This is the best, authentic, slice of Route 66 Americana I have experienced in ages!Superior hot dogs ( and chili dogs) cooked outside on a grill, and eaten on shaded picnic tables. The folks who run the place are super nice and welcoming.Roy's Cafe is well worth the stop.Looking forward to the hotel being opened in a couple of years. The view is wonderful!

I found this gem 💎 on my way to Golden Valley, AZ. I found it so unique and cool. I had to walk around the whole area. I had to take the pictures of everything and the a picture of the highway 66. Saw the hotel stop to go get a snack. Walked around everywhere it was it was a perfect day. The weather was perfect, and there were so many other people here to enjoy this location of route 66.

This is a really cool place in the middle of the desert. They make some fantastic chili dogs, the store itself has a lot of cool stuff, and they pump your gas for you. The people who run this place are very nice and always enjoy the visitors. I stopped here on the way to San Diego from Las Vegas and it was the perfect place to stop and eat.

Great stop. It was interesting to see a bit of history being preserved. There are meals available as well as snacks for sale along with memorabilia. A couple of roadside attractions across the road too.

Roy's Motel And CafeRoute 66 Amboy, CaliforniaRoy's Motel and Cafe is one of our favorite stops. We usually stop to rest, take a few photos, buy some souvenirs, and buy some Route Beer to quench our thirst. They have some awesome staff members here, and they always make you feel welcomed. It's easy to have a conversation with them, and they are just so easygoing. From the manager Kenneth ( He doesn't realize it, but we actually met once before, lol) and Nicole, who has such a great personality, and the other staff members, it's always makes for a fun stop. They also offer some great souvenirs as well as some great sodas and beverages. The one thing we always buy is the Mini Pecan pies, which is from Juan Pollo. They are so deliciousOverall, we would recommend stopping in and taking a look around and having a fun conversation.Thank you, Roy's Motel and Cafe, for making our visits fun.

My husband and I drove through here many times while he was stationed in 29 Palms. We would take this "shortcut" to Vegas. Many times I taunted him with the idea of exploring the abandoned elementary school. He turned me down time and time again. One night back from Vegas, I, passed out likely hungover my husband abruptly pulled his car under the overpass hidden from incoming and outgoing traffic.. The pictures will tell the rest.

Stopped by for a photo or 2 on my Route 66 trip. Appears that the gas station portion is open? A very cool and iconic Route 66 stop, a must-see for anyone on this journey. I was there at a weird time, as it wasn't quite dark enough for them to turn on the neon sign, but still needed headlights for driving. Twilight, if you will. The Amboy post office is across the street, appears to be operational, but would have been closed when I arrived. I believe they are restoring the motel rooms, and you can go check out some of them to see how the rooms are laid out.

Such a rad place! I've always wanted to stop. But for some reason have always detoured north through Vegas on the way from Tulsa to Los Angeles!! After receiving a print of the Roy's sign from @sradonfilm I had to make sure I stopped. Grabbed candy. Drinks. And a rad conversation with the crew! Don't miss this stop!

I have gone by this location for decades and never stopped until this trip. They had people arriving by small planes. They were also serving hotdogs for $6. There are restrooms (portable) outside and a convenience store inside. The road from this location heading to Las Vegas is being repaired due to a washout.

Our friend and I did our first Route 66 trip and made a stop at Roy's. Boy, was this place great to see on the route! Heather was working the shop that day and she was absolutely amazing! Super friendly and extremely helpful! It made our experience and the last leg of our trip super memorable. We hope to stop by again on our next trip for the Route 66 100 years anniversary!

Awesome to show up to a neon beacon in the middle of the pitch black desert. Exactly the Twilight Zone vibe I was hoping for. Thought I was the only one there for the first 10 minutes and then turned out there was a store worker around and the shop wasn't closed yet! Super friendly and very chatty.

Roy's Motel and Cafe is a beloved Route 66 landmark that has been closed since 2005. The motel and cafe were once a thriving stop for travelers along the Mother Road, but the construction of Interstate 40 led to a decline in business.Despite its closure, Roy's remains a popular destination for Route 66 enthusiasts. The motel and cafe are in a state of disrepair, but they still exude a charm that is hard to resist. Visitors can take photos of the iconic neon sign, wander around the vacant buildings, and imagine what it was like when Roy's was bustling with life. The future of Roy's is uncertain. There have been efforts to restore the property, but it is unclear if they will be successful. In the meantime, Roy's stands as a reminder of a bygone era, a time when Route 66 was the main highway connecting the eastern and western United States.Pros:Historic Route 66 landmarkUnique atmosphereOpportunity to see a piece of Route 66 historyCons:Closed and in disrepairLimited amenitiesOverall:Roy's Motel and Cafe is a must-see for any Route 66 enthusiast. The motel and cafe may be closed, but they are still a significant part of Route 66 history. Visitors can take photos, wander around the property, and imagine what it was like when Roy's was a thriving business.Don’t forget to stop by the golden Buddha down the road!

I love stopping through on my weekly commute from Vegas to 29 Palms.I collect the memorabilia and clothing they sell. Share a little jerky with the dog and enjoy the conversation.I even have their stickers up at my Tattoo Parlor in 29 Palms. Blue Lotus Tattoo.Stop and buy a lock and etch your loves name and put it on the gate. Or get a Route 66 stamp book and stamp(old school)Or take a pic with the 10ft golden Buddha. My favorite stop on my route. 66❤️

Have wanted to come here for years, and I finally made it! Nicole is very nice, and great to talk to. Gas, snacks, craft sodas, souvenirs, and plenty of nostalgia. You can't stay in the cottages any longer, but you can peruse them and the office. Arrive at the right time, and you just may be asked to flip on the switches for the Neon sign. A wonderful place to stop!

Great stop for a Road Trip! Cool place for souvenirs and photos, and a throwback to yesteryear. The hotel and everything around it has been very well preserved and is reminiscent of the film “The Hills Have Eyes.” A must visit on the way out to Laughlin or Vegas!

First time visiting. Went with a group of friends on a Friday around 9am. Pretty cool location to stop for gas because the pumps are all antiques & you have to manually key the pump for it to work like they did in the days of old. Our cashier was very nice & shared some history about this Route 66 with us. Did you know routes 66 goes as far west as San Francisco and as far SouthEast as Chicago? Now you do lol.Wish they had food, coffee when we went. Nevertheless pretty cool spot to stop for photo ops.

This was a very interesting experience. I don’t believe the gas pumps really have fuel in them but it’s a neat stop on the way to the Amboy crater and Joshua tree national park where you can get refreshments and some really neat souvenirs.
