If you ever get the chance, DO THIS!! I'm so glad we paid the money and went! The views were beautiful because the weather was so clear that day. There's a tour guide narrating your journey. You can go outside to see things from a different perspective. There are two tunnels the train goes through. They'll provide bottled water. There are bathrooms. I have no complaints about this excursion. I loved it.

This was an awesome excursion! The scenery is beautiful, the staff was friendly and knowledgeable. We learned a lot about the area and the gold rush. Definitely sit on the left side of the car if leaving from Skagway. Stop in the train store after, or before for all your train needs. If you like old trains, history, and beautiful scenery, this trip is a definite yes!

The White Pass Railway Tour was absolutely outstanding! From start to finish, it was an adventure filled with breathtaking scenery and historical insights. The journey through the rugged Alaskan wilderness was like stepping into a postcard, with towering mountains, lush forests, and pristine lakes all around. The guides on the train were not only informative but also incredibly engaging, sharing fascinating stories about the construction of the railway and the Gold Rush era. I felt like I was transported back in time, experiencing a piece of history. The train itself was comfortable, and the large windows allowed for uninterrupted views of the awe-inspiring landscape. The route, with its twists, turns, and dramatic changes in elevation, kept me captivated throughout the journey.I couldn't get enough of the stunning waterfalls, the mesmerizing Summit Lake, and the majestic trestle bridges. And when we reached the White Pass Summit, the feeling of accomplishment and the panoramic views were simply unforgettable. This tour is a must-do for anyone visiting the region. It's an extraordinary way to connect with the natural beauty and history of Alaska. The White Pass Railway Tour exceeded my expectations in every way and left me with memories that will last a lifetime.

Beautiful ride up the mountain for a little piece of history. I would definitely plan this ride if you make this trip, it's well worth it. The views are amazing. My only suggestion would be to bring some kind of seat cushion with you because the seats are horrible and uncomfortable. Enjoy the train ride!

This train ride is the best train ride i will probably ever take! It is so comfortable and relaxing that you want to doze off at times. What wakes you up are the breathtaking sights and the freshest air you could ever inhale. I loved my time in Alaska and I loved this train ride!

I had a fantastic experience at the White Pass Train Railway Station! Not only is it famous, but it also offers a wonderful array of amenities. The souvenirs store, with its partial sale, was a treat to explore, offering a variety of unique items to remember the journey by. The café provided a cozy atmosphere to relax and enjoy a delicious meal while taking in the stunning views. The convenience of the ticket counter made the entire process seamless. This station truly enhances the already breathtaking White Pass Train journey and is a must-visit for anyone looking to make their trip unforgettable.

This is a must do if you’re in the area. The train ride is very scenic and beautiful with plenty of opportunities for pictures. It is staffed with park rangers who are very knowledgeable of the area and who can answer any questions that you may have. The train cars are warm and weatherproof so if you are in inclement weather, this would not be an issue. That being said if it is very foggy out, it would be a waste of time, because so much of what makes us a great trip is the scenery which you would miss if you were fogged in. Lots of opportunities to see wildlife, especially eagles.

Absolutely beautiful. We did a cruise ship excursion through Alaska 360 and this was one component of the tour. Some other options are longer and stop in Canada, which requires your passport, so make sure you know if you need it! Neat trip. Loved it.

What an amazing train ride. The history that was told along the ride was captivating. The train had about 100 people but there was plenty of window space to get your own window views. We traveled 18 miles up the mountainside. I would have loved the Yukon Route but I believe that ride was about 110 miles. (Not sure we would have had the time)

Absolutely amazing. It's no wonder this is one of the "Scenic railways of the world"Great narration, comfortable, incredible views. Take a car as far back as possible so you can enjoy the outside of the train snake around the curves and through tunnels. A must do if in the area

When booking this excursion as a cruise ship passenger, absolutely book through the white pass website and NOT through the cruise line. First, booking through their website will save you a bit of money. Second, those who book through their website are in separate cars than those who booked with the cruise line. Once you are in the cars, you cannot move to another car. Therefore we saw the train cars that came from the cruise ship docks and they were full to the brim. Our car had 2 other parties in it so we basically had the car to ourselves and were able to move around to the different sides to see the views. I will say that when you book through the cruise line you get to board your train right at the dock. Since we booked independently, we did have to walk into town to check in at the actual train depot. The walk was about 10-15 minutes but it wasn’t bad at all. In the train depot they have a coffee shop, a gift shop, and restrooms. The woman who checked us in at the ticket counter was very friendly and explained everything clearly. We boarded 15 minutes before the scheduled departure time so be sure to get there early. The best views are on the left side going up and on the right side going down. The seats do have the ability to switch direction if needed. We flipped them to have more room by our feet. Since our trip was just the summit and back down, we actually did a loop at the top so the train kept going the same direction, so there was no need to flip the seat direction. They have clear narration throughout the trip on history, landmarks, and stories. The narration only plays inside though and not on the outside balcony. Each car has a front and back outside balcony that you are able to stand on to get better views or some fresh air. Since our car had few people it was easy to pop out and pop back in to take photos of landmarks or the train coming in or out of the tunnel. I did bring a microfiber rag/towel with because previous reviews mentioned that if the weather gets bad the windows will fog up and you can’t see out. However our day was clear and slightly overcast so there was no need. The cars also each have a heater and a bathroom on them. You do get a booklet on your seat that shows you the map, as well as some more history too. Overall it is a very cool scenic train ride up and down the mountains. If you can, try and get the caboose car, then when you stand out the back there will be no other cars to obstruct your view. However since we booked independently, our choice of cars was towards the front. We chose the very first car behind the engine and it worked out because your field of vision was only blocked a tiny bit by the engine and you could turn back and watch the entire train follow you. At the end the narrators/tour guides come through the cars and basically that is the time to tip them if you so choose. Overall everyone in our party really enjoyed this excursion. You have to really be in to just looking out at the scenery and taking in the beauty. I would recommend this as the main thing to do in Skagway.

