my hiking shoes! Such a godsend to have that extra amenity!

Pinecrest Chalet is an amazing escape from everyday reality! The property is beautifully located and well maintained. The new remodel throughout the Chalets/Cabins look absolutely amazing & so fresh! The staff is friendly & professional. Housekeeping did a great job at ensuring our cabin was cleaned especially during these COVID times! Looking forward to the next trip!

Quiet relaxed property. We chose this property because it was dog friendly, and close to Dodge Mountain. The reception staff was welcoming and very helpful. The chalet we stayed in was unit L, the studio with the two queen beds. The unit had all the amenities for a comfortable stay. I appreciated the fact that the mattress had covers to protect against bed bugs. The mattress itself could use updating as it was squeaking and didn't provide great support. The bed sheets were nice and soft. We liked them so much we looked for a tag and saw they were made by Amazon Basics, and ordered them when we got home. The gas fireplace was nice and did eventually warm up the cabin, however a wood burning one would have added some more charm. The shower had plenty of hot water and good water pressure. The kitchen had a decent amount of space to cook in, however the table was bulky and took up lots of space. The WiFi left me feeling a bit disappointed, it felt like I was on a 56k Modem; hopefully thats something that could be worked on. The Den is a place on the property that you can go play games, or just lounge and read a book. Now I wasn't expecting anything glamorous, but it smelled like mold and looked like Jason Voorhees tore up the place up. It has such great potential, and maybe its kept up better in the summer but I felt like it shouldn't have been open in that condition. The stay at the property was an overall good experience. If management focuses on some minor details, this place would be a gem.

No information and NO communication. The forest was shut down and the Rangers came around telling us to leave our second day there and the Chalet will not refund us for the night we didn't stay they because we were not out by 11am, we were not told of the forest shut down at 2pm. So unless you can tell the future and know when shut down are happening do not stay here. They claim it is in emails that we never got and it's awful of them to not cut us a break given it was a forest evacuation and not our choice. They will also not tell you about hidden charges, they wanted to charge us a full wedding venue price for taking a few pictures. Despite us calling them multiple times to ask about it and not being able to get ahold of anyone.

First all we love Pinecrest Chalet so much we got married here 3 years ago. Sadly they sold this place and its just not the same with the new ownership. The lack of heat our cabin had was just no okay x2 nights and we had to leave our vacation a day early. We also slipped on the ice leading to our cabin and I twisted my ankle. I understand there are issues in the forest and in the winter but what bothered me was I asked for only 1 night refund and not only did I never refunded me but I never got a call back. I am disappointed by the lack of communication.

We stayed this place 2 weeks ago. We stayed in the town house. When we arrived the place around 5:00pm the place was not still ready for new guests. Everywhere was in dirt and the house was freezing cold. They had not done a single preparation until we arrive. Everything is old and broken in the house so they are charging customers with the broken things. When 3 adults and a kid were sitting on one of the sofas, the sofa’s one leg is broken. So they did not hesitate to charge us even though we did not do anything but sit down. And my 4 years old son who was sitting with me was about to hurt because of their old sofa. I would not recommend this place for anyone especially to families.
