My mom, sister and I decided to eat a early dinner at the National. Our server kayla was outstanding and a delight to be around. i had the spinach salad with chicken and my mom and sis shared the scallops and riscotto. Everything from the wine to the meals was perfect and we were so glad we came in! The service topped it all off and we will be asking for kayla again soon!

National Hotel and Restaurant is located in beautiful friendly Jamestown, CA.Absolutely beautiful hotel rooms, supposedly possibly haunted.Bartender very friendly and informative about the history of this historical hotel. The day I was there, many car clubs were driving, though, and had stopped to wonder the quaint shops.Every time I've visited, the weather has been almost perfect. This town and hotel are definitely worth a day trip.

Stopped in for drinks and appetizers, wish we hadn't. The food and drinks were adequate, although small portions. The service unfortunately was terrible. The order was never correct, despite correcting the staff numerous times. The dinning room was freezing, we asked the staff if they could close an open door that was causing a cold draft and they refused despite us being the only ones in the dining room.Unfriendly, small portions, staff not interested in customer service, skip if you can.

We got here at 3:00 pm on a Sunday and the only food we could order was hamburgers and Salads, or modified versions of the sandwiches, the dinner wasn’t available at all…until 4pm.The panini press was put away at 2?!?!? Why???Nothing deep fried????The fryer was broken…??Such a disappointment. If we didn’t order alcoholic drinks, we would have left.We specifically came here because we loved this place so much… but what a disappointment now.Our food was SO INCREDIBLY SALTY. We ordered the crab cakes and they were inedible!!!! My burger was so salty!!! Inedible!!! I didn’t even finish it.There were also flies flying around our table the whole time. The kitchen staff was also throwing food at each other while we were waiting for them to cook our food. The server, Mariah, was great and understanding. She’s a ten/ten.We will have to think twice about coming back.

This historic hotel was everything I expected it to be. I came to experience some historical sites and The National Hotel stays true to its Gold rush era/Pioneer past.Rooms: The rooms are quaint. Wonderful vintage style of the 1850s gold rush era from the carpet to the wallpaper. Rooms all have bathrooms with shower. Beds are comfy and cozy with a teddy bear waiting to be hugged!!Nearby activities: There are plenty of antique and specialty shops along Main Street. I suggest bar hopping. You are close enough to a roadhouse across the street called The Rawhide which occasionally has live music on their stage.Walkability: The little town of Jamestown is walkable in five minutes. Everything is considered under the definition of walkability. 🤠Food & drinks: The National Hotel has a wonderful restaurant on the first floor with a beautiful front window to sit by. The salmon dinner was fabulous! The ambience and decor were very pleasant with lighting and flowers. Very romantic getaway for valentines day weekend!Noteworthy details: The staff were kind and knowledgeable. Our hostess for the evening "Rhonda"even gave me a brief history on the hotel and surrounding area as we walk to our room. Coffee and tea were available to us in the hallway which we enjoyed on the balcony looking over main street.

The food was really mediocre salad awful and the prime rib was not how I ordered it I ordered it rare and it came out med well….it was also dry….the waitress was not very good, she was very friendly, but we had to keep reminding her of the stuff we ordered the wine she didn’t bring the cheesecake she didn’t bring then she said the cheesecake was on the house…..NOPE. We were charged for it. The prices are are way too expensive for the quality of food and then you have to pay for bread……really.. we will never go back.

Would definitely eat here again. The patio dining was nice and they brought us a bowl of water for our dog. Salad wasn't very impressive but the rest more than made up for it- pasta was delicious, and the main attraction was the flambeed dessert we ordered. They prepared it right there in front of us, which was a lovely bit of post-lunch entertainment!

We stayed at National hotel for 1 night after visiting Columbia State Historic Park. The hotel is one of the oldest hotel in California. The building is beautiful both outside and inside. We stayed in room number 5 which is a queen room with private bathroom and shower. The room is decorated nicely. There were journals for guests to write things down and we had fun reading what hotel guests wrote, it went from 1992-2022! The staff said some rooms had journals from 1970! All the staff were nice, especially, Rhonda, the bartender. We didn’t experience “Flo”, the friendly ghost but the hotel did give us the feeling like we were in the past. We had dinner at the hotel. The food could have more flavor but we loved the vibe, the wine and all the staff. Jamestown was very cute little town, too. We had fun in all antique stores and took a train at Railtown, State Historic Park.

Excellent hotel and restaurant. We came in a bit late, and while the restaurant was already closing down, they were still happy to open back up and prepare us a meal, which was delicious - highly recommend the tortellini. Staff was very friendly. Altough a bit dated (which is to be expected since it’s an 1850’s styled hotel), the rooms are clean and comfortable. The resident ghost did not bother us. No complaints - only nitpick is the global airconditioning which turns on and off. Did not bother me, but it woke my wife a couple of times.

We were driving through Jamestown recently and were lucky enough to find the National Hotel! It was an overall great experience. Cold beer, delicious food and friendly staff that made us feel at home. Would recommend to all! From the two kiwis.