Beautifully and meticulously restored vintage train that takes you up the White Pass, right to the Canadian border and back again.Through the journey there is live commentary pointing out things, and giving some history information. The entire journey is so scenic and beautiful, and you get to pass trains heading in the opposite direction at various points. We are so glad we booked this as it was well worth the price just to experience a piece of Gold Rush history. We booked through the cruiseline so we boarded the train right next to our ship. They fill the train cars starting with the one’s closest to the ship - these cars get packed tight / full. Being one of the last to board meant we could choose a train car furthest from the ship which was only half full - this allowed us to move around more and switch from side to side when ever we wanted to, and the open platform was never crowded.Highly recommended!

Just incredible. We were so happy to go in early May while the mountains were still covered in snow. The gorgeous weather offered fantastic views and the train ride through the white pass was incredible. Definitely a memory I will hold dear for years to come.

Experienced the railway ride from Skagway to Bennett and the Yukon all on a glorious summer day. I would give this 6 stars if possible. The terrain covered by this railway cannot be matched. Mountains, lakes, glaciers, waterfalls, the best of our planet. The seating was very comfortable and the staff very friendly. Standing on the rear platform allowed me to capture some stunning photos and video. Easily the highlight of our 7 day Alaskan cruise. Make sure you take the full ride up to Carcross Yukon. Especially if you love trains.

Super unique experience in Skagway! Took this train on the way back after spending a day in Yukon and it was well worth it. The train itself is quite rustic in a good way and offers scenic views of the surrounding land. It was also narrated which was great in letting us know what to look for. They had complimentary water & washrooms on board as well as hat for purchase for $5 each.

Great train ride ascending to the White Pass at the Canadian border. The train route has impressive switchbacks and crosses a high trestle bridge and through a mountain tunnel. Nicely narrated tour guide points out the scenic highlights.

Highly recommend! Gorgeous scenery! Our family took this train you the top and the took Sock Eye Cycles back down the mountain. Absolutely perfect scenery and atmosphere on the train. So much snow that made many waterfalls! Fully recommend going in May.

This was a great train ride. We only went halfway up but it was very interesting and the history of the area was eye opening. Unfortunately we had low clouds on that day but the view was still impressive.

Do not miss! Unless you're an avid (and fast) hiker, you're not going to see views like you will on this train ride. It's going to soak up half your day at Skagway, so be prepared to do some brisk walking once you're back in town if you still have some shopping to do. Friendly staff, lots of information given while on board, and the seats weren't half bad :) Picturesque the whole ride up and back down, I recommend to all, especially if you have family members that want to enjoy the sights up aren't able to walk as much as the others.

We enjoyed our train ride. It felt plenty long, ample opportunity for photos and video. We even briefly crossed into Canada before looping back. I gave it five stars, but I do wish there was an option to wear a headset to listen to the guided tour. We had an unusually loud group of people in our particular train car, so we couldn't hear the majority of the information over the speakers that the guide was sharing. We enjoyed the scenery and appreciated that there was a restroom in each train car. They also offered complimentary bottled water. Overall, we loved our train ride.

One of the best railway experience that you can’t miss. We also saw a black bear by the railroad. Remember to take the left side and the back of each train for a better view and the guide would point out all the great scenic spots.

Absolutely the best. The railroad system is very well-maintained.The staff and railroad personnel are amazing. The scenery keeps you looking back and forth constantly. I definitely suggest taking this trip. And don't forget to purchase your cap for $10. You won't find anything as reasonable in town.

This one's a must do. It's hauntingly beautiful if you get the right day for it. Go out onto the platform outside the train cars for optimal views.

Fantastic experience, the scenery was amazing and the tour guide was great! You can stay inside the train car and listen to the guide or step out on the platform in-between cars for better photos and the majestic clanking of the train

We got incredibly lucky while on this excursion that we booked through our cruise line. Luckily, in the sense of the weather, we had beautiful sun for basically the entire trip, and the views were spectacular. The train company does a great job of giving a fantastic experience along with a guide that provides lots of interesting information and regular warnings for the chance at a great 📸 photo.Would 100% recommend to anyone visiting Skagway. ( hope for good weather for a great experience)

I had a wonderful time on this excursion. It's the type of activity that helps you truly value the efforts made to discover and develop our incredible nation. Don't pass up the chance to experience this while you're in Alaska.

This is just a breath taking experience from start to finish. The views are unlike little else that you will see and the experience of the narrow guage train makes it so unique. Soooo many photos!

This was a great day. Highly recommend taking bus up from Skagway all the way to Yukon territory.Along the way the bus will slow down/stop when you see 🐻/wildlife and also stop for lunch and other opportunities to see breathtaking views. Then come back down to Frazer to take the train back. Gives you different prospective of the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park and so much more!
