My husband and I adopted a puppy. The staff here made the transition simple. He's so sweet and loving. He's already becoming a member of the family.

Great experience! I made an appointment but it was cancelled due to a gas leak and I was so annoyed, but there was nothing to be done because it was out of their hands-- they were still really nice even when I was a bit cranky. When I came back the next day, I was met with such incredible energy from the staff. You would have had no idea the chaos they endured the day before by their friendly attitudes. The person who helped us adopt our cats was so friendly, caring and open. She genuinely shared our joy in adopting our cats. These cats are my first ever pets of my own, and adopting from Pasadena humane was a joyful and easy experience. They made me feel very assured. When it comes time to adopt another pet, I will be back! They were very thorough in explaining everything, despite being very busy, and we even got some food to take home with our kitties. If you can't get an appointment (they fill up fast) coming on a Saturday or Sunday for visiting hours to adopt is very doable.

First off, I’d like to clarify that this is not a review of the organization as a whole. Most of the volunteers and employees were very patient and helpful. This review is specifically about one very unprofessional staff member that my partner and I encountered on both (and only) visits to this shelter. There is a male employee with dark hair that was nothing but insulting and dismissive to us. He had a bad attitude on both occasions and everything he said came off as sassy and impatient. We were talked down to and generally treated as if we were unworthy to be there looking at the dogs. After the first visit, we chalked it up to an employee having a bad day. No big deal, it happens to all of us. But after the second visit, it was clear this person just severely lacks communication and customer service skills and has absolutely no business having been placed in a public facing role.Based on recent reviews left by others, it’s obvious that our negative experience with members of staff was not an isolated incident. What a terrible shame for these animals who could have gotten placed in amazing homes with caring people, only to leave PHS offended and empty-handed. Bottom line, everyone coming into your shelter willing to open their homes to an animal in need should be treated with respect and made to feel welcome and worthy, regardless of their background or level of experience with animals.

Really disappointed. I visited this facility many years ago (work related) and it was such a beautiful shelter facility, like a sanctuary. It has since been remodeled but I couldn't find a couple of dogs on their website that I am considering adopting. Unfortunately not all the kennels were labeled and the many volunteers weren't able to assist (maybe volunteers been used to make sure all kennels had at least minimal labels i.e, gender, adoptability, etc). Also, the stench throughout indicated the shelter was cleaned several hours before the limited visitation hours.

I’m leaving a 5 star because my experienced ended very well and the staff was super kind, but I wish there would be some protocol implemented so this doesn’t happen again. I drove an hour here, in the rain, so I could take a look at a specific cat. I already had a feeling that the appointment before mine was looking at the same cat and I was right, I didn’t mind at first because I expected it. I arrived at 10:45am and was told the other person waiting at the bench had the 10:30am appointment, was also looking at the same cat, but we were waiting on his girlfriend. His girlfriend didn’t arrive until 11:04am, thirty minutes past his appointment. Normally, when you’re late by 15 minutes your appointment is voided/cancelled. I understand because one of the party members were already there that it would make sense to wait, but thirty minutes? You don’t book the earliest appointment just to be late, that’s inconsiderate and disrespectful to EVERYONE’s time. If you need two people to make a decision, and only one person is there on time, then I do believe that the staff should have voided their appointment after the 15 minute mark, because you’re late. It doesn’t matter if someone is there. It’s not fair for the people waiting and it’s not fair for the staff to wait on someone who booked the first adoption appointment of the day. The staff was super lovely though and I did still manage to adopt a kitten at the end of the day which I’m super happy with. I just thought there should be a protocol for when one member of a party is late for adoption appointments.

This place is AMAZING! It's the best shelter I've ever seen. Everyone I've interacted with here is extremely kind and welcoming. The animals are well-taken care of. I have also fostered and TNR'ed cats here, and the staff are always super helpful and quick to respond. When I adopt a cat, I will also come here.

If you adopt from them, be sure to ask many questions about the animal you're adopting and its health history and I would advise against adopting a cat that hasn't been in the care of the shelter for more than a few days. Pasadena Humane allowed me to adopt a sick kitten without being upfront with me about his condition, taking the adoption fee from me, lied to me about the kittens they keep in close contact having a communicable disease spreading in their kennels, and again allowed me to adopt a kitten who I did not know would be ill the very same day I adopted. And of course they won't help me with medical care for symptoms my cat contracted from their facility.

They didn’t have too many pets available which is great because a lot of furry friends must be finding happy homes but I was looking to find something when I visited. We couldn’t go into the cat area they said because of the pandemic but when I adopted my first cat I was able to go into the rooms and interact with them. No worries I’ll just head to one of the many adoption events they have every month!

This place is very strict about thier animals when you go to adopt you will be hounded with crazy questions such as, show me how you correct a puppy from biting you from through the bars of a cage???, how do you pick up poop and potty train?, show me with the dog (while the ddDog cage door is locked). Can you show me how you make the dog sit and kneel? Show me with the dog (while the dog cage is locked) We wanted to adopt a puppy and we so have many years of experience with dogs in general and in training. We felt very offended and we kept being followed and the service lady's kept trying to push us out the door when it wasn't even time for closing and thier where other people looking for pet's as well. We felt racially profiled. Your organization needs better customer service and you really need to treat people all the same as far as services and respecting your customers with being polite and not by being rude.So no I will not be recommending this place to nobody I know just for the poor treatment and services my family recived at your organization. Your company's HR should know about this or ceo because your treatment is very unprofessional and customer service. You should really be mindful and watch your workers in how they treat certain nationalities that enter your facility.