Had dinner here, did not stay in the hotel. The restaurant is very nice, white linen tablecloth, beautiful furnishings and a wonderful ambiance. The service was very friendly and very good. The food, I had steak, baked potato and veggies. The steak was excellent, cooked to my preference. The potato and veggies were very good and you had all the fixings for the spud. Really enjoyed my meal and the atmosphere here.

Sweet wonderful comfortable restaurant. The owner went to each table insuring his patrons were happy. Nice quiet ambiance.I like white linen and crystal!Great waitress. Marvelous food. I'm lactose intolerant so I wanted the grilled seafood special, special! Oil not butter. No problem! The steak was very tender tasty and RARE exactly as ordered.Table side flambe desserts looked wonderful though we skipped them.

The National Hotel is a California landmark. When you stay here you're staying in one of the 10 oldest buildings you can stay in California. It is a magical place. The only way to truly experience it is through the employees, who know many anecdotes on the history of the place. Have a wonderful dinner prepared by Chef Robin and finish with an extraordinary flambe dessert. Then pull up to one of the coolest bars on the West Coast and have Rhonda make you an extraordinary cocktail. It will knock your socks off. Mary, Heather, Candy, Ashley, Cindy and a few others whose names I am forgetting provide the magic that really make this place. Come visit, let them take you back to a kinder simpler time. Sit on the balcony, listen to the quite. It is the perfect bolt-hole when you need a moment away from the world.

In order from best to worst - the service was great. The food was pretty good but overpriced. My Caesar salad was $13 plus $9 for a salmon topper. It was assembled and tossed fresh at the table which was neat, but it was just an average salad. It did come with a small cup of broccoli cheese soup which was very good. $40 for the steak dinner my husband had was outrageous in my opinion, and the price did not include a cup of soup or side salad which seemed odd. It did come with a massive baked potato. My daughter had the blackened french dip sandwich which had just the right amount of spice. The fries were a peculiar color and tasted a bit stale however.Whatever you do, do NOT go on a Saturday night without a reservation. We didn't have one and although they seated us, the owner made it a point to chastise us loudly at our table in front of other diners, which was quite embarrassing and unnecessary. It kind of spoiled our overall dining experience and it's unlikely that we will return.

We've eaten here many, many times for 20 years and especially on my Birthday. This is the first time we've ever had a bad experience. Our waitress was wonderful! We'll try again next year.

Had brunch. Good food. Slow service.Update: Thank you for your reply. This appears to be a canned reply since I see it on other reviews. We were seated but it took a long time to get our menu and order taken. Our food came in a reasonable amount of time given that there were very few guests in the dining room. When I asked for water, the waitress forgot to bring it. When we finished eating, the waitress cleared our plates but did not take our bill and credit card. It took so long for her to return that we left a cash payment on the table and left. I appreciate the historic significance of your hotel and would like to see the restaurant service improve before I would return.

Wife, son, dog, and I had a nice stay during a 24 hour trip to the snow. It's an old hotel so the charm that comes with that is not for everyone, but I enjoyed it. Very friendly staff. Accommodated our large dog. As for the haunting situation.....why did the "ghost" have to dump my 5 year old son's sweatshirt over the balcony onto the sidewalk. Good thing we found it. Overall, nice stay. Thank you.

Me and my wife stayed here over the weekend for my birthday. What an amazing place. The staff and even the owner were very friendly, polite and welcoming. This is not like your average modern hotel. This has the feel of the old days way back when gold mining existed. The rooms are a little bit smaller but the experience, the decor, and the customer service made it feel just so special. Everything was clean, and working order and there was a ceiling fan when it gets too hot. The bathroom was small but again the way that the hotel was built and the way they maintained it it just added to the authenticity of the place. There is so much history here and it's right in the middle of their downtown area. There's lots of shops, there's a a store next door that you can buy food and other things and a post office, 5 minute walk away. We got lucky as there was an open market on Saturday and the street was filled with vendors. The only downside was there is no designated parking for hotel guests and we had to use the lot next door which also is used for the general public. There's no metered parking so that opens up many options for parking besides the lot next door. Overall, it's a five-star hotel with its own charm and history. This is an experience that everyone has to have if you love history, it's even supposedly haunted and it has a lot of original vintage decor. Just want to say thank you to the staff and owner at the National Hotel for a lovely experience and stay.

They were very accommodating. We actually arrived early and they seated us early on New Year's Eve. Had a great meal and my wife had the desert that they lit on fire. It was very exciting and the place did not burn down. All the staff and the owners were wonderful and made us feel almost like we were at home. Except better food than we have at home much better food. My wife enjoyed it so much not having to cook for our anniversary

I don’t know who the chef was tonight but for $20 we got a spinach pasta that had artichokes and mushrooms and sun-dried tomatoes out of a can. No bread no side salad $20. Are you people out of your minds. Hostess greeted us without saying a word we had a stair off not sure what that was maybe a bad day at work. Will not be back.
