Went to the sandwich section. Ordered a turkey club. They literally only placed two thin slices of turkey on the sandwich. Never seen a sandwich shop or store sandwich shop place so little meat on a sandwich. I apologized and said I would need to cancel that order after they started to prepare. The person preparing stated they were embarrassed too and offered to place a couple of more slices of turkey. I thought that was very kind and continued with my order. However, it was still less than half as much as any other chain sandwich shop.Just another reason not to shop at the Covell Safeway. Still didn’t have several items that are usually in stock.I wonder when, if ever, Safeway leadership will change local management. The entire team is much less friendly and we have shopped there for over 20 years. The East Davis Safeway is much better.

When you dont need bags at the self checkout, a alarm rings and a cashier checks, if you really have no bags. Even with these inflated prices they make sure they dont loose a penny for bags. Therefore they suspect every customer of stealing bags. This is wrong on so many levels. Greedy management!

The manager of this Safeway needs to pick it up. Their freezer doors have been broken for months now and they are not fixing it. This causes many of their items to have freezer burn and ruins their products. What a waste! My friend even showed me a picture of a moldy frozen burrito they had here. The freezer had defrosted, burrito molded, and refroze the moldy burrito. Everything but their freezer aisle is fine. Small chip selection though.

Be careful, water dispensers are most of the time out of service and that water is not filtered water or clean water. Yesterday 2 of the 4 water dispensers were out of service and the ones that had the “out of service” sign, were the ones that were working suddenly and the ones that suppose to be working stopped working suddenly too🤔 not to mention the cashier with glasses talks a lot and does a little, holds the line for being just talking to customers that they want to pay and leave. Rachel is her name. And only one cashier open today 2/27/23 And look today how long is the line to pay. What a miserable service.🤢🤮

Great Safeway, it feels a little smaller / compact than the other one in town.The deli unfortunately doesn’t have any hot food at 8:30am (cowell one has a pretty good selection of food at this time) in this one and I would also say the florist doesn’t quite have the selection of houseplants as the other Safeway in town.I do appreciate that the self check outs open pretty early here, I’ve never encountered them not open in the mornings. What I don’t like is they are painfully loud to use, definitely unnecessary to be that loud.It has basically everything you need.On a Covid note.Again like the other Safeway in town I’m unsure why they stopped their one way up and down systems so early in the pandemic, it’s not as bad now with case numbers down and vaccinations up. But these stores were awful to navigate over the holidays when cases were high and nothing was being done to manage the numbers / path of the customers in stores. But why get rid of a good precaution at all? If you’re nervous/ vulnerable / still taking a lot of Covid precautions I suggest shopping here at off peak hours or at one of the stores still offering dedicated hours. I also have not noted surfaces (other than carts) being disinfected between customers, although I believe this kind of transmission has largely been debunked, it should be noted their google business page says they do this but I have not noted staff doing it at check outs.

Aisles are too narrow, they are constantly out of many products, the meat department smells spoiled, the produce department is full of wilted or unripe or overripe products, and the customer service is poor. The parking lot is also awful. Go to either trader joes or either nugget location for a better experience in every way imaginable.

Davis Safeway by Sutter Hospital is by far my favorite always has fresh sushi and great selection of produce and staff is always friendly sure miss seeing Cristina at the sushi station though she was such a nice addition to the store and i always enjoyed talking to her while I picked up my favorite Sushi can't say the Sushi is as good as hers continues to be the best store to go to in Davis

Always clean and well-stocked. Would have been five stars from me but this location has some serious work to do training their self-checkout employees. These staff members consistently overstep customer boundaries and provide unnecessary, unwanted “help.”For example, at my visit today, I reached down for a second to look in my wallet for the proper debit card and an employee came over and hit the “pay” button on my screen without asking me or even greeting me first. I was not incapable of doing this myself and I was not holding up any lines. Even if there were a wait, I found this to be completely rude. The employee acted as if I was incompetent or a burden and didn’t even think to ask explicitly if I needed assistance completing my purchase.This type of disrespect for autonomy and physical boundaries has happened to me before with a different associate at the self-checkout, as well as to my partner who often shops here with me. Things like touching the screen, touching my groceries, and telling me what to do when they were not asked. Highly infuriating.