We love Pasadena humane ! Great staff always so friendly and helpful I always see them walking the dogs and it feels clean here and seems like they take care of their animals well , we have used them for our cats vaccines and neuters also we’ve had to donate hamsters that they found homes for quickly and made things easier on my heartbroken boys

Pasadena Humane has a Pet Pantry for low income families who can't afford to pay for pet food and supplies. It's a great program and we are greatful it's there

I wouldn’t recommend this place to shelter a rat out of the sewer. The most unprofessional set of employees I’ve ever experienced. The lack of empathy and professionalism shown by these employees seems almost like spoof. Completely unreal. Based on the treatment I received as a human, it’s hard to believe these people are put in charge to properly care for animals. SMH!

Today we adopted our second cat from the shelter . Staff is very interactive with animals as well as new pet parents . I would recommend Pasadena shelter to anyone looking for a new pet. We found the perfect friend for our tuxedo guy . He and the new guy hit it off instantly and our playing ! We now have “Watson and Holmes “

Cool, clean place to get your next Animal Friend. My cat chose me here. In a separate small room, Ute brought out the kitten for me to hold and see if we were compatible. We have now been together 9 years.$70 gets you release of your animal friend & 14 days insurance for veterinary care & medicine.Po'tsu is the perfect gentleman cat who doesn't tear up furniture or knock things off shelves, not to mention understands that kitchen counters are for food.To further support Pasadena Humane, I buy all cat supplies at their in house store which has all you need for kitties and dogs.

Spoke with someone named Destiny who is refusing to accept two husky’s that have been unhoused/no known owners for over a month due to them being in a different city, although they are currently under my care and I’m a resident of Pasadena. She refuses to accept these two poor husky’s and shame on her, these two dogs are not “lost” but have been abandoned are in desperate need of care and shelter and I can’t house them for long unfortunately

I couldn't get appointment with them because October, November and December 2023 is filled. I want adopt a kitten. I am deaf and I have friend to called for me. Unfair and unreasonable how I am being to as human being. Everything changed and it not same like the old day. The client didn't say what months to make appointment. It kinda of silly long waiting lists to make appointment. I am disappointed and hurtful.

These people here actually care about all the dogs! I adopted a chihuahua mix who was already named "LoLa" . . . ! She is the smartest dog I've ever had & I'm already extremely attached to her. I like how they put a v-chip in her with all mine & my bf's contact info! She walks without a leash & is potty trained. She picks up on words fast & relates them to its action QUICK... SHE IS EVERYTHING IVE EVER WANTED IN A DOG. Perfect size also...shes a little more than a handful, very lightweight. She is extremely obedient & well mannered & a very confident, happy lil thing! I ADORE HER! I LOVE PASADENA HUMANE SOCIETYS & THEIR FREE PET ADOPTION DAY! 5 STARS COMING FROM ME...☆☆☆☆☆🖒🙂💕pictures w/my post are personal ones all of them including my doggy LOLA & then there are ones of her in the cage at the humane society! I included a few pics of this beagle mix i wanted to adopt in the cage but didnt bec i was the 3rd one on the waiting list! The lil fella was already taken...good for him, he didnt belong in solitary confinement either!

I don't understand this agency service, there is a very easy way to solve, but I have to call the agency back to ask for the vaccine paper things and you have to call the correct following numbers in the call. I went to another dog shelter before near Dodge stadium. And they effectively gave me the chip receipt paper just after we got the chip, they just printed out the content and the receipt together to hand to me. And the doctor has a marvelous attitude to talks with me a little bit to answer my questions.I don't like this Pasadena Humane agency service! When we went there, the waiting list cooperator crew person emphasized my dog hasn't sprayed yet and he said this for over 3-4 times. I went there just simply for my dog's rabbies vaccine, I don't need his persuasion. His words sounds like if my dog doesn’t get spayed, they might cancel the vaccine appointment. The voice tone is kind of aggressive uncomfortable. And the vaccine time is So tight, not like other shelters. The first time I was late for half hour then I have to made another appointment because they have to use the room for kid’s class. Then don’t allow you come to arrive at a flexible time and in the email, they just said I need to come close my appointment time, but they haven’t announced they would wait you maybe 10 minutes then cancel or anything in the email. So I walked over half hour and got the empty for the first appointment.Wow, I thought Pasadena is a great city, but I prefer Los Angeles city’s dog shelters.Even I am close by however I will never come here again.

This is the biggest human society I've ever been to! It's got everything and every department you could possibly need for having a pet, adopting pets, and even for volunteering to work with animals. Great, friendly staff as well. I love volunteering here on my free time.

If it wasn't for PHS, I would not have met my best friend and road-trip buddy.I adopted Iggy in 2012 and since then, Iggy has been the highlight of my days! If you are planning to adopt a pet, PLEASE take the adoption seriously! Having a pet is a big responsibility. Any pet you decide to adopt deserves the best treatment. If you know you won't be capable of providing the best for the pet you have may adopt, then let someone else do so. Thank you PUS for all the work you do. Here are some pics of Iggy. Iggy has a best friend kitty cat, by the way.

Our family recently went to the Humane center and it was a disaster. A ton of volunteers that never had an answer to any questions. One sent me to the adoption office upstairs. No one was upstairs. All the volunteers do is tell folks to keep hands out of the kennels. The wait to meet an adoption person was long and the QR code didn't work. We asked if we can go in the critters room, no. We asked about a meet and greet, no. We were told we needed to sign the adoption papers in order to meet a dog. We left highly disappointed and left behind a dog that's been there since July, that we were interested in adopting.I hope they do some training with the volunteers or at least post rules for potential adopters and especially for volunteers to refer to.Update:Kevin, owner, gave me a call and we discussed my concerns. It's great to have him take the time to listen and hopefully the issues are addressed with staff/volunteer training. We will be returning to the Humane Society this weekend in hopes of adopting.