Lately their produce has been gross. I bought one bunch of celery there about a week ago not paying attention when handling it in the store. When I got home and went to use it in a smoothie I realized it was not fresh at all. It was soft as if it had been in my fridge for a week or more.Today I went shopping again and noticed all the celery was soft. I also noticed that most of their cucumbers were also soft and almost ready to go bad. Same with the zucchini and summer squash.

This is a clean, well lighted and well organized establishment. Prices are average. Produces for the most part seems of high quality. Good selection of meats. Their fish section is not as good as other places, though. Overall, good grocery store.

For some reason they don't stock fresh garlic. Twice i have gone there and ended up having to shop elsewhere.Otherwise, my favorite place to go grocery shopping. Nice selection of goods.

My partner and I noticed that we're more likely to find surprising deals at this Safeway than the other. Now that we're closer to it and it has self checkout, I think we'll be here more often! The other one here is more spacious, but this one has only improved over the years!

If you're like me, and don't like grocery shopping this is a fantastic store. Well organized, Manager is kind but professional. Store is clean and the employees are courteous but don't hound you. I shop here on a weekly basis and I suffer from social anxiety. Getting in and out of places is difficult. I like coming here. It feels safe. 🤣🤣🤣

My family and I shop here regularly as we live across the street. They have a decent variety of groceries, including a decent organic produce section considering the size of the store. That being said, the store is one of the oldest in the valley and has the dingy look you'd expect because of that. The staff are a mixed bunch, though mostly in the overworked, underpaid, have a grumpy attitude way. They have recently been doing some renovations/upgrades and now have some self-checkout stands, and new signage. So 3 stars because it's a fairly neutral store, not amazing, and not horrid

Friendly staff, easy parking and a wide selection of products makes this my main place to shop. A Starbucks inside, and Peet's with outdoor seating in the same parking lot add convenience. They have a florist on site, so picking up a bottle and wine and flowers before going to someone's home is quick.

I would like to know why Safeway has a problem with women and feels the need to shame them. Every time I go to Safeway recently they have women’s vaginal yeast cream behind a locked case. I have to click a button, wait 5 minutes, and then have a Safeway employee not even open the door for me but instead ask me what I need. Since when is a woman supposed to have to tell their cashier about their vaginal yeast infections to get their needed medication? Am I supposed to believe that Safeway is seeing these $15 yeast creams stolen in such high numbers that they had no choice but to put it under lock and key? This is disgusting and will make me shop elsewhere from now on.

Nice grocery store, helpful staff but can be pushy. This morning a guy in the fruits and veggies department asked me if I needed help TWICE: first time okay that’s nice. Second time (2 min later) I pretended I didn’t hear him calling me from literally the other end of the aisle, he yelled three four times before I looked at him, telling him AGAIN I was fine. If I come on an early Saturday morning and avoid the weekend rush, I‘d like not to be harassed over how fast I pick brocolis.

Two stars because I love Safeway. But the experience wasn't the greatest. Unsafe during a pandemic. Butcher wasn't wearing a mask, masks were not enforced for customers, and cashier did nothing to properly enforce 6 feet for our safety while we bagged. Also had to ask him multiple times to push our items all the way down so we could bag as he rang two other customers through. Just not very respectful during these times.

I purchased orange cranberry muffins a few days ago and today they no longer carry them. I was disappointed as they were really good. They advertise buy one get one free on muffins but they only had a few left.The rest of my shopping went well. Clerks were polite and very helpful.I

They have more extensive Asian food items then some Safeways. And they've started selling natural beauty products, which is nice. My biggest problem with this Safeway is there are always long lines. Sometimes you'll wait 15+ minutes to checkout. Plus, some of the cashiers aren't very nice, and just spend the entire time complaining with a coworker.

Overall a good store and staff. Several of the worst shopping experiences of my life. I have spoken with management and they do not care how long the lines are. Unless you want to stand in line for the length of time you spent shopping, go anywhere else but here. The staff copes the best they can. Large dairy and frozen food selection.
